Ipswich Town Football Club (nicknamed nicknamed The Blues, and The Tractor Boys) is a professional football club based in Ipswich, Suffolk, East Anglia, England. The club competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football, following back to back promotions from League One and the Championship. The club was founded as an amateur side in 1878 and were known as Ipswich A.F.C. until 1888 when they merged with Ipswich Rugby Club to form Ipswich Town Football Club. Ipswich were elected to the Football League on 30 May 1938, and played in the Third Division South until the end of the 1953–54 season, when they won the title and promotion to the Second Division.

Alf Ramsey became the club's manager in August 1955, and Ipswich Town won promotion to the top level of English football, the First Division, in 1960–61. In the top flight for the first time, Ipswich became champions of the Football League at the first attempt in 1961–62. As English league champions, they qualified for the 1962–63 European Cup, defeating Maltese side Floriana 14–1 on aggregate before losing to AC Milan. Ramsey left the club in April 1963 to take charge of the England national team. Subsequently, Bobby Robson led Ipswich to two major trophies and several seasons in top flight European football. The successful period began in 1973 when the club won the Texaco Cup and finished fourth in the league, qualifying for the UEFA Cup. Major success came in 1978 when Ipswich beat Arsenal at Wembley Stadium to win their only FA Cup trophy. Ipswich won the UEFA Cup in 1981 with a 5–4 victory over AZ Alkmaar in a two-legged final.

Ipswich Town's main rivals are Norwich City. When the two teams meet it is known as the East Anglian derby, or, informally, as the "Old Farm derby", a comic reference to the "Old Firm Derby" played between Scottish teams Celtic and Rangers and the prominence of agriculture in East Anglia. The club has played its home games at Portman Road since 1884.

Should be able to win this one... still no sign of tickets available except dodgy-looking site wanting $430!

    If its to be 3-4-2-1

    Onana

    De ligt
    Evans
    Martinez

    Ugarte
    Eriksen

    Mazroui
    Amad
    Bruno
    Garnacho

    Hojlund

I think Anorim will surprise people who are expecting him to immediately implement his 3-4-2-1 from Sporting. Wouldn't be shocked if he looks at the players available and starts with a back four.

McKenna will be very much so up for this. It won't be easy.

2 weeks of training under the new manager, Yoro and Shaw could play too. Would be nice to see.

One of those games where I don’t mind an early Saturday kickoff. Instead we’ll have to wait an extra day after a long break. Annoying.

Hope for no post-international break hangover, and players are pumped to impress the new manager.

Annoying how they get their first win just before they play us. Spurs away as well so they’ll be buzzing

Expecting to see a full XI's worth of convenient international duty-skiving minor knocks or they're all cowards.

Yeah agreed. Even if he fully intends to move to 3421, it's not necessarily a good idea to try it before he's had a chance to bed it in with the players in training.

Not the easiest game to be in charge of first up. McKenna will have his team well up for it. Ipswich can be a bit relentless and we don't find it easy when teams come at us.

Ipswich will be up for this after their first win of the season. Would take any kind of win tbh, points only thing we need atm.

Who knows, it's possibly a clash between new United manager and future United manager.

Thinking if this is too early for Yoro? But if Amorim were to start with his favoured 3 at the back, he's having to pick 1 out of the 3 slow coaches in Evans/Maguire/Lindeloff so may surprise some with 3rd defender.

No easy away games in PL and Amorim will learn very quickly how intense PL games are, but looking forward to it after the dross of intern'l games.

I genuinely think this will be a real test. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1-1 draw.

The last time they won an EPL match before today, Garnacho wasn't alive yet.

It'll be very interesting to see how Ruben lines us up. Will he immediately switch to a back three? If Shaw is available, does he slot right into wing back?

Where do Amad and Garnacho fit into a system with no forward wingers?

    Onana
Lindelof - De Ligt - Martinez
    Amad - Ugarte - Casemeiro - Maz
    Bruno - Garnacho
    Hojlund

2 incredible players that any team would miss too. Hopefully Rashford dropped and a hardworking team to stamp our authority on the game and then our quality will take us past them. you have to win the individual battles in games like this from the off because they will be well up for this.

It may sound odd but I don't want Rashford dropped, unless we do play 3-4-3 and the double 10s are Bruno, Amad. Garnacho is much better as a sub and despite neither being good enough as starters, Rashford is marginally better and an awful sub.

It would be good to get rid of Dalot, but do we think that Amad is physical enough to play at wing back? I could see him being in the 2 with Bruno.

    Dalot

    Casemiro
    Ugarte

Total guess, very much doubt he will totally change the formation straight away without much time to work with the team. Possibly something like the above with the full backs pushing high up and Bruno/Amad playing closer to Hojlund.

    Onana
    Maz Deligt Martinez
    Dalot Casemiro Ugarte Garnacho
    Amad Zirkzee Bruno

If we dont score 5, can we sack Amorim and get Ruud back ?

Genuinely, I think he could play either role. He's shown a few times he doesn't mind the physical side. He can battle, track back to win the ball. The final against City is a decent example, also a couple of times in the last 2 games. He's obviously more suited to the advanced role but I think he'll be used in more than one position over the season

Will be interesting to see the lineup for this one. Personally I think he will change to a back 3 immediately.

Wouldn’t make sense. If he’s going to implement something he may aswell waste no time and start straight away. Drill it into the players so they don’t get confused.
