Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

Hi. I wanted to ask to our fellow german caftards if there is any show, like the Match of the day in the PL, but bundesliga version? Does it even exist?

Every Saturday from about 18:30 to 20:00 in public TV - only about an hour after the end of the Saturday matches - Sportschau.

At 23:00 there is another one that usually shows short videos of each match and a guest in the other big public channel. Last night with Christoph Kramer and they showed him a clip in which Müller, Lahm and Neuer told him what happened in the 15 minutes he cannot remember of the World Cup final... That they first thought nothing happened but that they got sceptical when he started to grab Lahm's armband, when he started to call Müller Gerd and gratulated him for the 74 final goal, when he wanted to substitute Neuer in goal... They finally got him from the pitch when he wanted to swap shirts with the referee to prevent that he might even pull down his pants... You never know...*

On Sunday morning a private TV (no pay TV) shows short videos of the matches - then there is a 2 hour talk shows with guests from the league (managers, coaches), media and pundits.

On Sunday evening at 22:00 in the regional channels of public TV they show videos of the two Sunday matches.

Plus you can see each match in full length on Sky and additional football pundit shows. But that is Pay TV. And each match of the second Bundesliga (the Monday match is shown of Free TV). Plus three or four EPL matches in full.

*Just saw that they put that video clip onto Youtube...

Bayern's average positioning in the match against Cologne...

The closest things would probably be Sportschau/Sportstudio
"Sportschau" and "Sportstudio" are pillars of german public TV. Both have been there for 5 decades (!), Sportschau started 1961, Sportstudio 1965 (with the same signature tune ever since :D).

Sportschau focusses on reportages whereas the "Studio" is more of a talk show with one or more guests and has produced a load of memorable performances over the years, the most popular being a boxer who refused to say a thing, a fight between Heynckes, Hoeness and Daum, Beckenbauer scoring from the top of a "Weißbier" glass, and the first female moderators calling Schalke "05" instead of "04" (rumour has it she got sacked for that).

From Sunday, free private "Sport1" has their "Bundsliga - der Spieltag" on rotation which contains nothing but 5min clips of all games of the weekend. It is the most comprehensive thing if you just want to know how the matches were.

"Sportstudio" also produced its moments, for example when one of the first female moderators called Schalke "05" instead of "04" and got instantly sacked for that.
She wasn't actually. She left almost 2 years later on her own terms. Think the funniest part about her time was, when she read the Bild am Sonntag critic about how bad she was doing in her 2nd show at the beginning of her 2nd show. The newspaper was sold Saturday evening before the show was televised, which kinda proved how ridiculous the journalism at Bild was at the time (not that it's any better today). I think about 10 years ago it became public that the head of sports news at ZDF at the time iniated the campaign himself to get rid of her. Pretty embarassing stuff overall and as bad as she was (she really was horrible and deserved to be fired, no doubt about that), everyone else involved was even worse.

I already corrected my post as she also was "Sportstudio".
You got that wrong about the TV director. He said *she* was target of "Bild" because they wanted to damage *him*. He was an SPD man, came from the politics ressort, and wanted to add more quality to sports broadcasting by adding "outside" moderators.
On top of "Bild" never being shy to voice public ressentiments, like "women have no clue about football".

Isn't he dead and it all became public when she came out with that? It's possible that I blamed him wrongly. But if I remember correctly, someone at ZDF initiated the attacks through the Bild. Might have been that he was a target as well though and they used here because she was obviously the easiest target. Still a dark moment in the history of the show and the channel in every way you can look at it.

/edit.
yeah the wiki article confirm it that he was a target as well, my bad.

By the way, do you also hate it that the Sportstudio doesn't invite several different guests anymore? Would make for much better discussions than the stupid moderator talks sensible with the one guest? There's no room for drama anymore :(.

I'm quite sure they would throw in a group huddle if there was a great drama going on in the league (and the protagonists would agree to battle it out in public), only we haven't really had a good one the last few years. Since the major clubs all have their own TV channels and a daily press conference, they use those to play pingpong like Rummenigge and Watzke.

They should just force the clubs to do it. They pay a lot of money for the rights to show the highlights of the games, include a clause that every club has to send one important figure 5 times a year into the show and instantly you have at least two, most of the time 3 guests. It's not too much to ask. Of course it's a bit of a problem, because sky also want a guest quite often and from time to time someone has to show up at the Doppelpass on Sunday morning, but still. It really should be possible. 5 times a year means Klopp/Guardiola once, Rummenigge/Watzke and Sammer/Zorc twice each. They'll survive that.

/edit:
actually, they don't even need someone that often, because also they should invite someone from different sports than football a few times and from time to time it's of course interesting to have a player in the show like yesterday. But there's really no reason that let's say 10 times a year there is a bit of drama live on the show.

Well given the personalities, having Pep and Klopp there would be anticlimatic. They would sit there smiling and holding hands like newly-weds, declaring their mutual respect - and who wants to see that :D

Guardiola is probably a guest more suited to one of these talks we have today, fair enough. Sammer and Watzke together in the room would be quite interesting though. I doubt either of them could hold back, even if they tried. I'd also find it interesting to watch a discussion with coaches from different generations, let's say Hitzfeld and Klopp in the same room and let them talk about how they approach games, and how they treat the players. It doesn't necessary have to be Hoeness vs Daum drama every time, but it's much more interesting to watch two or three characters talk with each other and a host only moderating that discussion instead of these well behaved 1on1 talks between host and guests.

Guardiola won't even give interviews, so I can't see him enter the show even when forced at gunpoint. I like your idea, but in the end it would probably be Sammer every time, getting asked about upcoming transfers and repeating over and over again that he won't talk about these things in public. :boring:

Altough I would definitely tune in for a show with KHR and Watzke. Just add Scholl and Großkreutz -> TV history!

What's happened to dortmund? Our of the title race already?
A combination of still crazy bad luck with injuries and truely horrible defending. They need to get their act together soon and go on a run or they'll be out of the race, yes.

Had to leave and missed the last 20 minutes. What happened?

We didn't get 2 penalties. Several times our players were onside but he blew the whistle.
Aigner dives and of course he gets the free kick.
In the last minute Piazon converts a free kick from 30 meters after playing completely crap in the Frankfurt games before.
I'm so done, we were dominating them for 90 minutes and end up with nothing. Horrible.

Yeah, from what I've seen, it definitely was an improvement again. Sucks that it ends with a last minute set-back and another loss (not that I didn't enjoy it ;) ). Do you think Beiersdorfer will bring in another coach or will he give Zinnbauer a real chance?

It makes absolutely no sense to get rid of Zinnbauer. So far he's managed to get a great point against Bayern, then an unfortunate loss away against Gladbach where any team has trouble to get a point. Now we've seen one of the most undeserving wins from Frankfurt in a long time.

Performance wise we've been good, just didn't get the result today. But we've shown again that we're giving 100% each game.

Good thing is, you play Dortmund next, perfect time to turn the season around with another win there  .

A bit random question here but when do you (specifically BVB fans) think Gundogan will be back?

Be back as recover and be able to play, or be back as in return to old self and word class performances?

Yes, I definetly believe the first one, the second I have some doubts about:/

As far as I know, Gündogan is back in training and on his way to being match ready and recently said he's targetting the middle of october (i.e. after the break for international fixtures) for his return to the squad. I hope it's true this time.

If he manages to finally shake of his back problems, I see no reason why he shouldn't be able to once again be the player he was, provided there's no lasting damage. The lost year will hurt him, but Badstuber proved that you can overcome that.

All you have to know about match day no. 6

And - Düsseldorf must have played Chopin's funeral match and "Money, money, money" yesterday when Red Bull Leipzig came for their away match...

Dortmund are woeful this season, Klopps stock must be plummeting even with the injuries, this is about the 4th week in a row they are fecking up my acca!

So happy for Lasogga, finally he got his goal. Müller is playing really well so far.
