Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

It really looks like those awful 45 minutes in the first leg against Copenhagen cost Donati his place in the first team for now. Haven't seen enough of Jedvaj to comment if he's good enough to play that position longterm for Leverkusen, but he has been solid against Dortmund and Copenhagen so far.

A move that seems to have paid off. Leverkusen have had a pretty good start to the season overall. Jedvaj is only 18 so to be solid against teams like Dortmund in particular is great. To still be starting says something either about him or the alternative (Donati).

Is Lars Bender injured?

I see Jedvaj is starting again for Leverkusen tonight in the Champions League. How has he done so far in this new rightback role? And what's up with Donati? Is he injured or just left out completely for being awful in a game and being replaced by Jedvaj? Seems to have disappeared since that happened.

In my opinion Jedvaj has been nothing short of amazing when I've seen him! He bursts up field for Leverkusen's pressing game with ferocious power and determination and he's their right back. Great signing, offers a lot more than Donati offensively!

Not 100% fit yet after his injury prior to the world cup. He's back in training though, can't be too long till he's back.

Thanks both!

Follow Leverkusen this year Damien, they'll be a good team to watch. I've watched all 3 games so far.
Looking that way. Lots of promising youngsters and they've made some good signings this summer. Schmidt has them playing some good football so far as well.

Think I will do. They weren't that great last year (not against us anyway at least), but the signings they've made along with their new manager makes it look like this could be a much better one for them.

Where the feck have reports of Alonso joining Bayern surfaced from? Came out of nowhere this but I guess it makes sense with Kroos there now.

That would be a weird signing. Don't really mind him as a stopgap with all our injuries in midfield, but he shouldn't be anywhere near the first team if most of our players are fit and I'd like to see Gaudino and Hojbjerg on the pitch a few times.

Aye, they've got much better squad depth this season.

Depth, which was not tested yet, though. There is no doubt that Leverkusen is right now in the best shape among the stronger Bundesliga teams. They have by far the least amount of injuries and had a way more comfortable pre season due to their small amount of WC players. The squad does have a lot of potential in general, though.

And while Schmidt´s pressing approach has been exciting to watch so far it certainly needs refinement. Right now it is way too aggressive and too focused on the ball, which leads to two problems. The first and more obvious one is that this play style in the current form is simply not substainable. This could be already seen vs. us, when they ran out of steam after around 60 minutes. And this was the first league game of the season. Imagine them playing that way in the middle of the season with 2 games per week. The second problem is that the extremely aggressive nature results in a lot of fouls and several of them being of tactical nature. This could hurt them especially in Europe.

The problem of Leverkusen was always the mentality. They always had times in which they looked so promising. But then... Even worse than Schalke...

Leverkusen have scored so far a goal in all four games during the first 4 minutes.......could be a good bet for their next game against Hertha Berlin ;)

Yeah they're looking very good so far....but i would be shocked if they're playing like that for the next weeks......1-2 losses in a row and they're the same Bayer Leverkusen like in the past

I get scared of Leverkusen on matchday 33 when they are on rank 1 with more than 3 points advantage... Even three and a big goal difference is not enough...

It was just Waldalgesheim (6th division), FC Copenhagen (Not even champions of Denmark) and B-Team of Dortmund (No Hummels, Subotic, Weidenfeller, Gündogan, Bender, Schmelzer, Sahin, Ramos, Kuba and 100% fit Reus)
Many people in Germany are overrating them now!!! Too many!!!.....yes they are playing very good and nice football....but i agree with you that Leverkusen wouldn't even win the title in your case......the mentality is in the club since 20 years

I'd imagine Leverkusen will eventually be tired of their own intense pressing game as the season goes on and drop off to around 3rd-4th as usual.

They look promising so far but similar could've been said of them last season 10-15 games in.

@RedSky

I remember that you were asking me about Demirbay. He will be loaned out to Kaiserslautern (2nd Bundesliga) this year. I really rate him but I think this is a good move for him. He has to play as much as possible and with a lot of contracts running out for a lot of our first team players in 2015 he will get a lot of game time next year I think.

On loan? Argh! Full season loan?

It looks like it. Means I'll watch some Kaiserslautern games if I can :)
There is no option to buy though so he's definitely coming back. VDV is in very good shape at the moment and Badelj and especially Arslan looked good in the last few weeks. There are even some rumors going around that we might be in for Holtby. Overall Demirbay wouldn't have got many chances and it's really the best for him to play week in week out.

Matchday 02, 29/08/14 - 31/08/14
Dortmund just went 1 up against Augsburg. Wonderful goal by Marco Reus.

Augsburg look like they're playing in slowmotion once Dortmund get the ball.

2:0 Sokratis. This could turn into a massacre. Shocking defending from Augsburg.

Great start for Dortmund (and my bet on them :D), playing some great stuff.

I should really watch more Bundesliga games...I say this at the start of every season though.

Großkreutz ruining nearly every Dortmund attack
