We knew he was weak in several aspects of the game, but he has not even been good with the ball, which is supposed to be his strength.

So, why was he bought.

Nah, he's a lot better than Barthez. I don't think Barthez could even kick it long. And he was tiny too. And more erratic. That being said, Onana has not been good enough since he arrived. A decent start to this season but he's making too many mistakes again. Obviously not helped by the constant changing in the backline, which is the one part of the team I'd prefer Amorim not to rotate so much.

Whilst I don't think he's good enough, I think one decent player in any position in this team will not look a decent player. The team is too mentally frail, too physically weak, just so many issues.
While Barthez made more glaring mistakes, Onana makes more in quantity and costly mistakes. I don’t think there’s any other goalkeeper in the league who makes as many mistakes as him. And some good performances cannot mask disasters like that.

I think he started really well this season, which is his second season. Barthez, if memory serves, had a settled back four in a team that knew completely what was required of them led by the greatest manager in the history of the game. If I had to choose between a peak Barthez and a peak Onana, I'd choose the latter every day of the week.

Shite.

He'd just won me over after I'd written him off and then he's immediately turned to shit again.

He's a clown and yet another terrible signing.

It's going to take a really long period of good goalkeeping, before I start trusting this guy again. Looks like a dud. Put in about a third of a season of solid performances before the mistakes crept back in.

At this level you simply cannot have a keeper that costs you so many points.

7 points from 5th - a good keeper makes up them points and keeps you in games you don't deserve to be in. Onana does the opposite.

I've never rated him but when he's actively costing us points, you can't ride it out and declare 'he is the least of our problems'. First position I'd change.
He's had some poor games recently, but what you're complaining about him not doing is very much what he had been doing this season.

A bit weak for the goal, but also a bit impeded perhaps. I am more surprised that we haven't improved at defensive set pieces at all since we got rid of De Gea. That was one of the main things that bringing in a new goalkeeper should have improved on.

He’s absolutely shite. I’ve absolutely no confidence in the team with him in goals.

Even though it’s different keepers, to concede the same crap goal twice in just 7 days is really special.

Can't shake the feeling that since coming there is just more vulnerability. Very nice guy and has looked assured recently but overall, we have tanked. Seemed to take him a season to settle and look focused and agile enough. A better setup then yes, since we're up against it and United are a big scalp we needed a younger fitter commanding keeper.

I feel Amorim would like to swap him out but everywhere you look it's expensive write-offs.

How on earth do you conceede more than one direct corner kick goal in your career, not just in few weeks? How is that even possible at professional level?

Even if he was our best player this season that is unacceptable.

Edit: my bad, I somehow remembered the Arsenal one as direct.

We have to get a new keeper in the summer. Soon as he makes a mistake he become a complete mess and you get a string of mistakes.

When was the other one?

feck me, we have truly a disaster of Goalkeeper, one is worse than the other, sell in January.

This is our price to pay for the hubris with the De Gea contract situation. Of course Dave should be second choise, he was declining the last 2-3 years but Ten Hag really set us 30 years back with his fecking choices.

2 goals on 3 games from direct corner, omfg

My bad, I somehow remembered that he conceeded one against Arsenal. It was close, but not direct, but pretty close to direct in my defence, it went right through him without any reaction.

Keepers are thankfully far less expensive than outfield players.

Could we just pluck one out from Spain? They're all pretty much good on the ball (unlike Onana who was supposedly brought in for that reason), and I'd wager it wouldn't be hard to find one who's also a decent at not conceding directly from corners.

His save for the Strand Larsen header was hilarious, you could see the look of disgust on Maguire’s face that he tipped that over for a corner instead of catching it or at least parrying it before saving.

He’s a joke of a keeper but we need so many positions that he’s just tolerated for the time being but no serious person views him as reliable option long term.

Nah. Trust is gone for me, I don't give a f**k if his next 30 games are perfect, I won't ever fully trust him.

But let's face it, what are the chances of him going 30 games without any howlers?!

He better get used to it now cos every corner or free kick we concede is coming down on top of him.

Because most of the transfer logic under ETH was have you played under him or played in the Dutch league. The worst thing is the clown could have signed Gakpo, Gravernberch, Timber and Kudus, who all would have been better.

Inter were laughing at us because they signed a better goalkeeper on the cheap. Yes, Sommer was older, but as there were not many world class GKs about, we could have signed him on the cheap and waited for a few years.

Next summer, Liverpool will have 3 GKs who are better than our current number 1.

As far as I can remember, Barthez had a good first season, and a shite second season and beyond.
At least at all times, he looked like an athletic keeper, despite his limitations of size

Onana started the season well. But there's always that element of him being too heavy and slow to get down etc

Perhaps the reason him and Bayindir are so fecking hopeless on corners is because there’s no fecker in training who can beat the first man.

He’s going to get some defence because a foul could have been given anyway, but I’ve never seen a Goalkeeper not named David De Gea deal with a situation like that so pathetically. You have to force your way out and force them to foul you to keep you in, and instead he just stood there pathetically accepting his fate.

That's the bit I don't get. How are you going to let people just sidle into your six and dominate you like that? Knees and elbows out, maybe a surreptitious rake down the Achilles. They need to know if they come into your six, they're going to get bruised. Let's see if the ref has the balls to call that. But how can you just sit there and take it?

Funnier that you see people on here saying “what a save” and the likes. Literally every premier league keeper should be saving that, I think so many of his saves that look good are really just routine that he’s made look harder than they were.

He’s useless, he’s always been a bit useless. He’s always made mistakes. He held it together at Inter for a year and they took us to the cleaners, literally anyone who watched him a few times could see this one coming a mile away, unfortunately we’ll have to get a cheap replacement cause we’ve too many other problems to fix. We’ll do well to get half that £50m back for him
