One of the main reasons i value him is because i actually think he could replace one of the players that is actually leaving us.

Marcus Rashford.

I think they play quite similar and i think a peak Rashford is/was a valuable asset to the club/squad. Play as a LF, a RF, a bit selfish, a forward more than a creator etc.

Garnacho is also showing early signs of having Rashfords mentality which would be a big problem but for me at the age of 20 years old playing under a very strict manager should get him to change his mentality early or get him out the club.

Whether by design or (sub conscious) choice, he's been taking on players less and it has resulted in us retaining the ball more and higher up the pitch. I'm not advocating for him to do that all game or lose all of his dribbling penetration but it's better this than whatever he was doing before e.g numerous take-ons a game without thought or craft.

As for the bolded, we'll have to agree to disagree. I think he's good at creating space to get away from a defender to possibly put in a cross, pass or do another move but I don't think he's great at all in actually 'beating' a player i.e getting past and clear.

He's still got a relentless attitude and if honed in the right way under a good manager, he can still improve loads of course.

Do you have any stats to back up the assertion in bold? What I've seen of him is either playing backwards or losing the ball quicker (trying to beat the first man, rather than wasting a successful dribble or taking on too many).

His off the ball play and work rate is very good, that improved dramatically last season, but his newfound impotence going forward is still an issue.

There are no stats to back it up. He is very lose on the ball, more often than not he will lose the ball.

His dribbling is poor, he is a kick and run merchant, when he gets one v one, there is nothing special about him.

You can see his deficiencies in the LAM position because when he receives the ball, more often than not his touch lets him down and the ball is never under control, see Wolves 2nd goal for an example.

It's an observation as much as yours based on his sub appearances since being taken out of the first 11. Whilst he's had some high profile mistakes/ball losses, he seems to be taking on less players and therefore by default has been doing other things like playing 'backwards', which has lead to us keeping possession in the channels/recycling the ball in that area.

He's taking on players a bit less, but he's still trying, just failing earlier. And while him recycling possession more is a natural consequence of him taking on players less, it's non-threatening and usually leads back to us having possession in deeper areas.

Don't get me wrong, we absolutely needed to calm down on the ball and recycle possession more than under Ten Hag, but in Garnacho's case almost total impotence and passing backwards doesn't seem like a great trade off considering how dangerous an attacking weapon he's demonstrated he's capable of being for us. When you consider how good Amad is at both, there's a middle ground Garnacho needs to find.

I have lot of admiration for him and think criticism has been quite harsh given he was one of the better performers under ETH and his tender young age.

However, I do think that he doesn’t really fit the Amorim system and given how skint we are, we may need to cash on him. He is one of the few players that we can sell for good money and will greatly help our PSR.

Arsenal 1:1 Man Utd New
Great assist. Was a bit quiet before that but he kept going

Brilliant play that led to our goal. Glad we finished off that chance and he gets the assist. Did well today.

Probably gets forgotten slightly because it feels like a lifetime ago since he was on the pitch, but I thought he was quite good today.

Was waiting to see him get a shot at playing from the right and he immediately looks more comfortable. The position naturally forces him to play slightly narrower which is what Amorim wants, whereas on the left he just naturally drifts out wide. Worth having another look at him there, for sure.

Did well for Fernandes' goal, shot saved from a tight angle when there was barely any support, other than that fairly quiet.

I would like us to give him time to see if he can contribute in Amorim's system. It is unrealistic to expect everyone to adapt immediately. Going to need a lot of work if he is to be a success.

13 G/A for a kid in a very poor United side that’s been stop start.

If we start to hit form under Amorim I can see him getting close to 30 G/A.

Amorim's tough love has clearly worked a treat. Was always going to be a difficult game for the attack but thought he did well.

I'd be seriously impressed with 20 G&A given he's only 20. He's certainly had his ups and downs but that upward contribution trend is good to see.

I think he knows he's at a crossroads in his United career and we have a manager that is not afraid to bench him or leave him off the squad if his attitude is not right. And he's showing signs that he wants to put his head down and fight for his future at the club.

Now, whether he has the skillset to have a future in Amorim’s system, or whether Amorim can find a role for him, is still very much an open question, but at least the attitude seems to be there which is the starting point!

Keeps the social media shit to a minimum and keeps working hard to improve his game which right now has huge holes, and he will earn a new contract in the summer. Right now he's fighting to fit in to a system he's not used to and although he's broken through, like Mainoo, he has to push on. Good outing.

He's only 20 and has shown maturity, adaptability and decision making well beyond his years. I don't think he's as petulant as some people think. He seems to have got his head down after being dropped from the squad vs City and shown he is capable of playing in this new position.

I thought the same. If these two would click….
Could be amazing - Garnacho with his direct play and pace and Amad with his quick feet, decision making and passing - both are more than able to take on a player and could provide both width, technical play and the ability to get in behind the defence. It may be light in terms of defensive work, but both are hard-working, and Amad has proven that he works well as a rwb with Mazraoui behind as the right centre back.

Just my feeling that Amorim would rather play Garnacho LAM if Amad plays RWB

We need to keep him. It's so noticeable over the last month he's been coached to keep his head up and look for the pass and I always liked him anyway.

Keep please.

He’s s good egg. Gets a little carried away at times but if you have better standard setters, he’ll fall in line.

Fantastic assist and worked very hard. The difficulty for him is finding his best position. At the moment he isn't really a 10 and maybe long term needs to work on becoming a wingback as I think his skillset suits that role better.

Someone's obviously lit a fire under him that he needs to look up more and use his teammates rather than being selfish, there was a move where he did just that and it was annoying no one was up to support him, so he made the right decision to try going alone
He did it again for our goal, notably looked up, and was rewarded with an assist

I certainly have more hope with him than with Rashy, who I hope is in the process of being moved on. I'd like us to keep Garna

Amorim took his ego down and let him know he needs to be a more team player if he wishes to be a success in his system. No more main character syndrome and this is best for him as he will improve his all around game, instead of what eth was letting him do and get away with without any accountability or risk of being dropped. Credit to Garnacho he's taken it on the chin got his head down and worked on his game. This is what proper man management reap

I'd love it if there's a place for Garnacho in this system. He may not be generational talent but looks like someone who could become very good player. And if we can have him, Mainoo and Amad all as part of future team then great because it would save club a lot of money.

Isnt his contract up in 2028?

Clearly improved on some recent showings, is currently showing fight and right attitude. He has also greatly reduced bitching and moaning to teammates which is great to see. Amorim needs to see where to fit him. If LWB will be brought what will be predominantly defensive figure (Nuno Mendes?) then on RWB we will have a more attacking player and Amad and Garnacho could be competing for that slot along with Dalot/Mazraui who both can cover both flanks. With the exception that Amad and Garnacho with both probably be available also for right AMC role.

He needs to cement his humbleness by doing a SIU celebration backwards now to be completely reborn. His idol is Ronaldo thats why he was a prick. He didnt realize in modern football the players adapt to the system and not the other way around.
