Defended him all of last year and 1st half of this year. He cannot be united long term keeper. Makes me so nervous. His judgement of balls coming in is atrocious. At the end, the cross that came in, right next to him and he let's it go, unbelievable.

I think he has probably guaranteed a new keeper being signed in the summer now, we simply can’t have him as undisputed number 1 next season. Someone like Trafford or Garcia will be brought in as genuine competition.

I didn’t have high expectations when we signed him and thought he was worth half that but the big selling was his distribution and even that’s not every good.

So we bought a keeper that was suppose to be good at playing out from the back yet all his long balls either go out of play or to the opposition. Still makes dodgy saves.

Not a big fan of Trafford.

Not a big fan of Trafford.

He’s looked a lot better this season but of course has some question marks. That is the sort of market we’ll be shopping in though, can’t afford not to have competition for Onana but can’t shop at the top of the market either.

Yeah, the you are lost.
You honestly think that’s a good outing? He did nothing that any half decent goalie can’t do. His boxing is weak - other goalies hit the ball 20-30 yards. We are lucky if it escapes the 18 yard box.

His save for the weak shot is terrible parrying, again. Must be one every match by now.

His distribution was woeful.

He had a period of good form earlier in the season but really his ball playing attributes are overrated and in no way make up for his poor goalkeeping. He is lacking the fundamentals it seems. I hope we are at least looking at bringing in a GK in the summer. He's had his two seasons to prove his worth.

How is making a piss poor parry irrelevant? It could easily have cost us. Unless you think he’s a wizard and instead of giving a corner he fooled Martinelli into engaging? If so I hold my hands up.
It's irrelevant because it led to nothing, due to the offside. I'd give more of a shit if Martinelli wasn't offside. Either way, he's often parrying shots into dangerous areas and should be replaced.

It’s not irrelevant because it highlights a serious flaw in his game. It must have happened ten games straight. It’s only luck when they don’t go in. Terrible basics

But we are all aware of this flaw. It isn't going to change. In this instance, it was irrelevant due to the offside.

It’s a shame he’s reverted back to type and he was pretty brilliant in the early parts of the season. That parry near the end out to Martinelli was dreadful.

Ultimately it’s a disaster signing because we should really be looking to get someone else in already and ideally your looking at signing a keeper for the long haul at 50 million. Hasn’t shown anything of what was meant to be an upgrade on De Gea.

It’s not irrelevant because it gives teams incentive in later moments of the game/future games. It also must put the fear of day into the defenders and surely affects how they want to defend?
It didn't lead to a goal or a legitimate rebound. That was my very simple point. I was only pointing out the obvious. No idea why it's provoking so many responses.

Martinelli was offside, so it's irrelevant. Either way, I'm no Onana fan. Just disagreeing with the idea of dropping him for Bayindir.
You were though, weren't you? I swear I remember you being incredibly pro Onana and it took ages for you to see what most others have seen for ages. All the while you knock our best player (Bruno) whenever you can.

Absolutely I was pro Onana. Why wouldn't I be? Our previous keeper had been poor and our new keeper came fresh off a terrific performance in the Champions League final. I dispute the "took ages to see what most others have seen for ages". The reason why is because everyone deserves a season. A bit of a grace period. Even this season, Onana performed well up until the Forest game in December. Since then, there have been far too many mistakes for my liking. Understandable, no?

I have my issues with Bruno. I find him incredibly frustrating and I didn't agree with the club bowing to his wishes and improving his financial terms. However, in the absence of Amad, I feel that he has stepped up recently and clearly been our best player. It doesn't change my thoughts about him though.

Hope you're ok with that.

I think he’s been shite and I can’t wait for Bayindir to be fit

I am not sure I’d class him as the biggest issue to address this summer though

I think Liverpool with Onana in goal every game still walk the league. And Onana in a good team and confident looks better.

Bought him because he was a ball playing 'keeper, he's the absolute opposite.

Sell in the summer.
I reckon we bought him because he had the same agent as ETH.

Agreed. I'm nervous whenever he does anything. As soon as he comes forward for a cross, I'm hoping a defender will beat him to it before he can slap it down for their striker to finish.

When he played for Inter, his distribution was amazing, hence my excitement to sign him. Boy, was I wrong! To be fair to him, everyone has been shite so far so it doesn't help .
Tbf how many times had you seen him play for Inter? He had a decent run towards the end of the CL
But I bet week in week out in Serie A he was a laughable. We’ve all seen the clips of his mistakes prior to joining us. He is and always has been and always will be a charlatan.

What’s he actually good at? I thought it was meant to be sweeping/passing. He is clearly shit at that. So is he genuinely good at anything?

Worst goalkeeper I've ever had the misfortune of watching regularly. Severely lacking absolutely everything except handsomeness. I know I keep saying it, but goalkeeper needs to be our number 1 priority for a rebuild. Moreso than a striker, even. Ship this clown out ASAP

McTominay, De Gea, Lukaku playing with/against each other in Italy. Thank God there's Serie A as their clubs bought decent number of our players over last 6 years or so.

It was time to replace De Gea when we did (honestly it could've happened in few years before that as well) but Onana definitely wasn't an answer, that's clear. He's capable of some great saves but like De Gea - error prone, not dominant in his area and poor distribution - which is the worst as the whole point of buying him is to have a GK with better distribution.

Not sure Amorim will go another year with Onana in goal. But am worried if we'll be able to sell him for a fee that's big enough that we don't have a loss/negative PSR (or whatever it is) from his transfer.

I personally have never seen it with Onana. The priority for any goal keeper is at first to be good a saving shots it's in the position job description. Playing out from the back should never be a priority to sign a keeper in a team that doesn't keep possession succinctly.

I would sell Onana in an instant if a team is interested in his services.
Told people in the past that Spain in Xaviesta era, were a successful possession based team, with Iker Casillas as Gk. They had Victor Valdes, a much proven ball playing Gk, but still went with Iker just because Iker was the better goalkeeper at stopping shots.

I took notes on posters in the past, that pushing agenda that ball playing Gk would change this team, instead of getting a good CM or striker. And since then can't take their opinion seriously on football issue.
