Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

Augsburg has the advantage of playing just in one competition - and after a rather bad start of the season they have been very consistent. They have been already very consistent last season, too.

Schalke probably does the right thing in that league. The way of pressing and counterattacking makes it difficult to play good football without falling into the trap and they now found a way to be less vulnerable. Last year they even tried to play football against Real - and we know how that ended... It will get better when their injured offensives come back.

Do you feel Augsburg can genuinely get that 4th spot? What was their result today? It woulds certainly shake things up if they achieved it.

Yeah, I think Di Matteo is looking for stability and making the team hard to beat, once he has that aspect sorted and gets a couple of his attacking players back he might even out the balance between attack and defense a bit in his approach to games.

Augsburg lost 3-2 in Bremen and they have an awful lot of injuries at the moment. I don't think they can finish top 4, I'd even go as far and say it's more likely that they finish outside of the top 7. If they continue to play well, they should finish 6th and play Europa League next season, that would already be an incredible achievement for them. More than that would really be a huge surprise.

Nice to see Bas Dost back to his form he showed at Heerenveen, he scored something like 39 in 40 games there, always thought he would of been a decent option for a Premier League team

Back story? What on earth is going on in that?

Afaik:
-Gladbach vs Cologne is one of the more prominent rivalries in German football
-Gladbach beat Cologne with a last minute goal (which was the result of a wrong free kick decision) and that video was taken right after the final whistle,
-looks like some of Cologne's fans (the guys in white - probably one particular fan group, which already had a bad reputation to begin with) wanted to start a pitch invasion/riot
-unfortunately for them the rest of their fanblock did not follow them
-so when the police arrives they try to get back to their block in order to hide in the masses
-meanwhile some Gladbach's fans have decided to answer the call for escalation and "fight back", who then beat up the couple of Cologne fans who didn't make it into the fan block

Unfortunately this isn't the first time that Cologne's fans have done something really stupid like that: the club was already on probation from an earlier incident and as a result they are probably facing a very hefty fine and one or even more matches without home support.

Freiburg and Paderborn with away wins today, the mind boggles. Looks awful for Stuttgart now, so I fully expect that they beat Dortmund on Friday to keep the relegation battle interesting.

I see, so how small a club are Augsburg considered in Germany? Say compared to a relative team in the PL. Looking at the weekend's results that Wolfsburg/Leverkusen game sounded incredible, Leverkusen are so leaky at the back that I think it may cost them the top 4 spot.

You could compare Augsburg to Swansea. Both got promoted to the top league for the first time in 2011 and managed to stay in the league and establish themselves as midtable clubs despite working on a small budget.

Who is who?

I can see Martinez (left), Pizarro (next to Martinez), Lahm (middle), Alonso (next to Lahm), Robben (right), Dante (next to Robben), Neuer (bottom right) and Rafinha (bottom left).

I bet its Schweinsteiger between Pizarro and Lahm. Not sure though. It's probably Hojbjerg between Dante and Alonso, no?

But who are the other 2 (bottom mid and top)?

Pretty sure it's Götze and Alonso next to Lahm. Maybe Rode bottom centre?

Schweinsteiger is the one behind
Then Martinez, Pizzaro, Götze, Lahm, Alonso, Reina, Dante, Robben
In front Rafinha, Rode, Neuer

Hm yeah could very well be Götze and now you call it im sure bottom mid is Rode. But i have no clue at all who is on top of the picture. And i am right with Hojbjerg, no?

Schweinsteiger is the one on top. And Pepe Reina is your Hojbjerg....

It appears that Julian Green asked Hamburg to be released from his loan contract after being relegated to the U23 team. Not boding well for his Bundesliga carreer.

Nowhere near ready for Bundesliga football yet.

Btw he wasn't relegated to the U23 team, he just got asked to play a few matches there.

The problem might be that even if he would piss of the Bayern officials he will fall very softly into a good contract in the MLS. And I do not think that knowing that is so good for his development

Monday night games for Europa League teams would make a lot of sense. Don't care about boxing day. I don't mind that the players can go home and celebrate christmas with their families and I doubt it'll become a huge success in Germany.

What's with those rumours that Khedira will sign a contract at Dortmund this week and join them on a free in the summer? Wouldn't he want to earn a lot in wages? Probably as much as Reus does? God I hope it's true, then I don't have to be nervous about us signing him anymore.

I dont think that he would be a bad signing for Dortmund. He would fit in well, if they continue with their "gegenpressing" tactics. They would be able to pay him a decent wage, because they dont have to pay a transfer fee. That said there are/were lots of rumours around Khedira and I wouldnt take them too serious. Media already said, that he is on his way to London (arsenal/Chelsea) and Munich.

Do Dortmund not have enough injury prone players without adding Khedira? He picks up a fresh injury every time he plays for Christ sake.

Isn't it just his agent floundering him around? He was heavily linked to you lot not to long ago, remember? Now it's Dortmund. Pretty sure his agent is just trying to generate interest in him.

At one point, he has to sign for someone though.

@Sean_RedDevil

I wouldn't mind a monday game at all. More money from tv deals, an extra day for recuperation for the EL teams and something to kill a boring monday evening. Sign me up. It wouldn't be brilliant for the match goers, especially fans that have to travel, but that's something we should be willing to accept.

Boxing day, however, should stay football free. Give those guys seom time to spend their holidays in peace.

What rumours?

Monday Night Games (for the EL teams) + football on Boxing Day in the future

Would the german fans like that??? @Balu @Piratesoup @gofelx @Blackwidow @OutlawGER @do.ob @Sphaero

Monday night will be a terrible time for the fans. If they want to create additional slots I'd much rather see a game Saturday/Sunday 2 hours before the 15:30 game or two fixtures around 18:00 and 20:00 (CET) on Saturday evening.

Don't like the boxing day idea either, because I believe that the winter break is a big advantage for Bundesliga teams and our national team and a cold winter could easily turn that day into a fiasko.

And I thought Monday would get attractive with the match of Dortmund on Sport 1 live next season... just kidding...

And only the hardcore football fan (and that already watches the EPL then) would be interested into boxing day football in Germany. It just does not have any tradition. And - boxing day is a christian holiday in Germany. That is a big difference, too. The churches would run riot. All shops are closed, trains have special schedules and the people that went home or to their families over the holidays are on their trip home. I just cannot see full stadiums then as we do not have the milder English climate either.

What rumours?

For months, rumors that Khedira will sign, already has signed or might sign for Bayern in the summer have been popping up again and again. Makes me shudder.

Yeah, but he was talking about rumours that linked Khedira to Dortmund and I haven't about that yet.

I'm sure I did read it twice yesterday. What's weird is that I can't find anything about it right now, so most likely it was just plain nonsense.
