Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

Dortmund again has to be disappointed with that result. Too little and they still suffer from the same problems like all season they can neither put a game to bed nor keep their opponent from coming back. At the front they waste too many chances and at the back they make too many easy mistakes and I don't feel there has been any progress for them this season whatsoever.

Pretty sure those last two games destroyed the small chance Dortmund still had to finish in the top 4. From now on, it really is a fight against relegation and nothing more. They better manage to get a win in Bremen on Saturday.

Injured since late October. Had a couple great games but a few bad ones as well. In general better than last season though.

The World Champion problem. They think they are now Superman, play for Bayern or in La Liga, are injured, retired from the national team - or are in a real bad shape...

I guess I have mentioned everybody in that one sentence...

Starke
Benatia - Martinez - Badstuber
Lahm - Rode - Alonso - Thiago - Alaba
Pizarro - Lewandowski

They would make a good team... ;)

Yes. The 16th vs the 3rd of the second Bundesliga.

I just want Darmstadt 98 to go up. That would probably be the greatest miracle in modern football. Only avoided being relegated to the 4th division two years ago by another teams license being revoked. Then they get promoted the following season with a league low budget. In the promotion battle they lose 1-3 at home, only to win away 4-2 with a goal in the 121st minute and the opposing team hitting the post in the 122nd minute. As a little side story they wear "never give up" rubberbands from a boy that´s battling through brain tumours and strokes on and off for ten years and is a little miracle himself.

Then their cast of has-beens and misfits ,with again one the smallest budget in the league and a stadium that has barely seen any upgrades since the early 1980s, jumps into 2nd place in the second division at the half way stage. All that while having the least possession, the lowest pass-completion rate and the worst tackling numbers in the whole league. If somebody delivered that as a Hollywood script, they´d be told to dial it down a few notches. It just sounds too ridiculous.

Did Alonso, Lewandowski, Benatia and Alaba all get injured the other night?

I watched the game tonight, it's incredible how far they have fallen, the lack of belief on the ball is so evident, gone is the crisp, incisive passing that shredded teams. I think they will manage to avoid relegation but finding ian explanation for such an extreme slump is going to be more difficult.

 that team would give the PL a shake!

(Not laughing at Bayern's misfortune BTW, just laughing at how ridiculous it is)

Neuer
Rafinha - Boateng - Dante - Bernat
Schweinsteiger
Robben - Götze - Ribery
Müller

Still a decent line-up for the game today :) Schweinsteiger has his work cut out in theory, but we just need to push our possession percentage over 70% and we should be fine. With the level Boateng and Neuer are playing on at the moment in our high defensive line, Mainz shouldn't get too many chances on the counter.

I wouldn't mind if Hojbjerg or Gaudino get another start though and Shaqiri should probably play a few minutes as well, if he really leaves in the winter.

Are Bayern that good that they'll play with 10 men?

Oops. Even better then, Hojbjerg can start  . We did pretty well against City with 10 men though, if not for the lapses in concentration in the end. I'd say we have a decent chance with 10 men against Mainz.

Actually insane how high our defense plays and then only conceding 3 in 16. I'm still a bit worried what would happen if we play like this (we won't play like this, but then there is the mind set the defenders develop) against a team with a deadly attack force like Real Madrid is.

You just have to love professionals like this. At the end of the year he will be the Non-German (with exception of Arjen, but it is easier if you are from the Netherlands) with the best German...

That's crazy. He's in Germany for 4 months and had no time at all to prepare for the move to Germany, it's really impressive.

Damn, I've studied German for about 7 months and I doubt I'd be able to hold a conversation like that just yet.

Matchday 17, 19/12/14 - 21/12/14: Last games before the break
Line up: Neuer - Dante, Ribery, Robben, Rafinha, Boateng, Bernat, Götze, Müller, Schweinsteiger (C), Hojbjerg

As expected. Our bench doesn't look that impressive though.

Substitutes: Reina, Zingerle - Pizarro, Scholl, Gaudino, Kurt, Weiser

OMG, Alonso is not only one of the most handsome footballers ever but also a linguistic genius. That's really impressive, I know ppl who have been living in Germany for years and their German is not as good as his! Great stuff!

Hamburg in shambles again. Kühne, a rich businessman who loaned them money is pulling out. This guy is such an idiot. Hamburg must have been incredible desperate to take his money in the first place. I am sure @gofelx is stoked about it.

I am also surprised that nobody is talking about Hoffenheim and 50+1. The german football league (DFL) allows Dietmar Hopp to take over a majority share of the club. 50+1 was under attack for quite some time and lost substance but that’s pretty much the final blow, isn’t it?

I know this has been flogged to death, but I still can't get my head round Dortmund's awful form in the Bundesliga Vs their form in the CL. Anybody got an idiots guide summary for me?

They had to as far as I know. Hopp started to put money into the football club in 1989 and after more than 20 years of consistent financial investment in the same club, he's allowed to take over. It's a logical step after the rule change for which Martin Kind fought.
