Copa America 2024 - Argentina Win

I can understand why they enter the stand to protect their families - most of us would. But that doesn't change the fact that they can't be allowed to do it.

But at the same time - you can't exactly ban the entire Uruguayan team either. So I feel they will make an example of the worst culprits and let everyone else off with fines. How involved were Pellistri and Ugarte ?
no...the main culprit was Nunes

I did a slow frame scroll and it did appear the Colombian's shirt pulled forward as if by Suarez's teeth. Something is totally f'd in his head to resort to biting in moments of rage, he surely has some sort of disorder or illness.

Did the same definitely looks like it don’t know why else you burry your face into someone neck or shoulder area.

I like to think when he was a kid he saw the movie Lost Boys and has been chasing the dream of being a vampire since.

Bielsa having a massive rant against Commebol/US in his press conference.

Pellistri is among the investigated players (11 in total), he was in the stand with his father, I didn't see him doing anything though. Ugarte is clean so far, her mother fainted during the disturbance but I guess he kept his cool.

Varela was sent off after the match finished, funny because when he came in for bentacur I thought he would see the red card eventually... I thought I was wrong when came off... I should trust myself more.

Everybody: If you can find bielsa press conference with subtitles, take a few minutes to watch it, he was rabid and charged against everybody

He really went off one one, I almost felt bad for Youtube's translation feature!

On the possible sanctions to his players: “The other day, I made a point that the media should not question anyone when they have clear evidence to draw conclusions on their own. The reason that triggers a reaction is part of the interpretation being made of the reaction being evaluated. How can they ask me that when the only logic prevailing is that there were mothers with babies in their arms, women, sisters, mothers, attacked by spectators; the protection of the spectator has nothing to do with the spectacle?! What they should be asking me is whether the players have received an apology for not safeguarding their families. How could I fear a sanction that is impossible to happen because families were not well protected! The only thing I can say is that the players reacted like any human being. When you see there is a disproportionate act or a violent reaction, the first thing to consider is what prompted the reaction. All that matters to me is that there should be a procedure in place so that when someone sees their mother, wife, or baby being attacked, there is a way to prevent it. Do I have to be the one talking about this topic?!

On FIFAGate: “This couldn’t be clearer. In the United States, when they felt their interests (FIFA giving the 2022 World Cup to Qatar over USA) were under attack, they created the FIFAgate. Here, nothing happened; it was an extraordinary celebration with stadiums full. There’s nothing to complain about. But we can’t hold a press conference just to say that the playing fields are not fine. Where has there been any evidence to claim that the players were forced to do this? And now we have to be afraid they might impose sanctions? The last thing we need is for them to impose sanctions. This is a witch hunt. It’s all shameful in a country that, as the organizer, has responsibilities, but I’m sure they haven’t lied (about the situation of stadiums and security)”.

On Journalist who often sell a narrative: During the press conference Bielsa had words with Uruguayan reporter Rodrigo Romano, Bielsa was visibly angry when Romano left the press conference, Bielsa took it as “acting for the cameras”: “Journalism responds to interests and caters to what is convenient, to power. There’s a portion of journalism that is fair and another portion that is bought, catering to the interests influenced by power, which prompts money. Since I’m not stupid, the first thing I said is that I don’t know in what proportion, but there is a percentage of journalism that doesn’t say what it should and another that says what it shouldn’t”.

On possible acts of vengeance by Conmebol: “I am very afraid of sporting reprisals. They always threaten us in terms of sports. The messages they sent us: we couldn’t defend their families and we can’t allow them to escape, so what kind of sanction are they talking about? What needs to be said is how long it will take for them to apologize. How am I supposed to address this topic based on the question? I want you to put yourselves in my place. We are being threatened. So I’m tired now. Holding press conferences to say the fields are perfect when they are not. This is a plague of liars. Scaloni spoke once and they told him not to speak again. The players cannot speak. Everyone is threatened. And the unions do not close ranks. They are all mistakes. The Americans made a mess with the training grounds. And Bolivia didn’t train. Of course, it’s Bolivia. And then the penalty that wasn’t called against Brazil. You already know everything that this is, man…”

The Colombian legend tren Valencia saying Messi and Di María are easy to mark now? Perfect, giving Messi and Di María the extra burst they need just like Van Gaal & Van Basten did at the WC

Day 19 - Match for 3rd place - Uruguay v Canada
Day 19 - Match for 3rd place - July 13

Uruguay v Canada - 1am UK time

Standing ovation to Bielsa's words. This Copa America's organization has been a complete disaster from beginning to end. Regarding the end, in the final the half time break will be extended to 25 minutes in order to allow Shakira to do a mid time show Super Bowl style.

It’s bad enough you lose when the other team is down 1 player. A draw? Sure. But you just lose.
it felt like they went back to Tabarez days playing instead of how they had been playing. Of course I can give credit to the other team. Columbia is just better and Nunez is not reliable.

The players should have let the authorities take care of this stuff. Now we get the usual and continued Uruguayans are thugs. Fed up with that being the main thing a lot of people talk about. Heard enough of that from several US fans who said they should have been given a red somewhere in that game they lost 1-0.
Never saw any red possibilities just more yellows. At least 3. Never mind that you had to win 4-5 to nothing to advance. Uruguay are thugs.
anyways. At least Ugarte kept his head and look forward to him in Man Utd.
playing for 3rd in Copa is like kissing your sister with tongue.
I can deal with it at the WC because of the better comp. But the Copa is not the same playing for 3rd.

No way this is true

It wouldn't even be the first time they go against their own rules at the Copa. In the inauguration the leader of Alejandro Domínguez (President of Conmebol)'s church made a speech about God and Jesus, which is not allowed according to FIFA rules. CONMEBOL leaders have always been corrupt and (bar some exceptions) incompetent, but this generation took it to a whole new different level.

It is, these people are fecking mental.

At least historically all the corrupt stuff was pocketing money and occasionally affected refereeing and game outcomes.

This Copa has reached an entire new level, from the way the fixture was set up to players having to wait an extra ten minutes at half time so that all those fans who came to see their team win can relax a bit shaking their booty to Shakira.

Game's gone.

After my musings and the critiques they got in the first page, I am no longer on the fence about “how I feel about this”, it’s exactly what I imagined, shite.

When you remove the history of the Copa, it’s worthless and cheap.

This is really, when one delves into the pattern of the international game, no surprise. There just isn’t much quality in depth in the central, south and North American region. 90% of the games are going to be pretty low quality, and when you factor in the corruption, the utterly bizarre refereeing, and how ridiculously dirty teams are, it all makes for the wrong kind of spectacle.

We should really be ahead here.

We are winning the ball at will but can't make the most of it. Uruguay at times have caught canada out, however.

Very impressed with Canada, not seen them play before. Ismael Kone has been the best midfielder on the pitch.
