Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

And i'm happy he didn't sign for Benfica  But Jansen back in the rumour mill

Is Benfica looking for a good LB or would he only be used as a sub?
I would be happy if we get him off the wage bill this winter tbh.

A good LB and a clear starter. Their choices are Eliseu (former Málaga) who is struggling in physical terms, Loris Benito (ex Zurich) struggling to adapt to portuguese football and André Almeida (former Academy player). None has been able to be a clear starter.

That sounds promising. Unfortunately Benfica is out of Europe so they won't be desperate to get him, but hopefully they still see an urgent need to sign Jansen.

Karius extended his contract until 2018. Bit suprising but I'm happy for Mainz.

@Sly
Just saw this on kicker. Great to have him for a few more years, he is very important to our team. And we'll be able to cash in once a big club inevitably comes for him - though not too soon, hopefully.

Have Bayern really only conceded 4 goals so far in the League?

Yup.

Could and should've been more if it wasn't for great goalkeeping and terrible misses though (Malanda (:() and Szalai). But their defensive work is just excellent.

That's just incredible.

I wonder what the Bundesliga record is, or what the record across all of Europe's top leagues?

18 goals conceded in our treble season is the record at the moment in the Bundesliga. No idea what's the record across all of Europe's top leagues. Milan finished a season with only 12 goals conceded once if I remember correctly, but I can't tell you if that's the record in Serie A.

I always make these joke bets with colleagues at work, telling them Bayern would only concede single digits during that season. I always back out of course, since that's ridiculous. I should probably stick to it this year... :D

So I guess, Kühne is back again as the one who saves Hamburg despite saying the exact opposite only a few weeks ago. Because no one was interested in buying shares of the club, it's again him, who pumps money into that bottomless pit of incompetence (sorry @gofelx ;) ). 7.5% shares for €18.75m seems like a lot if you look at the situation the club is in (as a comparison, Wang Jianlin just bought 20% of Atletico for €45m, so he paid relatively less - 2.25m/1% vs the 2.5m/1% Kühne pays). In addition to that, he also bought the naming rights for the stadium, but doesn't use it to promote his company. Instead it'll be called again 'Volksparkstadion', which was its original name from the 50's to the early 00's. Would such a deal even count within the FFP rules? I guess playing in the EL/CL is too far away anyway for it to be a problem, so no one cares. The fans will love it though.

And to think there was people on here that didn't want Pep as he plays too boring

He didn't say the opposite at all, it was just the Media who were vastly exaggerating as usual. Kühne had the chance to buy the shares until some time in December, he simply didn't use the opportunity. He probably wasn't happy with the price, but after renegotiations he's now happy to invest. ;)

Apparently there is an investor who wants to stay anonymous and in an interview today Gernandt also confirmed that another investor is seriously interested.

I think it has something to do with our stadium being a lot more valuable and the fact that Atletico has a lot more debts than us.

I am indeed very happy. Imtech's contract was running out in 2016 anyway and they didn't want to renew it, now they're even paying us compensation because of our new "sponsor". And we finally have our stadium name back. :)
All in all it is definitely a step in the right direction.

Well yeah, it's obviously great for the club. But aren't you at least slightly annoyed by Kühne's ever increasing power within the club? So far it's just money though. If you don't use it wisely, it's not a step in the right direction at all. At least with Beiersdorfer in charge, there's some hope that it might actually happen, I give you that.

We have to wait and see. Kühne is not a member of the "Aufsichtsrat" and shouldn't be able to have much influence. Obviously he likes to give interviews etc. but I hope it will stay a little bit more quiet for a while now that the deal is announced.
We have many contracts running out so we lose a lot of deadwood and can invest the money wisely hopefully. There is a lot of work left though so I'm also not overly enthusiastic atm.

Getting ready for the restart - aka snowball fight
Had to go some pages backwards to find this thread...

Bundesliga starts again tomorrow night with Wolfsburg vs Bayern.

Bayern's winter training went without injuries - until yesterday. Now Ribery and Rafinha are out for two to three weeks...

Saturday will be interesting, too. Dortmund has to play in Leverkusen...

Leverkusen should take advantage of Dortmund during the weekend, don't see Dortmund recovering anytime soon. Meanwhile, the Bayern train keeps rolling on. Complete no-contest for the title this season.

It's true that Bayern and their players have to keep up their sharpness but from an outsider's point of view this season is done and dusted at the top.

Be interesting to see if Bayern will remain unbeaten in the second half of the season. They were close last year until that dip of form happened.

Now I would not bet anymore on a Hamburg relegation...

I love him as a player - like fans from every club he was at.

When he played in munich, him and his wife lived near to where a buddy of mine has his house. Mate's wife attended the same tennis club as Mrs. Olic and sometimes played with her. Ivica quite often collected his wife, always being very friendly, also agreed to sign some jerseys. Very down-to-earth kind of guy. Extremely likeable.

João Pereira has signed for Hannover. Don't know hows their right side of the defense but it's a good purchase. Experienced (played in Benfica, Sporting, Valência and Portugal national team), decent player and it must have been cheap since his contract was running out at Valência.

RB is kind of a weak link for Hannover, they have Sakai but he's a bit suspect defensively. They were actually were close to signing the young talent Stojanovic who is impressing at Maribor but the deal fell through in the end. I guess Pereira was their backup plan and from what I've heard he can certainly have an impact for them.

I liked what i saw from Stojanovic (certainly better footballer than Fuchs ) in the Sporting vs Maribor games but João Pereira is a superior player. Of course Stojanovic is younger and has potencial to evolve into a long term solution but as a short fix, João Pereira will definitely give more to Hannover depending on his adaptation. Has to be careful with mouthing off to the refs because i doubt german refs will allow his usual antics.

I don't get it either.
The transfer sum will probably be spread onto the contract length - and they have lost Olic who came from Bayern and for sure was earning well at Wolfsburg.
But they are currently under investigation by UEFA

Of course i doubt Wolfsburg (Allofs and the other VW bosses) would be so stupid to sign him for that money if they couldn't do it.
But like said they are already under investigation and that transfer* will make it not better for them.

*"Apparently" Schürrle will earn 6m per season at Wolfsburg (like he has at Chelsea). I doubt Olic had the same contract.

Olic was on 4.8 million EUR after reports. Olic came without transfer sum. And Malanda's wage...

The source is from September. Rodriguez has made a new contract.

How much of the bundesliga is shown on free to air TV in Germany? I was looking at the TV rights deals for all the major leagues and the Bundesliga has it pretty bad in comparison, Germany should really have the largest domestic market with it being the richest and biggest country in Europe yet it's 4th only just ahead of Spain. Does Sky Deutschland have any serious competition for the rights?

Looking forward to tonight's game. Predictions?

Bayern have won the last 5 vs Wolfsburg and the last 4 at Wolfsburg. Form suggests they'll continue their march towards an unbeaten season.

Your last question. Sky does not have serious competition, but people in Germany are not willing to buy Sky the way they are in Great Britain.

Our MotM-show on Saturday starts at 6 p.m. (the matches end at 17:15) with 5 to 10 minutes for the highlights of each match. There is a show at 11 p.m. that shows them again plus the highlights of the 6:30 p.m. match.

The highlights of the Sunday matches are shown at 9:30 p.m.

Highlights of the Saturday matches are shown on private television (free) on Sunday morning, too.

I guess the higher commercial income the Bundesliga clubs have in Germany might have a lot to do with the bigger impact on free TV. Even if it does not equalize the higher income for the TV rights in other countries.

Alaba is back. Very defensive line-up, I'm not really sure how that's going to look on the pitch.

Neuer - Alonso, Dante, Lewandowski, Robben, Boateng, Bernat, Rode, Müller, Alaba, Schweinsteiger.

vs

Benaglio - Vieirinha, Naldo, Knoche, Rodriguez - Luiz Gustavo, Arnold - Caligiuri, De Bruyne, Perisic - Dost

@Balu I'd expect something similar to the asymmetrical 3-3-4 you played in the first half of the season, with Rode/Schweinsteiger pushing up from midfield instead of a proper left winger.

Think I'll tune in tonight. Don't watch enough German football but no other matches catch my eye.

Yeah, something like that. Still a bit odd. Without Götze it really lacks creativity. Rode and Schweinsteiger are very different players to Lahm and Götze in that set-up.

I wouldn't mind to see Rode at rightback, I still have hope that he's the solution for the nationalteam in that position and with the players starting today a 4-3-3 would make a lot of sense.

Müller
Robben - Lewandowski

A little bit asymetric probably - I guess that Alaba and Bernat come over the left side whereas it will be Robben/Müller over the right. Striker and no. 10s not defined - they will switch.

Götze does not show any creativity at Bayern or for Germany. That was in Dortmund...

But Wolfsburg is hard on the man - not Götze environment. And they are strong with set-pieces.

That is how Sky sees it... - but nobody knows... (and in that case... the 4-1-4-1 - Müller would be on the right and Schweinsteiger on the left)
