Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

Hummels look mentally checkout here. Klopp should strip him off the captaincy and leave him out of the team if this carries on

Breaking news!

After the incident Spahic was involved in after their cup match against Bayern, Leverkusen have terminated Spahic's contract. Serves the cnut right.

Spahic is the biggest cnut in world football, worse than Costa, Balo, Barton, Ramos you name them all. The number of times he got suspended in France for violent plays was ridiculous, I thought he was going to calm himself in Germany but really it is who he is.

I like Spahic, but he is really an idiot.

Stuttgart take the lead and in this moment, Hamburg is bottom of the table again .

I've seen the whole broadcasting. What are you missing?
i thought the user was referring to another incident, rather than the actual match itself (or so it seems). nevermind. cheers!

And the rumours "Tuchel to HSV" are getting stronger and stronger every day.
Or not .

How about someone they've already fired once before instead. Bruno Labbadia is the new manager and gets a 15 months contract (until summer 2016), no matter if they play Bundesliga or 2nd Bundesliga next season.

Hamburg & Stuttgart, I can't tell which club is run worse really. Both deserve to go down for sheer incompetence, it's beyond ridiculous. It's totally incomprehensible how big clubs with a wonderful history and tradition can be run in such an awful way. They should compete for titles.

I'm also starting to wonder if Tuchel overplays his reputation a bit at the moment. Yes I rate him very highly. But other than doing a great job for a small club and qualifying for the EL twice, he hasn't done anything of note. He now fecked up the chance to manage Schalke, Hamburg and Leipzig. He won't get a bigger job than those three in the summer and it might be difficult to find jobs with more potential longterm in the next few years anyway.

Maybe he really considers going abroad?

Surprinsingly not the bombshell of the day.

Jurgen Klopp has asked Dortmund for release from his contract.

A break, Barcelona, City?

It's 5 minutes old, I'm sure it becomes the bombshell of the day if Klopp/Dortmund don't deny it soon. So far only Bild is reporting it, it's nothing official. If true, Tuchel's future would be pretty obvious.

edit:
Bild also reports that Klopp wanted to leave Dortmund last summer, but they didn't let him out of his contract and that Klopp wants to take a year off and then look for a new challenge abroad. Seems a bit far-fetched in my opinion, but we'll see.

Well if you consider what happened after he left (was fired) at both clubs, he might as well claim to be a coaching genius. The Hamburg years in retrospective were pretty good, especially when you consider he worked double duty as a coach and sporting director in that hellhole. Now they have a coach and like five sporting directors and they are still not even close to his results. When they fired him, they were in 6th place and alive in the Europa League semifinal.

They were 7th with little chance to make the Europa League spots and totally collapsed in the 2nd half of the season. They were also awful in the first leg of the EL semifinal against Fulham, a 0-0 draw at home. Labbadia took over a very good Hamburg side, that finished 4th and 5th in the previous seasons and invested a lot of money in the summer (Elia & Berg for example). He was the one who started the downfall, in my opinion. The fact that Hamburg went from bad to worse after him doesn't really change that. At least that's my impression of Labbadia's 9 months at Hamburg, maybe @gofelx can share his view, would be interesting.

Bruno, even if he is not one of the praised new guard of concept coaches, is not that bad how people tried to make him. He might have an image problem...

What is going on today?

Hamburg rehiring Beautiful Bruno, who certainly isn't the worst coach in the world, but to do it after all their public flirting with Tuchel and two interim coaches to prepare for his arrival is just ludicrous. Par for the course for HSV, to be fair.

Klopp leaving Dortmund is even bigger news (if it's true). I didn't expect that at all even after their awful season. Honestly, I thought Klopp would want to be the one to rebuild them and get back to their former level. There's the next obvious Tuchel destination at least. Klopp to take a holiday or take over City?

The news about last summer seems BS to me too. First of all they probably would've reported it a lot sooner if they knew about it and I still don't see Klopp as someone who would sign a contract and then look for another job right away.
On the other hand Tuchel to HSV seemed all but done and since I don't see Hamburg refusing a coach like Tuchel a last minute offer from a bigger club seems like the most logical explanation.

Tuchel obviously rejected Hamburg after Dortmund made their interest known.

BVB press conference at 12:30AM, English time.

Wow.

Would be a huge shock. Could be a big change for the BVB in summer. Can see Hummels, Gündogan and Reus all leaving if true too. I hope he doesn't end up at City, I like him, doesn't want to hate him.

Pretty much. He´s a hard-working demanding coach with a general idea, who is lacking a bit in the tactical flexibility and people skills. I also think he´s a pretty good talent scout. Plus he´s already shown with Stuttgart that he functions as a rescue operator. Btw how hilarious is it looking back that they fired him for being unsuccessful as an alive EL semifinalist and 7th place in the league.

BVB press conference. Guess that means Tuchel for Klopp. Curious what that means for the future of Hummels and Gundogan. Tuchel has an excellent reputation and if they have grown tired of Klopp, it might actually increase the chances of both staying.

At least the timeline of the story makes sense:

Hamburg wanted Tuchel. They were close to agree for next season. Then Klopp asked Dortmund for permit to leave after this season. Hence Dortmund approached Tuchel. Tuchel preferred Dortmund over Hamburg. Hamburg hired Labbadia.

I guess the press conference pretty much confirms it. There's not really a reason for one otherwise. I can't see Dortmund letting Klopp out of his contract for free though, whatever club wants him should have to pay. And his contract runs until 2018, so even if he takes a year off he still has 2 years left on his contract.

But if he leaves for the EPL that should not be a problem...

I start to wonder whether Tuchel knew that Klopp was about to leave, maybe even already last summer... Poor HSV, they mess up whatever they touch.

Hope he's not going to City. He's one of my favorite managers and I'd hate it if he took over such a shit club.

Maybe he can coach City for a year, while he learns Spanish for Barcelona. :D

You might still want to have them in the Bundesliga... just for the entertainment...

If they are in second they are just not so much in the media anymore... like e.g. the turmoil that is 1860...

I absolutely want them in the Bundesliga. It's just ... I'm almost without words to describe it ... nothing works for them. Maybe they are cursed until they finally end up in the second league.

Probably not, more money to spend for Tuchel though.

He´ll have it, but I don´t even think he needs the money. I think he can challenge Bayern Munich with the current squad. Sure Lewandowski and Goetze are real special talents, but this is the deepest squad Dortmund ever had, and virtually EVERY player has underperformed this season. They all get a clean slate with him. I think Klopp and the team were burned out and just the coaching change will bring a severe increase in their performance level next year.

Tuchel was the one that brought Geis to Mainz and gave him his breakthrough. He seems a very likely candidate, especially if Gundogan leaves. Don´t think that´s much of a downgrade.

They already have three very capable defenders in Sokratis, Ginter and Subotic to handle a potential Hummels departure. Tuchel likely has another name in mind, if Hummels leaves as well.

That depends more on Bayern declining, which is bound to happen soon. As long as we continue to play 85 points or more seasons, no one will challenge us, but there's no way that we'll keep performing consistently on such a high level. The question is just how soon the cycle for this team will end and how the transition from the Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Ribery, Robben core to the new one works out (injuries will probably be the biggest factor).

We'll see how far Tuchel can go with this team. If Wolfsburg can keep their team together and maybe even strengthen it a bit, they are closer to challenging us than Dortmund. It'll definitely be a fascinating season next year. Gladbach & Wolfsburg should benefit from the CL money and strengthen their teams. Leverkusen & Schalke should be able to invest and strengthen around their strong core of young players and Dortmund even without European football still is the 2nd or 3rd richest club in Germany. They probably need 1 or 2 key players to add something different to the team, Geis replacing Gündogan is defintitely an excellent shout. If they miss out on the Europa League as well, they gain another advantage. Less games did help them a lot in the 2nd halfs of the 10/11 and 11/12 seasons.
