Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

The way Dortmund are always trying to exploit the space behind Leverkusen's back four I'm a bit surprised that Klopp hasn't brought on Aubameyang.

He's only a few days back from the Africa Cup, maybe that's the reason? I agree though, he would have been a better fit for the game than Mikhitaryan.

14. Berlin
15. HSV
16. Bremen
17. Stuttgart
18. Dortmund

All teams have been in the CL or the Europa League not so long ago...

I know
but at least its better than his previous one

looked like a chicken

 Clearly a fan of 80's WWF and the Red Rooster. Looks a promising talent though.

Anyone catch that goal line clearance from Hummels? Top quality

I thought he was pretty good today, his organizing of the back 4 and reading of the game is class, I know his lack of pace has caused concern but I think he'd compliment and improve Rojo.

Isn't it great that they take a winter break and come back to play in the snow.:)

You are watching Augsburg - Hoffenheim. Yes. Looks very slippery there. 2:1 at the moment at half time. Höjbjerg with his first assist for the 1:0.

But actually we had a lot of snow in the weeks of the winter break, too. Especially in that area of Germany.

Are you watching the game? How's Hojbjerg doing besides the assist?

Huntelaar banned for 6 games for his tackle last weekend. Seems a little harsh in my opinion, especially when you compare it to the Costa and Ronaldo incidents.
Really stupid from Huntelaar nevertheless.

If Schmiedebach would be out for months because of that foul then i could a little bit understand a 6 games ban......but so 3 games would be fair

Not sure if it had to be as much as 6 games, but I think he really deserved a harsh punishment: no chance at all to get the ball (in the middle of nowhere on top of that), not even close, he's just trying to hurt the other player, wasn't even provoked or anything. I think it's good if they send a clear message on purely malicious behaviour like this.

Interesting story from the Kicker.....Schalke (Di Matteo, Heldt & Co.) have told Huntelaar before the match against Hannover that he should get a yellow card so he would be banned against Bayern Munich tomorrow (He was on 4 yellows)

Poor fellow though.

I can imagine that he just wanted to make a tactical foul to get this yellow card but because Schmiedebach was too far away already it looked like this.

Look at Huntelaar's face, there was nothing rational about this.. If someone wants a yellow he can get it easily and without much risk via shirt pulling or time wasting.

Tbf Huntelaar always looks like this if he is running. Maybe not always, but i saw him like this many times. I wouldn't judge the situation just because of his face. (Klopp anyone? :D)

No doubt, it was dumb and deserves a punishment. But 6 games is by far too much. I would say 3.

But still funny if i imagine that his intention could have been the yellow card.

Schalke’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar given lengthy ban and misses Real Madrid tie

Schalke’s striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been handed a six-match ban for a reckless challenge on Manuel Schmiedebach which earned the Dutchman a straight red card in the 1-0 win over Hanover on Saturday.

“A six-game ban for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar,” the club said on their Twitter account. “Schalke does not accept the sanction.”It was not immediately clear whether theBundesliga club had already appealed against the decision by the German Football Association.

Schalke, who face Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16 this month, are fourth in the Bundesliga and visit Bayern Munich on Tuesday. Huntelaar, 31, who has played in 17 of the 18 league games this season, has scored seven times.

Yes....that's why i'm laughing so much

I really would like to know how some journalists are coming to their jobs

I do not see anything that tells that he is banned for the CL. The story that Schalke is Real's next CL opponent is just mentioned to make the article more interesting...

Bayern vs Schalke the most interesting game today, Huntelaar will miss the game because of his stupid red card, Draxler, Farfan, Goretzka (and a few more) are still injured in Schalke's team. We still miss Martinez, Lahm, Rafinha, Thiago and Ribery. Schalke usually play with a back five (Utchida, Fuchs as wingbacks, Höwedes, Matip, Nastasic as the 3 centerbacks) since Di Matteo took over, I doubt he'll change that. Should be interesting if Guardiola makes any adjustments after the Wolfsburg disaster or trusts his players to execute the high line simply better today. Also, Bayern will play in front of 75000 fans for the first time after another small stadium expansion in the Allianz Arena.

Schürrle isn't part of Wolfsburg's matchday squad in Frankfurt yet and probably will play/sit on the bench the first time at home against Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Tomorrow, Dortmund have to show what they've changed over the winterbreak. The ugly defend deep and hit longballs approach was somewhat acceptable against Leverkusen's crazy pressing, but at home against Augsburg it won't be good enough. They need a win, even though it'll be really difficult. Augsburg are playing a fantastic season so far and are still in the fight for the CL places. The game should give us an idea where both clubs stand and what we can expect for the rest of the season. A Dortmund win and they might finally turn it around, another win by Augsburg and they're in a brilliant position to actually pull it off and play in Europe next season.

The more important winter transfers in the Bundesliga:
(nothing huge happened besides the Schürrle transfer)

Bayern:
Shaqiri on loan to Inter (Inter have to buy him in the summer)
Hojbjerg on loan to Augsburg

Dortmund:
Kevin Kampl bought from Salzburg €12m

Schalke:
Nastasic on loan from Manchester City
Santana on loan to Olympiacos

Leverkusen:
Tin Jedvaj bought from Roma (was already on loan at the club) €7m

Wolfsburg:
Schürrle bought from Chelsea €32m
Olic sold to Hamburg €1.5m

A few from the rest of the league:
Ya Konan back to Hannover
Mats Möller-Daehli to Freiburg
Petersen from Bremen on loan to Freiburg (scored a hattrick in his first game!)
Serey Die from Basel to Stuttgart
Marcelo Diaz from Basel to Hamburg
Lakic to Paderborn
Deyverson on loan from Belenenses to Cologne

The interaction between Schalke's and Bayern's twitter accounts was top class

Really love midweek football. Can't see Schalke getting anything tonight with so many key players out injured. I missed the news about Huntelaar getting a lengthy ban, ridiculous to ban him for 6 matches for that tackle in my opinion.

They classified it as violent conduct. Which results in a 6 week to 6 month suspension if it was unprovoked.

Don't think it'll make much of a difference tonight though. Schalke is not good enough to take points off of munich (unless they really feck up) and Huntelaar had a bad season thus far anyway.

They could have easily classed it as a less severe incident and just given him 3-4 games though. The definition you posted would allow it.

I don't remember such a severe punishment in a comparable situation at all, usually it's 3, sometimes 4 games.
