Good cameo, seems like the time out of the team is doing him good, playing a lot more unselfishly which is an area he needed to work on.

Thought he played great after he lost the ball and gave liverpool a counter. Amorim needed to take him down a peg or 2 to let him know he's not the main character and you could see he played with far more maturity and was playing with his head up instead of head down looking for the glory.

I've never felt he needs to be sold or can't fit the system, the problem has been is his ego and thinking he's already top level with fans gassing him up calling for him to get the No 7 shirt and him having to hear ringing Viva Garnacho chants, it was bound to get in his head and have him believe he's the next CR7.

He can be a very good cog in the wheel effective system player if he works on his technical link up player and learn when to pick his moments to take chances, as he is not a great dribbler or finisher, so needs to focus on his movement which is one of his strengths which helps him find space and exploit gaps in defences

I feel that he can be a Pedro type of winger for us. His dribbling is nothing special.

I haven't liked what he's shown this season, in terms of performances and the vibe he has given off, but he produced a really positive performance today. Although he doesn't have a natural role in this system he's one of our most talented players and getting him in the team gives us the option of playing Amad at wing back sometimes which will generally give us more attacking threat.

One of his first touches he lost possession cheaply and I thought it was going to be one of those performances from Alejandro, but he put his head down and put in a good shift for the time he was on the park. Played it simple, took the right options and of course set up Amad's goal with a lift footed cross into the box. No messing about, no tricks, just get the ball into a dangerous area.

What position was he brought on to fill because he seemed to play like an old fashioned left winger hugging the touchline rather than an inside 10 (which is probably why he had a decent impact)?

I wonder did he take it on himself to drift over the left to a position he was more comfortable with?

Apart from that criminal offside, definitely.

Yeah, not sure wtf was up with that. Should always stay on in that position.

Did they show that offside decision again because we were in a great attacking position and I thought they were supposed to let an attack develop to conclusion before flagging? The lino flagged straight away though (the same lino that also ignored Amad being blatantly fouled 5 yards away from him, even Michael Oliver had to step in and award the free kick!)

It annoyed me because the offside free kick set up an attack for them straight away!

Good cameo. Still just seems like he's just lacking that lil bit of extra talent/physicality to be a starter.

I don't recall them showing a replay of it, which is annoying as I really wanted to see what happened there. The lino flagged immediately, so it was over quickly. Annoying officiating, tbh.

It looks like he's lost a yard of pace, or at least the burst of acceleration to get started. He's been struggling to make a yard for himself, managed it once that I can remember today and it turned into an assist, but he still looked like he was running through treacle a bit.

Amorim will never allow him to go without trying several times.

He tagged him to Rash in order to save one and ship the other.

Probably doesnt fit at first sight, but at the same time is the cherry on top of the cake.

Can play different positions. Can change during the game (with increased learning ability).

Can thrive in a system where spotting the spaces and changing rhythm is key.

The kid really needs to get his head straight. The most important part.

I wonder whether that performance has saved his Utd career. If he can build on this we'd be mad to sell him. He must use this as a springboard.

Good cameo. He passes more now, he got an important assist. But I think he should have taken a shot instead of one of the passes he attempted

He was running back, working harder and of course a brilliant move and pass to Amad! Hopefully he got the message

Good performance today. Hope he gets even more minutes in the future to help build his confidence back.

Will come good. Needed to be grounded a bit, and Amorim's man-management could be the best thing for him going forward.

Came on and made a difference, which is all he can do, and actually, I thought it was a good sub by Amorim to put Ganacho on, as the game really started to open up.

Good cameo!

I was absolutely flabbergasted thinking there's no way Garnacho could be that dumb seeing the entire line and still be offside from that (awesome) Yoro switch so I've been trying to find some clips.

There's still no conclusive angle to see the entire pitch but unless Garnacho can magically teleport behind 3-5 yards in a couple of frames, what the actual feck was that linesman call?

Knew it. Disgusting call.

The officials have been super keen to feck us whenever possible this season.

This same linesman watched Amad get pulled by Robertson right in front of him for the entire 5 seconds and does not want to give a foul at all. It was only given as a foul after Amad made it super obvious that he was being pulled and left Oliver with no choice.

I think that is rather down to confidence. He hesitates that split second and makes it easier for the defender to position himself against him. He used to be very direct before

You can tell he has lost a bit of confidence and doesn't feel as loved, but he got another assist which takes him to 12 G/A for the season.

If he can spend the second half of the season adapting to the new system and get his G/A contribution past 20 then it will have been a worthwhile campaign.

Far to many fans want to kill the young lad for every single mistake.

Definitely has a part to play in the Amorim era, for now he should be limited to cameos and an odd start. Still super young and as long as he has the motivation to learn, he'll be great.
Also, the "10" position isn't just limited to playmakers. Amorim has used proper wingers there before, it's not about the skill, it's about the application. Garna defo has a future there.

Oh wow, that’s a horrendous call.

Thought he did quite well when he came on. I dont think we should give up on him yet. There is clearly a player there.

That could be it too, that's likely easier to recover from so hopefully it is.

It's not a bad thing. He take on players too much at times and his success rate was really bad.

It's probably a confidence thing but also some directive from Amorim because him playing confidently can't mean the same thing we've seen from him under ETH, which was basically dribble x 30 times a game.

Most bizarre part is that these linesman often keep the flag down if anything is borderline because of VAR, so to flag it on that (which was just downright wrong), is criminal. Then again the cnut linesman on the other side also let Robertson turn Amad's shirt into a fecking sleeveless tee before calling a foul so it shouldn't be surprising.

It is a bad thing that his dribbling ability has dropped off so much, considering it's easily his biggest asset.

There's definitely a middle ground to be found, he had developed really bad tunnel vision and would always leave it too late to release the ball (if he released it at all), but being unable to beat a man or dribble even a little bit is a huge overcorrection.

I'd imagine it's a lot easier to dribble at pace with your head down and only thinking about shooting. He's having to develop his game and it'll weaken that element of his play until it all comes natural to him again.

Kick and rush isn't the only way to beat a man either, Amad is slower but he's fantastic at keeping the ball close whilst he's head up looking for options.

I don't really have issue with Garnacho curtailing his 'dribbling' because I wouldn't really call it his biggest asset considering it's so inefficient. I'm not saying he's terrible with his dribbling penetration but it's not that more important or better than other areas of his game e.g movement off the ball to get into the box, ability to hold width, doggedness and willingness to run (with and without the ball).

The middle ground for me is that he can run with the ball to stretch the pitch but I'd like to see him taking on people less compared to before and thus far in his recent cameos, that's exactly what he's been doing. More measured in his play and less take ons even if he has had made some big mistakes in the process too.

I don't think he's been deliberately more measured in his play, it's more that he's been less capable of beating his man and so has been forced to measure his play.

He's previously demonstrated a great ability to beat a man, but would often demonstrate pretty poor decision making around when and how to release the ball. If he can cut out the unnecessary dribbling, and get his head up more when he's on the ball, then that ability to beat a man will be invaluable and make him much more effective than just staying wide and recycling the ball.

This is a good point, he's definitely been a head down kind of dribbler, which often led to infuriating decision making after good work, so perhaps he's having to re-learn how to do it with better awareness of the game around him.

Whether by design or (sub conscious) choice, he's been taking on players less and it has resulted in us retaining the ball more and higher up the pitch. I'm not advocating for him to do that all game or lose all of his dribbling penetration but it's better this than whatever he was doing before e.g numerous take-ons a game without thought or craft.

As for the bolded, we'll have to agree to disagree. I think he's good at creating space to get away from a defender to possibly put in a cross, pass or do another move but I don't think he's great at all in actually 'beating' a player i.e getting past and clear.

He's still got a relentless attitude and if honed in the right way under a good manager, he can still improve loads of course.
