It's Monday morning and I can't be arsed at work.

The Onana mistakes compendium

The Howlers

Bayern 4 - 3 - Man Utd
(09/23) - His first proper howler as he lets a really tame shot from Sane squirm under him.

Man Utd 2 - 3 Galatasaray (10/23) - Passes the ball straight to a Galatasary player who runs through and gets hacked down by Case. We're down to 10-men and the Pen is missed, but they go on to win anyway.

Man Utd 2 - 1 Brentford (10/23) - Let's a tame, pea-roller from Jensen squrim under his hand and into the middle of the goal. Poppadom wrists stuff.

Galatasaray 3 - 3 - Man Utd (11/23) - Judges Ziyech's first fee kick all wrong and basically dives out of the way of a low shot that ends up going into the middle of the net.

Galatasaray 3 - 3 - Man Utd (11/23) - To redeem himself, he at least gets in the way of Ziyech's second free kick but just throws the ball into the net instead.

Man Utd 4 - 2 Sheffield United (04/24) - Passes the ball straight to Bogle who scores

Man Utd 1 - 1 Burnley (04/04) - Punches Amdouni in the head to concede a last minute pen - which they score.

Man Utd 2 - 1 Man City (05/24) - We don't really talk about it because we won the Cup Final, but letting in that shot from Doku was a shocker

Man Utd 2 - 3 Forest (12/24) - Inexpicibily lets a straight shot from Gibbs-White straight into the middle of the goal

Plzen 1 - 2 Man Utd (12/24) - Passes the ball straight to one of their players who squares it to Vydra for a tap in

Wolves 2 - 0 Man Utd (12/24) - Concedes straight from a corner from Cunha

Man Utd 1 - 3 Brighton
(01/25) - Possibly his worst ever one, spilling a routine cross collection at the feet of Rutter who puts it in.

Bonus Content - Not mistakes as such, but a couple of the classic "You feel like he could have done something better there" Onana moments

Man Utd 3 - 2 Forest
(09/23) - Awoniyi races through on goal and Onana basically just sits down in the middle of his net and lets him walk it in. Rubbish.

Man Utd 1 - 3 Brigton (09/23) - His positioning on the first goal is a bit shit, but I'll let that slide - the 3rd goal from Pedro though, is at a very saveable height and not in the corner, he actually gets two hands on it but 'cos his spring is rubbish he just palms it in.

Man Utd 0 - 1 Bayern (12/23) - Coman is 8 yards out and is 95% going to score, but Onana just basically stands on his line and makes sure it's 100%.

Man Utd 3 - 2 Aston Villa (12/23) - Doesn't anticipate or really do anything to stop a McGinn free kick go straight in. Tricky because there's players in front of him but a keeper with top class reactions does something at least.

Chelsea 4 - 3 Man Utd (04/24) - A bit unsighted, but he lets a low Gallagher shot under his hand.

Palace 4 - 0 Man Utd (05/24) - A pretty central, but strong shot from Olise beats him.

And there are still some more debatable ones I've let out (Like the one this weekend, his weird positioning for Salah's goal at OT or for FC Twente's goal at OT this season).

Alll of this in a season and a half, it's beyond a joke that this bloke is our number one goalkeeper.

I remember many ETH's supporters here was saying that he was the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle. He will instantly transform our build up play from the back. Improve our possession with his distribution and excellent ball playing abilities. Allowing us to play highline to also transform our attack. Basically, single handedly transform us defensively, possession play and attack.

The rest, as they say is history.

It was an extreme over correction to De Gea's flaws. People were convinced that a ball playing keeper would revolutionize the build up after De Gea being subpar in that aspect for years. Yes, you need your keeper to be solid on the ball these days but that should be in addition to traditional keeping qualities.

Onana is decent on the ball but not much more and his shot stopping, especially on low shots were he struggles to get down doesn't make him the success needed.

He is not terrible, wouldn't be the first priority to be shifted but he will need to be if they can identify a better option.

True and this is what I think whenever anybody singles out a player who will apparently transform us. People have been saying the same thing about Dorgu recently like all we need is a new LWB to score goals.

It's a team game and you need a majority of players to fit a system which takes time to build. The rest is hype.

The mistakes in Europe really hit hard. We actually played decent. We created many chances. Onana was the #1 reason we didn't progress from an easy group. I thought we played Bayern well.

How dare you claim that it was claimed at the time that Onana would "transform" our buildup play! However many times I documented the fantasy that made its way into the heads of quite few club supporters, I was flogged for claiming that Onana was sold to us that he would transform our buildup play, even leading to better and more quality chances on goal, thus romp through the PL and challenge for the CL trophy.

The rest, as you rightly note that they say, is indeed history.

Interesting about Onana is that he has very good positioning (something in which De Gea was excellent) but his reflexes, agility and flexibility is letting him down.
He is always at rigth spot which puts him in great place to save shot but he just lacks goalkeeping abilities to save it.

Not sure I'd agreed with that. I think athletically he more than has it, it's his inconsistency with positioning, footwork and choice of saves that let him down.

Too many parries into the central areas of the penalty box, too many times stuck on his line, ball watching and not closing down space/posts.

He's shown he can do everything to a good standard, it's just never consistent enough.

Tottenham 1:0 Man Utd New
Awful shot stopper. Terrible distribution. Terrified to come out for crosses. Quite possibly the worst first choice GK in the league.

I genuinely think he's crapper than Henderson, Foster, Romero, Lindegaard and all the other keepers who never got a chance with us over the years.

Godawful.

He's going to cost us more points, especially if we don't have any actual goal scorers at the other end of the pitch...which we don't.

Overall wasn't bad at all today. But another one of those goals where it wasn't a mistake but he could have done better. Oh well.

Clown in goal. His awkward throws always land us in trouble yet he keeps doing them. Please get an actual shot stopper in goal 1st before making sure he can pass a ball.

The whole point in signing him was for his apparent ability to play out from the back and it’s one of his weakest points. Dreadful goalkeeper.

I'm feckin' sick of this absolute clown show.

He's so fecking crap, it should be a seen as a minor miracle that he's somehow become the number 1 goalkeeper of Manchester United.

You know what a normal goalkeeper does for their goal? He makes a routine save and he pushes it out wide and nothing happens. It becomes a nothing incident and it barely even makes the highlights package... But no because we have piss wrists Onana, it goes right into danger and we concede the only goal of the game. It's an absolute joke.

And I don't want to hear this shit about "what more could he have done?" ... That's feckin' crap, and it does a disservice to the standards we should expect from a Manchester United keeper. It's not a very powerful shot, it's not in the corner, like I said, most keepers just just put some power in their wrists and push it wide. To absolve him of blame for that is to basically treat him like a child... Though to be fair an actual child might have dealt with that better.

It won't go down as one of his big clangers (and there's loads of those) but it's yet another one of those "Yeah Onana should do better there moments"... But the thing is those moments happen every sodding week at this point.

I can't wait until this shit show is out of this club... Unfortunately I think I'm going to have to wait a while.

Complete joker, can’t even do a proper throw to a player to start an attack. One of the worst signings of the last decade.

Sad thing is, the coaches will have identified how he pushes the ball back into the danger area, worked in training on improving…and he’s still no better.

Too heavy and slow, Dave was so good at pushing those shots wide, away from the danger area
That throw to Dorgu was terrible too.
Otherwise, made some reasonable saves that I'd expect him to

FFS you can’t put this on Onana. We could play another 90 minutes and wouldn’t score. So many at fault before we get to Onana today.

Our Worst starting keeper in our history. Really working his hardest to achieve the full undisputed worst keeper ever title. Which I believe he’ll get to by the end of the season.

I think it's a clanger. He gets two full hands on it so he should be able to push it wider. Instead he palms it out.

Even the saves he does make look so unorthodox to me, like he doesn't have the technique to deal with shots

He makes obvious errors but also concedes a fair few where you think he could do better like today. I'm done with him but god knows how we afford to replace a keeper in the summer too.

Feck off everyone who is so keen to blame that on Onana. I have played as a GK. Ther isn't enough pace to parry it to non danger side and he was already on his dive. That's on De Ligt. Period.
