NFL 2024 | Let's Football

That was the most exhausting game of my life. feck me. My parents are in town. My dad is negative as feck watching sports and my mother doesn’t understand football and constantly asks questions. Purdy got sacked and she asked “is that bad”…

Those types of people kill me. Some things are obviously good / bad, you should be able to context clue it out for yourself
Yeah like I get she was getting confused about me explaining clock mechanics and stuff but she really asked some stupid questions. How could that possibly ever be good.

Ravens lost so I can talk some crap at work too. Worried about this Commanders march and listening to my in laws though. If they’d lost I’d have half an eye on the two seed but we’re way too inconsistent and brutal games coming up so just need to focus on winning the division. The Lams/Cards losses really fecking us in the ass right now, we’d be sitting pretty if we didn’t feck those up

Bennie and the Jets would be better than Rodgers and the Jets

For my fellow random & useless stats & factoids nerds: if you held an opponent to <250 yds with no turnovers you’ve been 220 wins - 0 losses since a familiar QB experienced the Fail Mary…

Cowboys offensive play-calling is bizarre. Handing off to a FB on 3rd-and-5, asking your QB to throw deep into double coverage on multiple plays, and so forth. McCarthy should be dead man walking at this rate but I won't be surprised if Jerry awards him an extension. If not that he'll do something dumb like give the keys to Schottenheimer while letting the only assistant tracking towards a HC role, Al Harris, depart. I hope they go for Ben Johnson though I wonder what sort of control he'd want over personnel decisions as Jerry won't give up much. That's also why I can't see Belicunt going there nor do I see him desiring to deal with Jerry's middling and tinkering.

Don’t want to be overly dramatic. But I’m starting to think Rodgers and the Jets might not win the Super Bowl this year.

Brett Veach doing his thang. Traded for KCs 6th round pick in 2026.

I would guess that 3/4 of the NFL (players, coaches, ownership) and an overwhelming majority of the fans are MAGA supporters. At least 2/3.

Ownership fair enough, but players? That would surprise me tbh but won't pretend I know much about US politics.

DL drops into coverage and celebrates breaking up a pass with a seatbelt gesture to intimate locking down coverage.

NFL thinks it’s a gun reference and have fined him $14,068 for a “violent gesture”.

We're already midway through the regular season :( I think the playoff picture as it currently is, is already very accurate with a view towards the second half of the season. Only see the Ravens and Niners overtaking the Steelers and Cardinals respectively.

Playoff predictions:
AFC: Chiefs, Ravens, Bills, Texans as division winners - Steelers, Broncos, Chargers also in
NFC: Commanders, Lions, Falcons, Niners as division winners - Packers, Vikings, Eagles also in

That's 3 teams from both NFC North and AFC West so not sure if it's entirely feasible schedule-wise (probably is but harder than other scenarios). AFC I only see the Bengals with an outside shot and they probably need to go like 7-2 in a tough division, and NFC probably the Rams if they go on a run, or the Buccaneers (injuries though) and Cowboys (but they're very average).

Also, can anyone explain why the line for TNF is Jets -2 this week? Seems criminal with the way both teams are playing this season.

The Colts have benched Anthony Richardson for Joe Flacco

Makes zero sense whatsoever. You drafted him #5 overall knowing that the one thing he lacked most was game experience and actual meaningful reps, and now you're gonna bench him with a 4-4 record in favor of a 39-year old, with the best possible outcome for the season something like a Wild Card round loss while you still have no idea whether Richardson is the future of your franchise or not, but another year on his rookie contract will have gone by and he's a year older without a lot of additional experience.

Unless Flacco delivers them a Super Bowl this season, it's a mind boggling decision. Only counterpoint I can think of is that they want to evaluate the rest of the offense with capable QB play, and perhaps move away definitively from Richardson (already) if they believe they can compete with someone like Derek Carr or Sam Darnold under center next season (which they can't). But it really does more bad than good for your supposed franchise QB imo. He's made 10 NFL starts.

Richardson might go on to become good but the first two seasons have shown that it was an absolutely crazy decision to draft him that high. What the last few drafts have shown is that very few QB's are ready after college and so many of them like Goff, Baker and Darnold etc are playing their best 5+ years into the league. These are players who had insane amount of reps so to take someone with no reps was nonsensical. Niners did the same with Trey Lance

Clearly the Colts have seen enough and are cutting bait on Richardson. My only exposure to him this season has been from watching RedZone, but AR seems unable to throw accurately and has some of the worst body language I’ve seen for a QB not named Aaron Rodgers. Plus, taking himself out in a 3rd and goal situation prolly made this an easier decision.

Not disagreeing but I’ve been pleasantly surprised and impressed with Nix up to now, on that subject.

He’s evasive as feck, and shown himself a capable passer already. He had a bit of a rough start and has shone against some poor teams but he’s done better than I had expected and is showing signs of being worthy of a starting role for what could be a playoff team, even if we’ve no shot at much beyond wildcard weekend.

If even half of the “feck me how did he not catch that” situations had been caught he’d be looking even better, but that’s universal so can’t give too much weight to it.

Read an article saying that most QBs would do well to stay 4 years in college right now, find themselves a program that suits their strengths, get some nice NIL money in the meantime, and fully develop yourself before you declare for the draft because most (if not all) NFL teams have no interest in actually developing a QB for a few years. Packers might be one of the only exceptions to that rule, there's no way Jordan Love would've been able to do what he's doing right now if he immediately had to step into a starting role right away, but they made him sit and learn behind Rodgers and it turned out just fine. Even Mahomes sat for a year and then exploded for an MVP season in his sophomore year.

Richardson might just be bad but we don't know for sure yet and given the importance of a franchise QB in today's league, it's very worthwile to find out, so I'm not convinced at all that the Colts are giving up on him completely. If you don't have your own Mahomes/Lamar/Allen/Herbert/Burrow/Stroud, especially in the AFC, you're fecked anyway.

And I still hold the same opinion on Trey Lance who just never got a fair shot in the league at all but I know that I'm gonna die pretty much alone on that hill

Very few GM's and coaches have the job security in the league to develop QB's. Steichen probably knows that he will get sacked soon if Richardson is a bust and the team doesn't win either. It's akdu difficult to get the other players on board if the QB isn't playing well

Vikings have acquired Cam Robinson from the Jags. Good move imo, and decent Darrisaw replacement. Sports Illustrated already called it two days ago.

Texans without their 2 best receivers and the Jets have at least strengthened on paper recently with Reddick back and Davante coming in. Still think they're a massive underdog myself.

I'll be there at the game. The apathy is so strong with the Jets that there are tickets selling on Ticketmaster for $25.

The body of work was evident in his only college season as a starting QB - he completed 53.8% of his passes, a terrible rate in today's offensive systems and rules that benefit offenses. It was obvious he needed mechanical adjustments and much more. I questioned his sudden vault into the top five heading into the draft that is was a massive reach, a few of us in the threads were talking of this. They literally rated this guy on his measurables not his performances.

Really sad news about Chavarious Ward losing his young baby girl. Rip little angel and condolences to the family.

He also explains to Edelman how he initially got the job - had to audition for 5 hours on 8 randomly chosen NFL games from the past. Director called him few weeks later to tell him he decided he was their guy after only watching the first 10 minutes of the entire thing

 I might have to go and watch the whole episode

The Jets fans around me are not happy. Might have been the worst play I've ever seen.
