Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

Quality signing for a decent fee. I get the feeling that Hamburg is about to get their shit together for a change.

The comment was made, i learned, after Mou's Chelsea lost convincingly 0-3 against a Werder Bremen that will neither compete for first nor for second place - he is right about that. Oh yes, and it also was the referee's fault. Typical germans!

Yes, I have seen that interview now. Typical Mou, sore looser...

I still remember the newspaper articles in May 2012 - just 2 years ago - in which everybody told that the Bayern reign in Germany would be over... What a looser troop... No leaders... Then the Euros...

Only two years ago - that shifted to be the "Invincibles" until they lost against Real... The World Cup has changed that a little again...

In the Bundesliga every team can beat every other one on their day. In the last two years it was just the mentality of the Bayern players or their hunger or their believe in themselves that prevented that from happening against them. I have seen a lot of matches in the last 2 season where it was not very clear - in which a late Müller goal or lately Pizza or even Thiago have kept them from loosing. It is that believe to be able to still score and win that was missing in 2011/12 - when we did not score in the first half we seldom won - or if we caught a goal it was sure we would not come back.

The question today is if they can keep that hunger and that believe in themselves even in the "little" bundesliga matches. The club has persons that lived through times like this. Rummenigge's first year for Bayern was in 74/75 when his new teammates had won everything the seasons before. They did not have the bite anymore and just got interested for the big matches. His first Bundesliga match ended 0:6 in Offenbach...

We should really start selling our players to England. Müller is a very similar player to Lallana in terms of age, position, productivity, but the difference in price tags is ridiculous.

Nicolai Müller will join Hamburg, medical is tomorrow. Fee around 4.5 Million €. Very happy with the signing.
How do you like the look of the team so far? Pre-season games weren't half bad from what I've seen and read. Slomka's work in the 2nd half of last season couldn't have been encouraging, but how is the team playing so far in your opinion?

Muller has a lot more productivity, and from what I've seen he is levels above him and plays central attacking mid more like a second striker than Lallana who is just a more advanced midfielder imo.

He's talking about Nicolai Müller who moved today to Hamburg for 4.5m Euro, not Thomas Müller at Bayern? If you really meant Nicolai Müller here, then I'd say that would be really harsh on Lallana, who I consider the slightly better player out of those two.

As someone mentioned Hamburg... what do you think about Demirbay? He's done really well in pre season, think he'll be given a chance in the first team?

Oooo  my mistake!

We started pre season 3 weeks earlier so the players could make up their fitness deficit. I think Slomka is a good coach and it's important that he now has time to implement his ideas and everything. I''m happy with the transfers so far, if we also get a CB I'm confident that we won't have a lot to do with relegation next year. Pre-Season games so far were ok, I especially liked our style of play though. Can't read too much into it either but the situation overall is an improvement compared to the last few seasons. You really get the impression that there are people working for your club who know what they are doing.

Hopefully, yes. He looked very promising last year too but he got injured unfortunately. He could potentially be the successor of VDV in a few years.

If he's any good, he should replace him this season or do you really expect VDV ever to play anywhere near his peak level again?

He was good in the first half of last season, then he got divorced and his new girlfriend had a miscarriage… A lot of personal problems along with injuries in the last few months really didn't help him. He's looked really good in pre-season so I'm optimistic he can show what he's really capable of.
He isn't what he used to be but him combining with Lasogga in late 2013 worked really well.

Yeah, but still, the price tag for Lallana ist absurd. I'm nit even sure he will be a starter for Pool. Feckin' shit, Götze was just 6 Million € more.

He's a bitter cnut who just lost convincingly and is lashing out but he's not entirely wrong, is he? I mean no one will get anywhere close to Bayern this year and Dortmund are much more likely to get second than the rest of the pack.

Who knows. The gap isnt greater then in 2006, 2008 and 2010, when Bayern didnt win the league after a big international event. The PL has more top clubs but the Bundesliga had 4 different champions since 2007 too.
Not bad, really. But you are right of course, no top league has such a dominant team like the Bundesliga in Bayern.

Our CEO, Rummenigge, just confirmed it. Great signing for a Nr 2 keeper!

Yep. I'm a Liverpool fan but I think it's a good deal for both clubs. From our point of view he's on too much a week to have sitting on the bench* but that's not really a problem for you. He was a bit error prone in his last few seasons here but as a back-up I'm sure he could push Neuer better than Starke did, and his sweeping/distribution skills will fit Pep's idea of a keeper well.

*Whether Mignolet is better is arguable but rightly or wrongly Rodgers prefers him.

Great infos, thanks! Was he error prone because of injury issues? Do you know something about that?

It's hard to pinpoint why. In his last season here (12/13) he was injured a few times which didn't help but even before that he wasn't his usual self. Error prone is probably harsh though - he wasn't making many howlers, it's just that he wasn't saving shots he would have easily made before.

From what I've read he was a lot better at Napoli last season so maybe it was just a slump. Anyway he's a great influence to have around the team, it says a lot about his character that when we were being fecked by our owners it was Reina who was speaking out against them in public while Carragher and Gerrard stayed silent. The Spain squad speak highly of his character too.

That sounds great. You need good characters in any team. And with his career he will be respected by our guys. Seems a great transfer for me. And we take his money from you. Good for you.
Liverpool and Bayern in the same CL group then.
Wouldnt mind that so. Anfield is a special place. You will never walk alone gets me every time.
But anyway; wish you all the best in this years CL. Thanks for your help.

Yeah it's hard to see the transfer going wrong, given that you have Neuer as first choice. Knowing Pep, Reina will only play in the DFB cup games or if Neuer is injured but he'll understand that and won't get upset about a lack of playing time. I'm sad to see him go because he was a great servant but it makes business sense.

Cheers. It's cool to dislike Bayern these days but I like them so hope you do well too, big fan of Guardiola especially.

Neuer could do with a bit of a rest every once in a while. Reina would most likely start the Pokal games and some BuLi/CL games at a stretch. Still, he's miles better than Starke and that gives me reassurance. Not a bad player to have as a back-up keeper I guess.

Just came home from a short trip to Breslau in Poland watching the BVB against Slask Wroclaw.

First of all, I have no idea what the stadium announcer took before the game, but he went completely mental in the game and the fans responded accordingly. Very impressive atmosphere.

As far as the game itself goes, Slask is certainly not a team full of world beaters but still a decent side. To put it in perspective probably on the same level as a top side in the second league or a small Bundesliga team. They had the advantage in terms of condition, because they are already in full rythm and the Dortmund players had to overcome the harshest training session of the season yesterday. Overall it was a good game to gauge the current form of the team.

I´m normally against falling into real hype on the base of pre season games, but the first 30 minutes was simply some damn fine football and after a calmer period the pace picked up once again around 60 minute mark when the subs truly got into the game. On paper we played a 4-2-2-2, but there was no set formation in the front, because the offensive four interchanged constantly and created a fluidity in our game, which I have not seen for quite a while. Losing Robert Lewandowski did cost us peak quality, but it also opened the possibility to become more unpredictable again. Too often did we rely on the Pole´s individual class, which made us easier to defend against.

Involved in basically every attacking play was the best player of our pre season so far: Henrikh Mkhitaryan (one goal, one assist). I said it when we signed him and I still firmly believe it: the guy will become an absolute monster for us. He has just the right skill set to excell in Klopp´s team. He appears to have finally beaten his biggest opponent, which was himself. It might have been because of his high intellect that he overthought things and put a too heavy burden on himself, which made him struggle in terms of consistency. If he stays fit then he won´t be as underrated as he is on here for long.

Another player who really stepped up his game is Aubameyang, who really flourishes in his new role as second and roaming striker. All of the new guys found ways to impress. Immobile did what he was bought for and converted his one clear cut chance into the 2:0 and Ramos had several good scenes including some very nice build up play and finishing for the 3:0. Both Ji and Ginter showed promise and are raw diamonds similar to Hofmann who impresses me time and time again with his decision making for his age.

All in all, this game made me really hyped up for the clash with Liverpool on Sunday, which will be my first visit of the Anfield. For once my job worked for me sending me to England for a week just at the right time.

He's having a very good pre season. Scored a lot of goals from what I can tell.

Couple of challenges were a bit over the top though, don't know if he'd have lost his shit if Bayern had won.

He would have. The referee from the start did not really go against harder play even if for Bayern it was a friendly.

Pep did not play Ribery and Badstuber because of the pitch and the injuries they had before. They had to play the World Champions because of contracts and they brought them in. They flew away from Munich in the morning (12 hours flight) stayed some hours in Portland including PR dates and played this 10 minutes without prior training after 3 weeks of rest in which they were supposed to get totally off football - for them it was 4 a.m. in the following night after being awake about 22 or more hours. Bayern did it like this as they wanted them to have their full 3 weeks holidays and they tried to not get them into having jetlags returning to Munich. Bayern flew back to Germany short after the matches.

Unless you are Guardiola, you wouldn't know that though. You can make a guess, but you can't be sure.

For what it's worth, I hate to see players injured on friendly matches, especially when one team all of a sudden thinks it's good to play it like a competitive match. On the other hand, Bayern did sign up for this, tickets were sold, people came to watch the match. It's a bit of a shitty situation, maybe there was problems in communication between the two teams on how competitive the match should be. Guardiola wanted a 'revenge match' next year in the press conference, which sort of made it look like he was railing against the result.

Bad press is also press. And people know Pep. Being (rightfully) angry will do him and Bayern no harm in the US.
Pep was right. You can challenge the world cup guys in the upper body. Why go to the knees and so on. Everyone knew about their situation(no training for weeks, up for 22 hours and so on).
Bayern played fine and people will talk much longer about Bayern and the game this way. Fine with that.

To me it looked like he tried to downplay the whole incident and more or less said that he'd be happy to play again and that there isn't any bad blood between him and the opposing player and coaching staff, just like he said that he shook hands with all the players and also later with the manager in the tunnel. A few of the tackles were too hard and Pep's reaction at the end of the game was clearly over the top, but I don't think the result itself was the problem. The 'revenge' part was really more a 'We'd like to come again and give overall a better show' comment in my opinion.

Apparantly Rummenigge already stated that we'll travel to Asia next year, which kinda sucks in my opinion. If we go back to the US in two years it'll be again without most of our top players after the Euro. We really should play another big friendly in the US to make up for this game, with all our top players available to contribute and we should do it as soon as possible, maybe during the winter break? I doubt it's as bad as some believe but it's not pretty either and as the start of a strong marketing campaign in the US, it really sucks to look like sore losers, well done :( .

Some must really turn it down a bit. It was a nice game, a bit of drama and that was it.
A great promotion tour overall.
Was really happy to see the buzz Bayern created. The world cup was the last step. Our players are legends now.
Not sure about the Asia thing, but there are billions of people to reach. Trust the board there.

Anchan, your optimism honors you but it's reaching dangerous fanboy levels. Not meant as an insult, just saying that you should take things with a pinch of salt now and then.

The US-tour was a start, nothing more. The crowds were tiny compared to what the other big names are able to attract over there, which is to be expected, but I don't think a couple of PR meetings, a borefest against Guadalajara and a loss against the All Stars with a tantrum throwing Pep - as much as I understand his reaction during game time and even though the hand shake incident was and will be blown out of proportion - constitute a "great promotion tour". It was a start, nothing more.

The ones who want to label me fanboy because I have a positive look on the world can do that. I dont care.
You are right of course. Its just the start.
But we also have to take the circumstances into consideration. The team played in smaller stadiums and the opponents werent Real and United.
You will have fewer buzz then. But to have 3000 people at a training seassion without most of the stars, having ESPN 1 showing the game against the Mexicans and then the sight of Bayern fan clubs from all over the US is great to see.
We had Pep, Beckenbauer and a team full of stars and superstars. A bit of drama too. The US media and public had Bayern on their minds for days.
I count that as a great promotion tour. We have to keep that up and do much more, yes.
But a very good start for me.

I'm sorry, you couldn't be far away from the truth. Reactions were mainly negative, especially with all the positive coverage for the Real Man Utd match. It's all right if you don't care, and if you think everything's great, but it's not true.

It's not the end of everything though, you can come back next season and it'll be a clean slate.

I think Bayern would want to plan an exclusive US Tour with some good amount of thinking put into schedule, opponents and locations. US Pre season was a resounding success for other clubs in the ICC Trophy, Bayern got left out mainly because Germany won the WC and this season they were like the afterthought after the festival. I'm pretty sure next season or the next when Bayern comes to town, it'll be different.

Man Utd, Real and Liverpool were the three biggest winners of the promotional tour this season in US, IMO.

The club are going to China next year as they are opening a new office there. I like Balu's idea about going over to the US during the winter break. Not sure if they'd be able to face any decent opposition as the MLS season is on at that time if I'm not mistaken, but they could still use it to generate some good publicity. Unless Pep goes mental again!
