Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

Yes, normally Gladbach makes now one counter and the 1:0...
And Dortmund is dead after the hour because of their effort...

Amazing, amazing performance by the lads, except it still stands 0:0.

Now wait for the inevitable mistake by a Dortmund player in the second half that will give Gladbach the winning goal.

Story of the Bundesliga season so far, which makes it so bitter and frustrating. It would be so much easier to accept the current situation if we would be truly shit and desevered to be where we stand right now based on overall play.

While this isn't over yet I have to say Gladbach has been really disappointing. After their great performance against Bayern I thought they might be a bit more involved in this game but they didn't create a singe chance so far.

They look really tired in my opinion. Not really surprised. Still funny that it looks like they had to beat themselves to finally lose a game.

That's just fecking amazing

Very nice of Kramer to help out Dortmund but if I were them I would still worry about the fact that they can't fecking convert even the best of chances in the league. Their crisis seems far from over in my book.

Thank god. 22-1 shots on goal. Immense perfomance by the lads and the support. This game just lacked goals and you could cut the mental pressure with a knive. Incredibly important win.

It's ridiculous how wasteful they are in the league, while they are quite effective in both cup competitions .

4 points behind Schalke, 7 behind Leverkusen. There's no way Hannover or Hoffenheim will finish 4th. Their next 3 games are away at Paderborn and Frankfurt and then at home against Hoffenheim. If they win all 3, which is easily possible, they're back in the battle for top 4 in my opinion.

Gladbach is so good this season that I would call that win a 4pointer.
They are back in the CL hunt.

It is simply mental pressure, nothing more.

You could see at the reactions of Klopp, Hummels and the other players how important this win was. Finally we got a lucky (sort of) break today and it could be very well be the turning point in the Bundesliga season. This whole game, including the huge support by the crowd, felt a lot like the Mainz game back in fall 2011, where we also dominated the game after a poor start in the league, but needed a late time deflected goal by Piszcu to win it. After that they finally started to really click and went on an immense run.

Everyone who watched the game today can clearly see, that this team does not lack the skill and ability to battle for the CL places. This downward spiral simply sucked any confidence out of them and made them think too much. It is incredibly hard to show your best when you have the feeling that everything is against you. Kramer has done Dortmund a huge favour here, probably far beyond the three points from this match.

Well in all likelyhood Hoffenheim and Hannover will drop a lot of points over the course of the season. Right now I think Wolfsburg, Gladbach, Leverkusen and Schalke will be the main contenders for rank 2-4. That's 13, 10, 7 and 4 points difference for Dortmund - given that Dortmund only have to overtake two of those teams things don't look that bad for them anymore.

They won't fire Di Matteo quickly enough to have a chance of finishing top 4. At the end of the season, both Di Matteo and Heldt will be gone and they can start all over again. It they're really lucky, Draxler plays badly enough that no one triggers his release clause.

Oh and, how many games does Auba have to start upfront until you believe me that Dortmund had their first choice striker for this year already in the team last season?

Right now it appears that Aubameyang is first choice. However at the time of the Bayern match that wasn't foreseeable, because Klopp kept rotating his strikers.

I agree that Di Matteo looks pretty bad atm, but you know Schalke.. somehow they always manage to barely make it in.

We currently don´t have a first choice striker. Aubameyang still played more time on the right wing or as second deeper lying striker in a 4-4-2 than as clear cut CF this season. His versatility is also one of the main reasons why he played way more than Immobile and Ramos. The other is that he simply understands the system better than the other two as of yet.

I don´t think that they will be a clear picking order among the strikers like it was with Lewandowski. Each of the three offer something different and are better suited for different systems and play styles. So far each of them have a scorer/minute ratio of under 100, which is pretty decent.

Dortmund's twitter account was possessed for a moment when Aubameyang's goal was disallowed.

Seriously though, what an own goal that was from Kramer. Was he still feeling the effects of that concussion he got?

In all seriousness, has there ever been a more "crazier" example than Dortmund this season? They're the second best team in the league by a country mile, dominate almost every game, breaks records in Europe, and still before this game they were dead last. The odds have seriously not been in favor of Dortmund so far, so the own goal today was pretty "deserved". They still need 6-7 more gifts like that in order to break even with Lady Fortune:lol:

Are they the second best team in the league? Apart from Socrates and Reus there is no player I would put in a top 3 of their position in the Bundesliga without Bayern players right now.

And their results in the league since a year - not just this season - do not give them a clear second spot.

That are the results of the last 34 matchdays - from matchday 11 in 2013/14 to matchday 11 in 2014/15...
I think a full season is enough to judge the current state more than just 11 matchdays of this season...

Bayern München 88
VfL Wolfsburg 65
FC Schalke 04 61
Bor. Mönchengladbach 56
1. FSV Mainz 05 55
FC Augsburg 54
Bayer 04 Leverkusen 53
Borussia Dortmund 53
Hannover 96 48
TSG Hoffenheim 48
SC Freiburg 39
Eintracht Frankfurt 38
Hertha BSC 37
Werder Bremen 34
VfB Stuttgart 28
Hamburger SV 24
1. FC Nürnberg 19
Eintracht Braunschweig 18
1. FC Köln (N) 15
SC Paderborn 07 15

Even if you take the bad start away. They have been on level with Wolfsburg in the 23 matchdays of the last season - and Schalke who had a bad start, too, and is only 4 points ahead, is a clear second in that period four points ahead of Dortmund. If I take the trend of the last 12 months Wolfsburg is without doubt the second best team in Germany.
