Agreed, but he's young and I don't want him with that pressure.

He is our best attacking player but cannot be over hyped or put all responsibility onto.
I agree but it's just the reality of the current state of our offense.

The only player who could possibly bring stability Is seemingly on his way out, everybody else is as young as amad and all the more irregular in their output.

We may need to look to bring in a established and consistent performer to our squad in jan and if not have to trudge along as is till end of the season.

And in contrast to our other productive players in the last few years, his general play and linkup is high level too. Not only is he now scoring and assisting at a top level, his actual performances are good.

He’s a phenom, man.
If we bring in a few more players of his ilk; who knows. We may finally start turning things around. The more players we have like him in the squad and starting 11, though, the better our football will become regardless because they naturally elevate those around them, and can inflict their game on the opposition even if the team in general is having a rough game due to qualities like keeping the ball under pressure and dribbling.

Random, I know, and he's not a popular player on here anymore so i know I'd be in the minority, but I'd have loved to have seen him alongside 15/16 Martial.

The intelligence and effort here are fantastic.

He starts running and is trying to cut off the angle back to the player who initially passed it back, but THE SECOND Forster takes a touch, you see him (1) adjust his angle and (2) actually sprint faster.

Ability and workrate. A gem.

It's so clever how he waits until Forster has decided to take a touch, and then accelerates into an even higher pace with the pressing.

Loving the work rate.

It's bloody tragic that seeing a player work hard for United is no longer something we can take for granted. But still, thank feck for Amad this season. Our attack would be dead without him

Would have loved to seen him with martial.

He's basically a really good attacker with Kante level pressing skills.

Our best player on the front line and arguably the whole team this season and there in lies the problem. Ideally, he shouldn't the best player on the front line. Not yet anyways. We need to take the pressure off him and Gyokeres and an LWB are a must. We also a LAM.

Absolute pressing monster. Look how many goals he’s created with his pressing in such a short space of time.

It's criminal that Ten Haag treated him so badly by not playing him, but also a blessing, as otherwise he may have saved Ten Haag's job.

Just keep going Amad. Even when he gets it wrong, it's more right than our other attackers.

It's so sad when you have the stark contrast from what this kid is doing, to how much Rashford is not willing to do the same.

15/16 Martial was liquid man. Probably my favorite single profile of a player we’ve had post SAF. Just rinsed fullbacks for fun with elite dribbling and creation while still being a quality finisher too. Unfortunately had to play in that abomination of a side.

Him and Amad would be recreating Barca level tiki taka here.

He has become so crucial to United's attack in the space of a few games. Crazy progress really!
Yes, he's proven me to be totally wrong. I had him as marginally better than Antony. Now he shows that he's got what it takes to go all the way. Well done son. The last few weeks have been amazing.

Imagine if every player on the team ran like him, we'd be unstoppable. Hopefully his form continues for a long time to come!

How does Antony look at him, then at himself, and not see the necessity to try a bit harder ?

The intelligence of that 2nd goal shouldnt be underestimated. You watch him, he purposefully pulls to the right when hes starting to close the gap on the goalkeeper. He's trying to con him into taking a touch to the side where Amad has left space. As soon as he falls into Amad's trap he sprints and launches himself with both feet off the floor, not towards the ball but where the keeper is going to kick the ball, so no chance of a foul or bad challenge. But he puts himself in the perfect position between the keeper and the Spurs player he wants to kick it towards and the perfect position so it rebounds off him into the goal

Brilliant again. That second goal, where he initially runs and then as soon as Foster takes a touch he sprints and panics him into a mistake, was amazing to see and just shows his intelligence during a game.
Had a brief 5-10 mins period after that where the ghost of Garnacho got into him and he tried to go for goal from every position and ballooned all the shots, but he quickly got his groove back.

Wish Rashford would apply himself like that.

I don't think he's the quickest player in our team, I'm pretty sure that Rashford, Højlund and Garnacho would beat him in a footrace without breaking a sweat. It's the combination of an above average pace, great acceleration (both of which is something that he became significantly better at over the past few seasons) with incredible intensity and, most importantly, game intelligence. He knows exactly when to sprint and which trajectory to choose — even when he's pressing he often switches direction slightly multiple times which makes it even harder for the opponent to avoid him.
Yep, if you look at his goal in this game most players would have just charged at the keeper whereas Amad curves his run so he looks like less of a threat until he's suddenly right there. He may have even been out of the keepers sight for a moment.

The bolded bit is a bit far fetched! I hate to be that guy but it's just 'simply' pressing on touch, which for some reason a lot footballers don't do. I was shown and taught this by some of my older friends whilst playing football as a youngster in 5 aside. Once you understand it, you improve your tackling/duelling success rate because only the good players with the best touch and subsequent second move e.g feint, shift of the ball, first step of pace, ball manipulation can get away from you. You don't aim to win the ball when the ball is already at their feet, you aim to win at the point of 'touch' i.e the most vulnerable time when the ball has just left their feet (not planted) and you're gambling on them not having the best touch, second move or wrong body position (e.g square on the ball, not able to shift their feet etc). Usually this means being on the move before the ball has even reached them and if you're in position, you can set a 'trap'.

Amad is targeting/accelerating to reach them at that point hence his curving of runs and allowing them to open their body i.e forcing them to either drive with the ball at him or play another pass to another team mate who he will now be breathing down. Of course Amad is doing it at a much higher level and athleticism so it's still nonetheless very impressive but the concept is basic and it was still a massive blunder by Forster.

I absolutely loathe and cringe when I see our players just pressing straight/square into a player when they have already controlled the ball and thus are now prone to being shifted aside. I don't fault the effort but it's mostly wasted energy.

It’s true that we have quite a few players wothout the nous or timing for defensive duels. That said, being able to press consistently on touch in games is not as basic to master as it his to have learned or heard about - based on the evidence of how many times each game elite professionals with thousands of coaching hours don’t exploit it.

Yeah, I wrote that without seeing another replay other than the immediate one, and my recollection was that he curved his run more than he actually did which possibly put him in a bit of a blind spot for the keeper. Just watched another replay and he didn't curve his run anywhere near as much as I originally thought.

Almost all football players will curve their run when pressing, it's basic fundamentals of pressing.
This really isn't a unique thing.

I should have said most of 'our' players. It's something I've noticed for ages that our attacking players (particularly Bruno) tend to just charge straight at the ball too often and make it easy to play around them.
