Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

i salute the bald lord of the sith for this early substitution. a somewhat bold, yet understandable move.

I'm definitely worried. Leverkusen have been in excellent form and we miss half of our treble winning starting line-up (Robben, Ribery, Schweinsteiger, Alaba, Martinez are all injured). Thiago is not fit enough to start, Lahm will only start for the second time since his ankle injury and overall we haven't been in good form since the winterbreak. Alonso has to start again and he has been truely shit for months now. I don't expect a great game and hope Leverkusen will bottle it again, even if they have a chance to win the match.

Unless something really surprising happens, that should be our line-up
Neuer - Dante, Boateng, Benatia - Bernat, Alonso, Lahm, Rafinha - Götze - Lewandowski, Müller
Knock-out match. They would have a chance even if Bayern would be on full strength.

Thanks. Decided against it in the end(Was going to betting on a cheeky Leverkusen win) and put bet on Gladbach winning in 90 mins :(

What was the gesture from Guardiola towards the bench about?

I doubt that this was tactical. Rode was not even warmed up and two docs followed Benatia.

sure, i rather meant the fact that rode is obviously not a 1:1 substitution, as alonso moved even further back into the defensive line of three, while rode gives a bit more, erm, direct dynamics to bayern's clearly lacking game play.

Badstuber isn't fully fit though. Could have been too big a risk to sub him in, if it's not certain that he lasts the remaining 60 (maybe with extratime 90) minutes.

so are there no other CB's at hand, at all? no promising, somewhat stable U23 lad or whathaveyou? none?

i mean why have badstuber on the bench in the first place?

(i'd say the subsitution may have been spontaneous, yet as well a more or less urgent tactical tweak after only 30min)

Martinez is still injured, usually you get through a season with 5 centerbacks. Throwing some youth player with no first team experience into a cup quarterfinal away at Leverkusen is an even worse idea in my opinion. And Rode has done well so far for us, nothing wrong with playing him and adjusting the tactics a bit.

Well, that was rather dreadful.

Thats the problem with this kind of tactical set up. It sacrifices control and creative edge for stability and basically only capitalizes on mistakes of the opposition. If it works it is seen as a tactical masterstroke, if it doesn´t you have wasted strengths of certain players.

These type of games were usually the stage for Götze to take over the game and create things, but he is not in the necessary form to do so right now.

Bielefeld rocks the penalty shootout so far, calm and smart finishing. 1 more and they're through.

Jinxed it

/edit:
.. or not. Gladbach is out. Bielefeld goes through, a team from the 3rd league in the semifinals.

Won´t be there for long, though. They rock the 3rd league this season.

Lewy still gets the most ridiculous offense fouls called against him.....

my body is now ready to watch some of that cheeky little bugger thiago's magic.

So Spahic can kung fu kick Lahm in the ankle, but Lewandowski can't brush against a defender's shirt.

One of the greatest myths of German football is that this cúnt is still allowed to cripple other players.

Ohh close Leverkusen, Neuer saves

 Battle of the keepers, now Leno

Lewandowski frustrated and who can blame him.

Thiago, make us happy!
Lahm and Alonso were both pretty insignificant.

leno is second to neuer when it comes to german GK's. i do rate leno quite above ter stegen.

He had a pretty big jump in his development this year. Prior to this season he was one of the most inconsistent keeper of the league. Undeniable talent nonetheless.

THERE HE IS!

i find thiago ridiculously great. i may have a man-crush on him.

It would be very interesting to see this go into pens with these keepers. More stressful than usual for any player taking those.

Seems like Zweier is about to lose control over this game a little.

I can't blame you for thinking like that because I know he is a cnut but still, I absolutely like him.
