Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

Pep needs to think long and hard about how he wants this Bayern team to play. B-string players or not, this system looks ominously ineffective and shaky.
we are just passing between the back5 or hoof the ball to lewandowski. Its not even pointless possession anymore; its just bad. When ever we have the ball near their goal, they outnumber us 2:1

Piss poor all around by Bayern, it's painful to watch. I'll try not to overreact yet, still early days. Pep needs to think long and hard what he wants out of the team.

Dortmund absolutely outstanding, credit where it's due.

Dortmund are looking very good. If they can avoid injuries (which they suffered from a lot last year) they can challenge for either the league or CL this year, maybe both. Nobody will want to play them in the CL, that is for sure.

hold on there, this is still a glorified friendly against a weakened bayern side that has a bad matchplan

once the season kicks off it will be completely different

Shaqiri has been absolute dog shit. Hasn't seen any passes and just ran into corners.

Does this mean Liverpool are better than bayern?

I have seen enough of Dortmund over the last few years to know that when their best payers are fit they can beat anyone. I never make judgements based on a knee-jerk reaction. I remain firm when saying if they can keep their players fit the can challenge for either the league or CL, maybe both. There is not one team in Europe that would not fear playing Dortmund in the CL and they could beat any team in it when they are at their best (as long as their keep their players fit like I said).

How ironic that it's pep side that dishes out the hard fouls all game long.

I think it was not smart by Guardiola to implement a system change after a WC when most of his players went deep in the tournament.
2 or 3 weeks are simply not enough to change the system from a 4 to a 3 men defense.

Should have waited until next season when there is no big cup in the summer and he has all his players together for a real pre-season.

Reading through this thread, it seems like I got lucky that this stupid game started so early and couldn't watch it. Oh and ffs Martinez  . Can we have Kroos back? Our CM options at the moment are now Schweinsteiger, Thiago, Rode and all 3 had longterm injuries way too often in the last 2 years. At least our young talents will get plenty of minutes.

Immobile really wants a goal.

Agree with the guy above though, Dortmund have a very good team and decent depth but its just a question of staying clear of injuries. Of course they can compete for trophies and in a one off game they can beat anyone. Problem last season was the injuries which were ridiculous.

He already worked on it last year and played it successfully in the cup final against Dortmund at the end of last season. I'm not too worried about the change, it's more the system in general that could be questioned. And the biggest question right now: 'how important is Martinez as the central defender to make it work?'

Not going to lie, you've not missed anything of note. Piss poor performance by almost everybody. Javi getting injured early on does not help things either.

I expect them to have problems with very defensive/well organized opponents again, so unless Bayern really feck up they will probably win the league comfortably again this season.

It's true that their style can (and most likely will) cause problems for any side in the CL, but it would need a run of almost flawless games for them, because compared to the biggest clubs they still lack a lot in terms of individual quality.

the biggest problem with the 343 is, that our wide players are not doing their job. Hojbjerg is a great talent, but should play in the center. He is not the guy who is running along the line all game long. Bernart is very inefficient. He is losing the ball a lot and isnt defensively sound. Still I am not concerned about the defense; once our best players are back, we´ll be hard to beat, but I dont see any offensive plan. We just have to few player in the central offensive midfield.

Anyway. Dortmund played really well. Sharp, direct and with high intensity. Deserved win. Could have scored 1-2 more.

Also, defense and midfield are not linked properly and act completely predictable most of the time, while the offensive players are cut of from the rest. It reminds me of the football we started playing in February, when we entered our long slump. Nevermind 3 or 4 people in the back, there's something really wrong with the strategy and squad usage. I wasn't a big fan of the football we played last year, but I now feel anxious that it might get worse.

Dortmund on the other hand looked very solid, but not outstanding. Had the been at their best, I fully expect they would have scored more. Considering how short their time together was so far they seem to do very well. They'll start out strong this year.

Is this correct?

This game was really a carbon copy of Bayern 0-4 Real except Dortmund weren't as clinical. Bayern had all the possession but they were pressed out of the game so were forced to make sideways/backward passes and were lacking ideas going forward to cause Dortmund much of a trouble defensively, while they were poor defensively themselves

It'd also be unfair to call the football Bayern played today "tiki taka."

Alaba is waste in the back three.

With Martinez out for almost the whole season, I expect Bayern to sign one more player or trust Rode.

I dont think that it was like the match against Real. We almost started with a 424 against Real and the Kroos - Schweinsteiger midfield couldnot gain any stability or control. We had too many players up front (Robben, Manzu, Müller, Ribery) who were useless because they were cut off the ball or running against a very well organised, extremely deep sitting defense.

With the new formation (434/5311) we just dont commit anyone forward. The 3Cbs are staying back, the two wide players are isolated in no man's land somewhere in the middle of the park. The 3 CMs were getting pressed and could only play/run backwards while Lewa/Shaq (Müller) were alone infront. When they got a ball they had to play 2v5.
With "tiki taka" we always had control over the midfield but struggled sometimes to do anything decisive in the final 1/3. With this new system we dont have any control at all. We kept the ball around our box or lost it. Almost every team in the world can keep possession around their own box.

I know thats only a preseason friendly, so there is no reason to panic, but we will struggle against any good team with this formation. We have the perfect players for 433/451 so I hope Pep is just testing a plan B.

If anything it was closer to the Dortmund vs Bayern games under van Gaal: isolate the wings, cut off the center and then exploit the mistakes that come from the pressure or the risks that were taken to compensate for.

Quality Post.

Mhkitaryan(sp?) and Sokraits Pasthapopulos(sp?) looked really impressive today. Bayern fans shouldn't panic just yet. They still have players like Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Robben, Ribery etc yet to return and I am sure they will be better. Just not too convinced with the 3-4-3 formation.

Neuer

Lahm/Rafinha Dante Boateng Alaba

Schweinsteiger Martinez/Lahm

Robben Muller Ribery

Lewandowski
That is a formidable team. The only thing that Bayern need to worry about is age/injuries. Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Ribery, Dante and Robben are 30 or older. The likes of Martinez, Robben, Schweinsteiger, Ribery and Thiago are known for their misfortunes with injuries as well. Is there are a succession plan put in place with enough quality youth coming through from academy/transfers to replace the ageing players? The last thing they would want to become is like Milan of the late nougties. Btw who was the Gaudino kid out there? Looked really skinny and young. I know Hojlberg(sp?) is a promising prospect but never heard of Gaudino before. How good is he?

Hardly surprising, considering we played a midfield with Höjbjerg, Gaudino and Rode - the midfield is Bayerns heart and soul.

Gaudino and Scholl are prospects getting some play time in games that don't really matter. We won't see them in any BuLi game anytime soon unless a really bad streak of injuries happens. Ribery or Robben have another two, three top class seasons ahead of them, same for Schweinsteiger and Lahm, the latter probably more than that. I'm not worried a bit, even if we might pull away the first 4-5 season games.
