I get the frustration but it's really not his fault, the club should be blamed for making the decision to buy him and pass his medical despite a serious hip injury and surgery months before.

I know people think because he's on £250k p/w he shouldn't have any worries in the world, but I'd imagine going from a key player in a top 4 side and for England to not playing football at all most weeks and your playing career at the top level potentially being pretty much over at 26 isn't a great feeling.

I don't really have it against him being injured, just stating the cycle we will go through. And obviously it's not nice for a professional player to be suffered with injuries but he has to take some responsibility he had his agent negotiate a 250k contract and asked for the no 7 shirt he must have known back then his body was breaking down since he missed a lot of games the previous season we signed him. he also could have said, look come and get me for free but used the interest from other clubs as a bargaining move to get more money out of the club and after had the cheek to do these posts trying to act like he would die for Man United.

Even when, or if ever, he returns to fitness I don't see anything more than a squad man role for Mount. He's nowhere near the quality of Mainoo or Bruno and not he's not a wingback. If he's happy being a squad man that's great but we're paying 250/week for a squad man then, which is utterly bonkers.

Is there any way to hold the morons who bought all these clowns accountable for these decisions?

We need to start terminating contracts based on availability. We're not going to be able to offload this guy any time soon. Fecking disaster ETH inflicted upon us.

Wouldn't it be great to actually be able to talk about Mount's performance on the pitch...we thread rename the thread.

I believe this will be his 3rd year where his season has been greatly disrupted by injuries. I fear the worst for him. He is going to be impossible to move given his very high wages and longish contract (another 3 seasons).

If we can move him on, we should, but I think it's highly unlikely that we manage to find a buyer. The most realistic outcome is that we just don't renew his contract at the end of it and we just pretend this all didn't happen. In the interim I don't think we should actually be counting on him in any kind of squad considerations.

He joined the Phil Jones/Luke Shaw club of getting weekly wages and spa procedures combined with light, healthy training.

I'm happy for him, because he has unlimited time to explore hobbies and interests, maybe art or literature!

I’ve always been of the opinion that if he could get over these injuries he’d turn out to be a pretty good signing as he’s a good player and fits Amorims system perfectly. As you say though he’s now into his 3rd season at the club and still absolutely injury ridden, I just don’t see how he comes back and suddenly turns into a 40-50 game a season player again.

This really, he's a good footballer, but his biggest strength (his pressing) is probably why he gets injured so much. Which in turn makes him pretty problematic for us.

Terrible signing, unfortunately.

What I don't get about these injuries is how serious they are. I mean, you can break a bone and be back in 4 months, but he randomly pulled up in what, November, as never seen from again? It's just bizarre. Does he not heal like someone his age should?

only breaking bones is one of the best outcome. Muscle and ligament injuries are a different story, they are the ones that are sometimes irreversible or require very long rehabs.

For a non-world class player, just absurd.
Remember we offered him the number 7 shirt as the extra convincer to join, on top of his 250k a week salary. For Mason fecking Mount. I was insulted when Owen got that shirt but Michael Owen at one point was a player worthy of such a shirt but this, this was ridiculous.

Muscle injuries have an awful habit of repeating easily and often. Remember Louis Saha? Honestly, I've written this transfer off, he's another Shaw at this point. Overpaid and never fit but at least Shaw when fit is a top class player. This guy, apart from working hard, I don't know what he's meant to be good at.

Adds nothing to the discussion
The best number 7 in our history, what a signing on super star wages. John Murtough should be investigated.

You have the most posts in this thread, and they're almost all like this. Not sure what you think that adds to the football forum.

Well I add more to this thread than the player himself if you think about it.

Thought the thread had been bumped to say he'd fallen off the treatment table and broken his leg, and would be out injured another year.

Status: Out
Type of injury: Unspecified
Possible return date: Unknown

Mount was again absent against Leicester City in the FA Cup due to the problem which forced him off the field against Manchester City in the Manchester derby in December, and the Englishman is still not close to making his return.

He scammed the club by getting injured?
By being at best a mediocre player being paid super stars salary. His injuries too, but mostly for scamming us for a superstar salary and an Iconic shirt number to show feck all for it.

I don’t really see how anyone could blame the player himself for any of that

yep. apparently during his medical the doctor asked him “you’re not going to get injured, are you?” and mount said “no.” everyone heard it.

Well, he is stealing a living. Paid superstars wages that he does not deserves regardless if he is playing or not (cause anyways he is not good enough).

At times - I could easily see the football contracts going the same way as NFL. So a contract for sake of argument is £40m over 4 years. £10m a season. But half of that is guaranteed. The rest is based on other factors. Obviously the 'bigger' the player, the more guaranteed money they can command. Eg. if you signed a 25 year old Mbappe I'm sure any contract he'd get would be 100% guarantee (same as the quarterbacks in the NFL get). Other players, such as Mount, might get their £10m a season but only half of that is guaranteed and the rest is made up of appearances, availability etc.

Would reduce our wage bill by half anyway

Well I was not talking about his injuries obviously, but about him as player. His injuries are a blessing in disguise for him, cause he is hiding behind it right now. Take Zirkzee for an example with all the shit he gets from the fanbase, compared to this guy, it is unfair.

Is he back yet? Can't wait for him to feel like a brand new signing for the 5th time

Even worse, soon as he put on the United shirt he told his mates it's Easy Street, just gonna pretend there's a muscle twang, and never have to play a day of football again for the rest of his life. Mount was playing 4D chess while the club was playing checkers. Where's the justice!

Worst signing we’ve ever made as it stands, and currently worst in the history of the PL.

Well we only doubled Mounts Chelsea wage while we 10x'd Antony's Ajax wage for absolutely no reason so for me Antony is still number 1 worst signing

What Mount earned at Chelsea had zero relevance to us. We pay one player a reported 250k weekly and the other 200k. Wage wise, Mount is obviously a bigger outlay. He has contributed zero for the club, Antony has been considerably more useful than him.

Mount’s signing is compounded by the fact that he was, like Antony - overpriced, but even worse because he had one year left on his contract. You then add in the fact that from before he ever kicked a ball for us, his signing made zero sense and there was no position for him in the team. Even before his injuries became so bad, Mainoo had replaced him in the team due to being an actual central midfielder.

Then to top it all off, we suffer the indignation of him being our #7. No competition at all for me.
