The great Mike Dean said it was a “genuine attempt at the ball” aren’t 99% of penalties genuine attempts. Also he said the bar is higher in these games which sounds very strange to me. It’s a penalty or it isn’t and that was a penalty.
If it’s a genuine attempt at the ball that makes it worse and it isn’t a bleeding “coming together”.

So stupid, idiots tie themselves up in knots.

Thats exactly what he means and its complete BS. Referees sometimes allow a little more before cards come out in the big games because they don't want to ruin them early and they understand the stakes and the jitters the players might have.

You don't ignore a stonewall penalty in the meat of the game though because its a big game. Thats just BS. I reckon 75% of penalties given this season are softer than than one. That was a penalty every day of the week.
Just last year Højlund was deemed to foul Rodri(?) in the box. Obviously that sort of contact wasn't a penalty for the rest of the season.

Part of his recent improvement is understanding how strong he actually is. He is actually starting to use his body and power, he still has a long long way to go, but he clearly is very talented and has the potential to be a leading striker in the PL.

Mike Dean on Sky commentary piped up with.

"I don't think that's enough, not in a game like this mate"
What which game has to do with the decision! Rule is rule. So they bend the rule for certain matches!!

Feels like he's just needed the right guidance on how to best use his attributes and hasn't really been getting it till recently.

It’s why refs are shit. Follow the rules, and stop making shit up. Nobody wants to watch a bunch of wankers spoil the game with inconsistent calls.

We should all know by now that referees apply different thresholds for different games, bigger games usually require a more lenient approach in terms of fouls, penalties, red cards etc. It just comes with the same inconsistent approach. The Dias tackle on Hojlund is a penalty, but
they could also have given a penalty against Hojlund in the first half, but didn't.

Did decent yesterday. Should have had an assist for Bruno and won a penalty that we where robbed of.

Was better than Haaland yesterday

His wrestle with Haaland? If that’s what you’re referring too it doesn’t compare at all with the Dias incident

Yeah. It doesn't compare, but it's more of a penalty than the one Rodri got a year or so ago. On another day another ref/VAR (Oliver) might give that.

Agree with this. Didn’t think the one last year was a penalty (based on usual standards) but felt he was a bit lucky to get away with yesterday’s, with the ref looking right at it.

It was a dive, to be fair. The very last bit before he goes to ground is a textbook dive.

Still a definite penalty though. Hojlund obviously not yet as skilled as the Kanes/Sakas of the world when it comes to convincing referees they've been fouled.
For me a dive is when you throw yourself without being touched or only a little. If this is a pen, and I agree it is, it can’t be a dive imo. Hojlund has learnt from last season that he needs to go down if he wants any chance of a penalty - should’ve have had a couple when he stayed on his legs. But it seems not to fall naturally to him which is sympathetic.

Apparently Hojlund dived according to our resident expert

Dermot can barely defend it. He knows it's a penalty but can't go against the referees. Which makes his whole stint on TV pretty fecking pointless.

I love the absolute shock of the presenter though.

Goals, should have assists, and a penalty, drive, aggression, all in the last few games. It's not bad for a young striker at his age. Get him in there with Diallo, get a rapport going, they're both young enough.
Agent Rasmus is already on the case

I can disregard his performance for that insta post, and the fact that he didn't chicken out and delete
Why would you disregard the performance? Was good.

The insta post better.

Love how he takes no rubbish from anyone. The last couple of games we’ve seen a different side to him. Amorims developing him nicely. His link up and control as improved massively

I think it's more of a modern and VAR penalty, than in older times, still could be easily called.
At first in real time I thought it wasn't, later I would have given it.

The real bad part, it's for VAR that normally calls the refs for the slightest thing, that can nulify a goal for a little foul in a prior play one minute before, would not call the Ref for this play.
If they did that, the ref more than probably would have call it.

PD: Rasmus made a meal of it, but without the talent to do it, that late dive created the sensation from the Refs angle that he was going for the foul. He needs more lessons

Tottenham 4:3 Man Utd New
Piss poor tonight, as is par for the course against half decent opposition

He needs binning. Admit we made another expensive mistake and rectify it quickly rather than arroganty persist

Just remember this time last week how posters were getting ahead of themselves after we beat Viktoria fecking Plzen.

This guy is bang average.

Poor today. The better version of this team needs a CF that does so much more. Think Isak. Hojlund has a very narrow skillset that’s still Work in Progress. He’s also very inconsistent at what’s he’s good at.

Aye! If we got a decent offer for him in Jan or in the summer I wouldn't be averse to selling. We can't be having an apprentice leading the line for man utd.

Looked very clumsy up top, the ball got tangled under his feet way too often. I was encouraged by his performance against City, but here he resorts to default settings and looks like a clumsy worse version of Lukaku without the strength and hold up ability.

Very concerning that he seems to only look like a genuine threat when against lesser opposition
