55 million in the last year of his contract.. does that mean we valued him north of 70 mil?

I'm still clinging on the hope he could be a good signing for us. On paper he seems perfectly suited for one of the two AM roles in Amorim's system. If (big if) he can stay fit, I can see him being a pivotal player for Amorim.

That's definitely in the region of what Chelsea valued him at. I think we even tried to demand that fee at the start of the window but United didn't bite.

Looked fresh and lively. Did a nice little shimmy in one particular move.
He's a good player and I hope he's over his injury issues as I feel Amorim can get good form out of him.

I’ve been saying this for the last year and half. It seems like he’s just a crock at this point unfortunately. I like him as a player a lot. He’s intelligent and hardworking and isn’t a flash clout chaser off the pitch. His fitness is absolutely appalling though. Like Rashford has played his way from a starting role in the national team to being more or less fully out over the last two years

Its weird because at Chelsea he was one of their more robust players.. come to United and he is injured.

Its hard to judge him because he hasn't had a spell of 3/4 months of being fit.

I can see him fitting into Amorim's system really well.

At this point I just can’t see him ever staying fit enough long enough to reach his true potential again. It’s a pity. He’s technically excellent and versatile

Can I ask how you rated Mount under Tuchel when he played virtually the same system as Amorim plays if I remember correctly. I think it was Mount and Havertz in the 2 AM positions and my recollection is he was very good?

That was ridiculous though. Asking for £70m was clearly just a negotiating tactic, which worked as United were stupid enough to then think they’d got a good deal at £55m. You’d have been absolutely desperate to get rid of him at the end of the window/January in the circumstances where he’d have been going for nothing 12 months later.

He's a very good mover and has tactical intelligence which partly explains his pressing stats being so good. I had real hope for him. Shame about the injuries.

Pretty sure there were three clubs open be signing him for around that amount. Us, Liverpool and arsenal. He chose us, unfortunately  .

This is how I feel. Yes we overpaid for him but he's definitely good enough to be a United player.

The ability is there, fitness is my only real concern.

He never made sense to me in Ten Hag's system, but he should suit Amorim's. Of course if he can't stay fit it won't matter.

He's very good at making intelligent runs. Not that he plays that often but he's good at darting into the box and ending up umarked in good position.

They wouldn't have signed him until January at the earliest. Mount would have opted for either one of them. Under INEOS the deal doesn't happen.

Most of the time I forget he's at the club. Total waste of money. It's comical how are we SO bad at signing players.

Antony, Mount, Zirkzee, each summer we bring some one who is completely useless.

I voted him POTY two years running, that's how I rated him. I don't actually think he played in the 8 much under Tuchel. He played there exclusively under Lampard, but Tuchel preferred a back 3, the midfielders were Kante and one of Jorginho/Kovacic, so Mount and Havertz, previously the two 8s/10's, were moved to the front 3, which is pretty much were he stayed until Tuchel left. His last year at Chelsea, after Tuchel left, he was in and out of the team, injured often.

Looking back on clips from a couple of years ago, I noticed he slender he was, and how quick and agile he was. He seems to have bulked up quite a bit the last 2 years, and he also seems to have lost a yard of pace, perhaps due to all the injuries. The very little I've seen of Mount at United, he looks bulkier, slower, less agile etc. Hopefully staying fit and getting consistent game time, he can regain some of that back.

Didn't corners make up a good chunk of his assist numbers at Chelsea? If he can stay fit and nail down a spot under Amorim then I'm sure we'll get our wish of Bruno being taken off set piece duty!

With a year left on his deal, yeah £70m was probably just a negotiating tactic, but as a player generally, I think that is actually in the region of what the club valued him at, which was a fair valuation in a normal contract situation.

He’s technically good but unless he sorts out these injuries he will struggle to kick on here

The decision to bring in Mount and spend as much as we did for him -- especially given that he was available on a free soon thereafter -- is a severe indictment against United management, but here we are and I do think Mount could become a decent squad man for us, but I just don't see him ever hitting heights expected of him.

It's getting a bit boring in here constantly reading about how much he cost while in the last year of his contract. We know a mistake was made and we were ripped off under the previous ownership but can we not just move on and discuss his performances. I'm glad to see him back and quite looking forward to what he might possibly do in a system under Amorim which he's performed well in before. Players fitness and injury record under ETH was atrocious so I'm giving nearly everyone a clean slate

How can we discuss his performances when he’s always injured?! It’s just a matter of time until he’s out again.

He was involved last night and I thought he did ok. Just don't think it adds anything to the discussion to instead bring up mistakes made in the past under previous ownership buying him in the first place and instead we should look forward to what he could do with a fresh start. I haven't gave up on him just yet as ETH system ran players into the ground and had our treatment room permanently overflowing

Honestly, if fit I think he could do a decent job as an attacking wingback as well.

"If fit" is the potentially decisive problem though.

I'm still convinced he'll come good if he can stay fit. Not sure what's up with all of the injuries, they seem completely unrelated

Obviously the latest one extended beyond Sep 19 (that was when the site refreshed)

If he is fit I play him on the left of a front 3 at the weekend. I honestly think that he would do a better job than Garnacho. Far more intelligent & way better passer.

I would of course like to see all our players fit and well. I don't think he's the required standard for Man Utd, but within this group he does seem to offer something a bit different, potentially.

Why was it, when he's Chelsea's POTY two times, he's never rated highly outside Chelsea? Never in PL team of the season, and the most he had in Europe was 2021 CL squad (not in the best team).

All aboard the mount train, again.

No none of those clubs ever made moves for him and wouldnt have spent anything like what we did on him. Liverpool got mccalister whose wages will be less than half mounts and fee a lot lower despite him being better

He scores nowhere near often enough to take up one of only three attacking positions.
