Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

A lot of us see him as the coach that will follow when Pep quits at Bayern. He is a friend of Rummenigge - they have played together for Servette Geneve and shared a room then.

I wouldn't mind at all. Can't see Pep extend his contract to be honest.

Gladbach are incredible. Hahn 1-0. And when did Kramer become a brilliant box to box midfielder? I always though he was a great talent, but saw him as a more defensive midfielder. He's already better than Khedira in my opinion.

He is also surprisingly strong on the ball for a player of his size and has sometimes incredible little dribblings in his games you really wouldn't expect, not to mention his enormous engine.

Gladbach are lovely to watch.

Also, Wolfsburg would be top if Malanda could finish at least a little bit.

As you mentioned Malanda, I don't know why he's not getting much playing time as of late. He's a brilliant talent in my opinion, two missed opportunities don't change that. I feel like something happened between Hecking and him so he's out of favor.

Btw what were you doing against Bremen yesterday? I had high hopes...

I think he's just third in the pecking order behind Gustavo and Guilavogui. They're winning too, so there's no need for change.

It was a ridiculous loss against Werder. We completely dominated them for twenty minutes, should have been two or three goals up. They couldn't string two passes together, but we let the pressure go, let them back in. They scored two either side of half time - our confidence was shot and we started playing like United under Moyes.

I know that there's no need to switch the lineup but he's not even getting mentioned to play against Krasnodor in the EL for instance. I really liked what I've seen of him at Wolfsburg so it's kind of a shame :/

Hmm yeah I was so confident after you got an early lead, what I've seen so far from Werder this season was shocking. "Trainereffekt" I guess...

According to "Pep Confidential" (good read, btw), Peps plan could be as follows: Stay for the length of the contract, quit for a year, then do the same in the last big league remaining. But then many came to Munich to move on to something 'bigger' and changed their minds - ask Ribery :)
And yes, Favre could be a good successor. As would be others, the league has some fantastic talent, not only players. As long as Rummennigge has dropped that crazy idea of his that Slomka might be a good fit.

Yeah, agree, exactly why he's better than Khedira at the moment in my opinion. Phenomenal development in the past 18months.

Not only Kramer develops to get a very good player. Looks like the other player that joined the World Cup team late - Skhrodan Mustafi - does a fine job at Valencia now. He is already a regular in the central defense, they are 2nd in La Liga and he scored 2 goals today.

Löw didn't do him any favors by playing him as RB. Can't really say much about his qualities at CB (he can't be that bad, eh?), but it will take some time for the public to warm to him again thanks to that experiment.

Dortmund should go for him next summer. Could be the perfect (young, german, talented) Kehl replacement for them. But i doubt there's a chance, Bayer won't give players to rivals.

Leverkusen might have been a 'joke' when they pissed their pants against Barca and United, but with their 2:1 win away against Zenit, B04 are in the driver's seat for first place in a group which also features Benfica and AS Monaco.

Shows that the Bundesliga is not only Bayern München, all the other clubs also possess great quality.

People have been overly critical regarding Leverkusen anyway. Everybody kept saying how shit Leverkusen is in Europe but their games against Barca, United, and PSG are the only instances where they've really been crap. They shat their pants in those games because of the big names. In recent seasons though they've beaten Chelsea, Valencia, Real Sociedad, Shakhtar, Benfica, Zenit, and minnows like Genk etc and have reached the round of 16 time and time again.

Did hear that from some people. Could be and Im not angry at you or anything but he also could stay for some time.
Bayern is in the top 3 ever and atm. München is a great city and he has a board, who does all the work for him which burned him out in Barcelona.
And to be honest; my dream would be 10 years and then god Lahm takes over with Schweini as Co:D;)(Pep praises his football brain in "Herr Pep").

True! Im not the biggest fan of the club but they do good work overall and a nice job in europe for years. Even Bayer put 75 millions into the clubs account in the summer.
Good developement there.

5 wins out of 6 games this week, the last two matchdays in Europe were brilliant for the league. We closed the gap to England in the UEFA 5 year ranking even further and the next matchday should be really interesting in the battle for 2nd place. 4 games between German and English teams will be played in 3 weeks (fecking international break means we have to wait one more week than usual). The Arsenal - Dortmund and City - Bayern games aren't that exciting, now that the German teams can lose and still easily top their group, but the other two games are interesting.

Schalke is still 2nd in the group, but they can't afford to lose the next game against Chelsea, because then an away win at Maribor in the last game still might not be enough to go through. After all, they couldn't even beat Maribor at home, so a win in that game is far from a given. What makes it even more interesting, if Schalke win at home, they could actually top the group. They'd be ahead of Chelsea in the head to head comparison and both teams would be on 8 points going into the last game with one of Sporting or Maribor threatening to get a top2 spot in the group. So far this season, Schalke actually performed significantly better against top teams than they did against small teams. Di Matteo vs Chelsea should add even more excitement. I expect a convincing Chelsea win though, Schalke is still riddled with injuries and look worse under Di Matteo than before.

Wolfsburg - Everton is a bit similar. Wolfsburg is 2nd at the moment, one point behind Everton. If Wolfsburg win the game, they are in a great position to finish top of the group, if they lose they most likely need to get a result away at Lille in the last game to get through. I expect Wolfsburg to be highly motivated, their away performance at Everton was embarrassing and by far their worst performance of the season. Ever since they improved a lot and are in great form at the moment. I don't rate Wolfsburg that highly, but if they continue to play on the level they showed in the last weeks, they might be able to get the win against Everton they need.

As usual a bit of praise for Gladbach. Not their best game yesterday, but they rotated 5 players and still were comfortably in control of the game, showed patience and scored two goals to get the important away win.

A not so long time ago: "Bring it on, Pep!" :D

Dortmund's ongoing crisis might have something to do with the fact that after this season, Sebastian Kehl will most likely be the only remaining player on this FourFourTwo cover who is still wearing a BVB jersey. ;)

Did you watch the game? Wolfsburg dominated the match, but Everton hit them on the break and scored with pretty much every opportunity they got. Wolfsburg on the other hand had like 20 shots and only scored from a free kick in added time. I wouldn't call that display embarrassing really, just extremely naive. But as you said that game took place some time in September when Wolfsburgs League form was really shocking. Now the team seems to have clicked, so I certainly expect a Wolfsburg win.

Agree with the rest of the post though! ;)

Wolfsburg was one of the teams with a lot of World Cup starters in important positions - and they were participating with different teams so jumped into preparation on different times and fitness levels. They needed some weeks but somehow managed to not slip too much during that time.

The people who believe that haven't really looked into the other 100 reasons for their downslide. They already had the same problems last season - with the difference that their set-pieces worked and that now the mental situation adds to it. And I do not think that Götze or Lewa would change so much. You can still bully Götze very easy and Lewa in the first part of last season seldom or never scored decisive goals in the league.

At the weekend they play against the real Borussia. Favre already had their number in both matches last season and the way Gladbach plays does not really favour Dortmund. Will be an interesting match.

Nope, Sebastian Kehl is retiring after this season for sure. So no one of this picture will still be there.

@OutlawGER
What do you think about Jonas Hector being called up for the nationalteam? I haven't seen enough of him to say if he could be a solution, or at least a back-up, for the leftback spot. The only full game I've seen of him is the one against Bayern this season.

Matchday 11, 07/11/14 - 09/11/14
If the ref were strict, Berlin could be down a man after 5 minutes.

For Cologne he is an absolute outstanding player. Probably our most promising player together with Timo Horn. He is very solid in defense and also can do some things happen going forward. He's still young and unexperienced on the highest level. I obviously don't think that it is enough for a first place in the team yet but maybe he can surprise us all or at least be a good backup. I think he deserves this chance anways. And considering our current situation on LB i really could see him taking this chance.

FCB / Line up: Neuer - Alonso, Dante, Ribery, Lewandowski, Rafinha, Boateng, Bernat, Götze, Lahm (K), Müller

Looks like we're back to a normal 4231 without Alaba. I already miss our crazy back three system :(

Lewandowski isn't scoring a lot so far, but his movement is brilliant, beautiful 1-2 with Ribery in the build-up to Müller's goal. 0-1 now.

I wonder how long Schalke will keep Di Matteo. They play significantly worse than they did under Keller.

What kind of contract did they give him? Maybe he'll just make a carreer out of playing horrible football and then taking a 2 year paid vacation.

3 years as far as I know. Contract till 2017

@Balu Do you happen to know the record for offsides by a single player in a Bundesliga match? Müller must be well on his way today.

Our passing in the last third has been terribly inaccurate today.
