Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

Clever jinx to make sure we'll win the game. You should thank me.

I don't think there are in Bundesliga games on BT/ESPN today, I'm guessing Pep is playing funny buggers with his formation and selection again?

We scored a goal on the counter attack. Miracles do happen

And feck these short range ball to hand penalties.

Paderborn and Cologne still unbeaten  . I'm also delighted that Wolfsburg is already far behind the top teams, would love it if they they finished out of the CL places again. Gladbach - Schalke is really interesting now. Schalke could turn a bad start into a very good one with a win today.

You used to be the best team in terms of counter football in Heynckes last year, way superior to us despite being a counter orientated team. What a monster of a team that was....

Not a Bayern fan :nono:

Damn, sorry, mate. So used to just interact with Reds on here

Mainz fan, right? Good taste.

How did our lad Hofmann do?
Not really a matter of taste. Born here, live here, it's just natural.

Hofmann was good if you take into account the fact that he's had about two days of training with his new team mates. He wasn't that well integrated into our attacking play, but he worked hard defensively, had some good touches of the ball and made good runs. I'd call it a promising performance. He was also played on the left, whereas he played on the right and in the middle for you, right? So it was a new position, as well.

Schalke also has a ridiculous number of injuries. I knew it was bad, but didn't know it was that bad. It's crazy how much luck Leverkusen had with injuries in the past 3 years in comparison to the other 3 top clubs.

And somehow I still expect Gladbach to make that next step with Favre in charge, but they really stagnated in the last years. Probably just wishful thinking because out of all our rivals in the past, they were the only team I really liked, but I'd love to see them fight for titles against us more than any other team in Germany.

Goretzka still injured?
For another 2 months. Draxler and Meyer are also not fit to start. Farfan and Huntelaar are two more injured key players and there are more, a lot more.

Good finish. André Hahn with a great start this season.

Cheers for the summary.

Yep, it is. Gladbach is even with their rich history not in the position to grow financially enough to really make a stand at the top for a long time. As soon as their top players become targets of bigger clubs, they have to start over again and in difference to their competition they have a harder time replacing them. Schalke has their top notch academy, Wolfsburg the money and Dortmund simply the way superior full package. In our case they are even numerous players like Reus, Kagawa, Mkhitaryan, Immobile or Aubameyang who turned down financially better offers to come (or in some cases return) to us.

Sorry, mate, but it seems that you are stuck with us for a while :p

Although I could manage without the medial crafted level of rivalry.....

They spent a lot in recent years though if I'm not mistaken. I was always surprised how they kept buying talented players. If they manage to keep Kramer, they have a very strong foundation. Yeah, they won't challenge for the league, but maybe they can go on a great run in the EL or win the DFB cup once or something like that.

Nah, 6 Mil. € net spend over the last three years is hardly a lot.

I do like them aswell, though, and support them on International stage the most together with Hannover. If they take the EL seriously they could make an impact there. I prefer that over Wolfsburg doing well there any day.

A cup win for such a team is always possible.

Gladbach are having a really good game today. Schalke's defence is quite poor.

It seems like the Bundesliga have really cracked down on people posting highlights on youtube.

Watched the game at the Olympiastadion today, as I work for Hertha from time to time and can only confirm your views on Hofmann. Didn't know that he could work that hard defensively, as I only know him from Dortmund as a player with a lot of attacking potential. Couldn't really classify Mainz before the game due to the bad start and without Tuchel, but I really sympathise with your team for some years now. Mainz is the perfect example of how to establish a promoted team over the years with intelligent people at the helm, good youth policy and smart transfer business.

Even though I would say that Hertha was the slightly better team today in terms of effort and optical superiority, Mainz played a really clever game and were ruthless in attack. It was just typical for Allagui to score on his debut as he always does, but really bitter for Hertha that he haunted them after his season long loan. I must admit that I'm a really big fan of Johannes Geis, who seems so composed and mature for a player of the age of 21. I don't see that much live games from Mainz, but I expect him to receive a call up from Löw (who was present today) over the season. What do you think of him?

@Cro

Geis is a magnificent player. We bought him last summer and he went straight to the starting eleven (partly due to a Baumgartlinger injury). Played consistently well and was one of our best players last season. His defensive awareness and tackling are very good, his long passes are excellent, he has great composure and shooting technique. Still needs to use it better and score more goals, as well as iron out some flaws in his short passing game. You rarely get a central midfielder of his quality and consistency at that age.

Sadly, I expect a big club to snap him up next summer. Maybe we can hold onto him for one more season. Not sure if he'll get called up for the national team in the near future, we're pretty well stocked in central midfield. It's probably better for his development to just get games in the U21s.

CL is what you need to be a big club in Germany. Only my Bayern and Dortmund are locked on the CL places right now.
And Dortmunds story from 2008 shows that you can get there right now. IF Gladbach work hard the next years, have a bit of luck then who knows.
Always remember a Kicker story from middle of 2013, where they showed how strong Gladbach revenues grew the last years and how smart they invested it.
Gladbach is in the West, the football crazy region. I have them on my map.
The Bundesliga will get a strong top3 in the next years. Wolfsburg,Gladbach,Schalke,Leverkusen or even Leipzig; someone will work hard enough, invest heavy and get the needed luck out of these clubs.
Im happy when that happens. The league needs that to take the last step to the PL.

3 months out :( . At least it's not the knee, but still, so incredibly unlucky.

We'll see to how much it tallys up. Not quite buying the three months. But I'm pissed with the overall medical situation, that's for sure. Don't think that at one point in the last 2 years we had all players fit.

Edit: At least Thiago will be back soon. And Robben is fit again

hamburg is just a big accident. They are lacking any desire to win games, confidence, determination, motivation. Hard to say anything positive about them. They should consider to sack every single player and field a amateur team.

At the moment I think it would've been better for Hamburg in the long run if they got relegated, learnt their lesson, and started from scratch. Instead they're continuing right from where they were last season.

They haven't scored a single league goal this season so far, either.

Bollox

They've said the same about 1860 Munich 10 years ago and now they're still in the 2.Bundesliga with the same off-field problems

Its bollocks, because the financial hit is way too hard. The bundesliga doesnt have any parachute payments. Hamburg is already running red figures in the first league. If they get relegated, they would be on the verge of a financial collapse. Their budget would be so tight, that no manager/DoF will have any room to operate. Every problem, that you have in the first league is getting just 10x worse in the second. I just looked at their squad and talents excluded, they have 2,5 players that are worth having. Thats lasogga, müller and Adler (who is overpaid). The rest of their players are toxic, bad, perma-injured, overpaid, irrelevant or a combination of those attributes. Its really sad.

I see. I've only fairly recently started following Bundesliga so I didn't know. shame.
