NFL 2024 | Let's Football

Think that was me. Still stand by it.
Michael Vick is the standard bearer for dual threat QBs going into the NFL.

Hell, Randall Cunningham had some better measureables than Williams. It was a shame that he only played one year fully behind center.

I read it's not available until the season starts. It's a premium feature, and pre-season games are free to view even without subscription. Should become clear after that first Thursday night game.
It is working now. Just took a while for my subscription to take effect. Dunno why I folded and paid these assholes. Already the interface and some bugs are bothering me!

How did Rees-Zammit get on in his first Chiefs game? Get any reps?
Got a few touches and kicked one of the kickoffs (not a great one). Looked quite slow with the ball and unpolished. The latter is to be expected but the former is a concern, especially when you have UDFA players outperforming him and looking far more explosive whilst carrying. To his credit there was a play where he jinked and made a defender miss but you have to take into account that it was at the end when the Jags third string was out there.

So he got traded this off season & he's now holding out? Couldn't the Jets have sussed that out during conversations with the Eagles?

Hilarious situation tbh, the only reason he left the Eagles is that because he wanted to be paid so I have no idea what the jets were thinking if they didn’t have a contract agreed

Yeah heard some less that complimentary things being said about his mobility and explosiveness

Whether that's to do with the game being just a bit fast at the moment for him and still trying to process everything or a basic lack of top end football athleticism will be interesting to see

Also:

feck knows. I can't be arsed to work it out.

Yeah, I think they fecked up. He kneed with the ball in the field of play, would be downed at the 1 under prior rules, I think. I believe it's forward progress. It's where the ball is not the knee in this scenario, unless something has changed and/or I haven't a damn clue, which is possible.

The kickoff rules do say a kickoff landing in the end zone in the air can be downed for touchback or returned. Article 5 does mention the kick landing in the end zone and downed in the end zone, so I believe the correct call is downed at the spot of the ball and not a safety. Article 4 mentions "advance" and in this case the player didn't attempt to advance but downed it in the field of play. Unless there's some rule about the knee being in the end zone is part of the ball in this scenario, which vaguely does seem to be something I've seen/heard before.

I figure the league will streamline the rule on this sort of scenario before the season starts.

It's very tough to see the NFL thing working out for him. I don't think he has the acceleration or agility to be a typical RB. He doesn't have the raw strength to be a power back.

He has decent size, good top speed in the open field, and in theory should have good hands, but I can't see how he can develop the game knowledge/awareness/route running ability needed to be an NFL WR starting from nothing in his 20s.

I’d be massively surprised. Rugby players are conditioned to go for 80 minutes and do a bit of everything. The type of positions that he’s looking to play in the NFL are so specialised, these guys have been conditioned to be as explosive as possible from such a young age, not forgetting the level of training and facilities they have access to from a far younger age.

Not slating the guy though, he’s going to earn far more money than he’d be able to from rugby. I have a feeling he’ll be playing rugby again in a few years.

You're probably right. Frankly I can't be bothered to closely look at the rules for the kickoff now when I suspect they will likely change some of them before the season starts. I know the basics and that'll do for now.

Preseason Week 2
You're going to be seeing a lot of stuff online about the pass Mahomes just made in our preseason game.

Mahomes just pretty much reinvents football. The Cruyff of the NFL.

Finally got with to watching Receivers on Netflix. I’m currently on episode 3. I actually think it’s a really good programme. Enjoying it so far.
