Copa America 2024 - Argentina Win

Really wish they’d ditch playing any of these matches in Santa Clara.

It’s a horrifying stadium to be at during the summer. Like being in a furnace with no chance of escape. I went to a United match there a few years ago in July thinking I could handle the heat and I had to watch the game on tv from the bar under the stands.

And he scores as usual for Uruguay.

Has scored 9 in 6 consecutive games so shouldn't complain.

But... I'm sure you've experienced that frustration, with the upside you still have Salah and can bring on Jota when it looks hopeless.

Try sitting in the upper bowl at MetLife (formerly Meadowlands) in July. We - a Brooklyn Jew, an Englishman from Rugby, a Brooklyn Italian, and a pale Texan (me) - went in a collection of pale dudes and came out looking like lobsters.

First game I've catch for the Copa (Colombia vs Paraguay) and its so stark how much worse the quality of this football game is compared to the Euros. Not just the technical quality of the players, but the tactical discipline and shapes of the teams as well.

Maybe, but Colombia are unbeaten in 24 games since February 2022, including wins against Brazil, Germany and Spain.

Wow that's super impressive, especially looking at their squad. Perhaps I just caught a sub-par game.

Why is Dorival Junior wearing an old tracksuit with four stars on the badge?

Edit: ahh it's a Zagallo 98 tribute, classy

I simply cannot understand how Paqueta is the best creative midfielder Brazil has to offer.

Brazil really struggling to break down Costa Rica. For some reason they are playing with two defensive midfielders in Bruno G and Joao Gomes, when Costa Rica have ten men behind the ball.

What’s interesting is that Brazil’s starting midfield is three players from Newcastle, Wolves and West Ham. If you said that 15 years ago, people would’ve laughed at you. Just shows the power of the PL these days.

Vini looks like a different player for Brazil. Just won’t click for him, and Raphinha is the same nothing player.

65 mins in, corners 8-0, shots 12-0, shots on goal 2-0. All Brazil, but nothing clear cut yet. Paqueta pinged one off the post from distance.

Raphinha and Joao Gomes out. Endrick and Savinho on.

Edit: Actually looks like Vini and Raphinha went off. So still inexplicably playing with two DMs at 0-0 in 75th minute. And they’ve taken Vinicius off.

Brazil just have no creativity at all. Only way they look likely to create chances is through athleticism out wide. Paqueta is the only player that looks like he could pick a pass.

Savio put clean through on goal, a little wide but clean through, and refused to shoot. Just waited and waited looking for someone to pass to.

Brazil need to stop hiring Brazilian coaches at this point.
Been saying it for over a decade now. The fact that a bunch of no-name Portuguese coaches started coming into our league a couple years back and immediately ran rings around these clowns should've been a huge wakeup call.

I like this ref. He would be undermined in the PL by the way VAR is setup in the league though.

Brazil were truly awful. Costa Rica shut them out easily. Ronaldinho wasn’t wrong. Laughably bad performance. Doesn’t look like Brazil at all.

As others have said, they need a proper coach. The team just had no ideas at all. Everything relied on individual dribbling.

Just like the Tite era, we can control possession but can't break down an organized defense. Too predictable.

In reality, apart from Spain and Germany on their first matches and the first 25 minutes of Holland vs France, I didn't see such fantastic Euro teams and matches...sometimes I feel like it's like by default how much better the EPL teams are above any other league or the Euros, while on the field it doesn't look like such a huge diff.
