Bundesliga, DFB Cup, and other Bundesliga business 2014/2015

It makes sense today though, he's suspended for the game on Wednesday against Donetsk.

Yeah, lets give him that consolation and change half the starting XI again on wednesday... Alonso deserves it.

Rode is a poor fecker.

Good grief, Dante... he looks more and more out of depth. Thank god for Holger Badstuber.

Catastrophic defending... how can this team suck so much?

Hannover up 1:0

@Balu @Piratesoup have you guys followed Baba a bit? How is he doing atm, could he play at a higher level?
He's doing really well in my opinion. Not sure if he could play at a higher level though. I'd describe him more as solid and reliable than really special, but then I haven't watched too many Augsburg games and 20 years old is still very young for a fullback.

Dante and Alonso are just passengers and I don't really understand our line-up. It looks like Boateng is playing rightback and Rafinha in CM, which looks stupid on paper and shit on the pitch.

/edit: 1-1 at least Alonso can still hit a decent freekick. Doesn't involve running I guess.

The one thing Alonso can still do is score cheeky freekicks. Thank god.

Pep is losing touch with reality, I feel. It's getting weirder and weirder with every game. We can still thrash teams like Paderborn or Hannover once we somehow score the 1:0, but on the whole since the winterbreak we look sluggish and idealess up front and much more shaky in the back. I just can't tell what Pep wants to accomplish at the moment.

Lewandowski for Dante. Now THAT is a substitution I can get behind.

I'm pretty sure Dante will be gone in the summer. What's with Benatia by the way? Still not fully fit? He has been a bit of a pointless signing so far and Badstuber looks more impressive since the winterbreak and if Martinez returns, playing time will be even more limited.

Alonso has 2 weeks off now, good for him. Suspended for both the CL game and the next league game. Maybe that's exactly what he needs.

If we play like this on wednesday, we're in for a ride. No shot on goal from open play in 45 minutes. Considering what a genius Pep is according to everyone, it's become quite easy to neutralize his grand schemes...

We scored 18 goals in the last 3 league games. A bit too dramatic maybe?

It is funny to see the comparison between us and Bayern. It is the same 'philosophy' but if you cannot get a high ball tempo than it isn't that hard to neutralize when the opposition shows disciplined defending. It is possible to wear them out during the game, but still that does not give any garanties.

On the other hand, if you do get a high ball tempo, you can absolutely destroy your opponents.

Maybe. I've always been the pessimistic type, but 14 of those 18 came against Hamburg (need I say more) and a Paderborn that was completely done after the penalty + red card that led to the 3:0. And even in those games, we looked dreadful until we got the lead. It's about time to gather some steam and I just don't see it. We can thrash everybody after going up, but at the moment we too often can't even create goal chances as long as the opposing team stays compact and avoids risks (*cough* Paderborn's awesome offside trap before the 1:0).

Even Braunschweig held us at bay by for most of the game by just staying disciplined...

So, one shot on goal from open play, one goal... apart from that pretty damn dreadful.

I enjoyed the Mainz/Gladbach game yesterday, was particularly interested in seeing Geis and Xhaka. The latter looks a decent prospect for a midfield enforcer but really rash, and Geis is kinda like Blind but with the passing and set-piece style of Becks.

Yeah I'm not too sure what to think of Xhaka, sometimes he's brilliant, he is a great long passer and a good free kick taker, but in some games he loses concentration and makes simple mistakes. Add to that that he's often on the verge of getting sent off.

Geis has been great this season, every top club in Germany will be after him in the summer.

Xhaka was nicknamed baby Schweinsteiger or something I recall, and he has a lot of potential to emulate his game, but he needs to cut out the Cattermoleism as he'll be considered to much of a risk for bigger teams IMO.

I could see Bayern going for Geis to play where Alonso does in Peps current system.

Ujah celebrating with Cologne's goat... :wenger:

Why is there a goat behind the goal? He's going to be in trouble for that though, the animal rights brigade will want blood.

DFB-Pokal quarter-final draw
Leverkusen vs Bayern Munich
Dortmund
vs Hoffenheim
Wolfsburg vs Freiburg
Bielefeld (3) vs Mönchengladbach

Favourites in bold, which could make for very stacked semi finals, including the four strongest German teams at the moment.

Really happy with that draw. Home game vs. a doable and for us favourable opponent. Leverkusen-Bayern certainly the closest match on paper.

Would love to see

BMG v BVB
WOB v Bayern

semifinals into Klassiker final Bayern v BVB.

I would prefer if Bayern would play the real Klassiker against the real Borussia...

Yeah yeah you and your bitter hate. Must be hard to feel so much hate. ^^

But no, that final would be boring as feck. Apart from BVB and maybe(!) WOB there is no serious enemy for us in Germany. Of course it is slightly possible to lose in Leverkusen but if we play at our normal level then there's no chance. Same for BMG.

What does that have to do with my "hate" for Dortmund. There is no "Klassiker" in BVB against Bayern. The Klassiker - if there is any - is Borussia Mönchengladbach against Bayern. The big old 70s.

And a final is a final and has its own rules. I am just tired of that BVB matches. The same rhetoric, the same excuses, the same bad loosers as every year...

But actually I would really like a Bayern-Wolfsburg final. First against second at the end of the season. Would be fine.
