Why was it, when he's Chelsea's POTY two times, he's never rated highly outside Chelsea? Never in PL team of the season, and the most he had in Europe was 2021 CL squad (not in the best team).
Probably because he is a jack of all trades, master of none type of player, and doesn't really specialise in anything. These players tend to not be rated highly outside their own teams. Henderson, John O'Shea, Mount etc.

Personally, I rated him when he was at Chelsea. I thought his quick thinking and intelligence was levels above anyone in our squad, and that he would reach a higher level than he currently has. Injuries have slowed it down for him, but there is quite obviously still a player there. His first touch, general technique and ability to receive on the half turn are excellent and something only he and Mainoo are capable of.

He could play 90 minutes tomorrow and, after a brief pause, this thread will be full of complaints about why he never available. Probably without any acknowledgement from anyone that he actually played

He’s gonna be a massive player for Amorim. Just needs to stay fit

He's useless. What's he done to show he'll be massive for anyone at United?
All reports coming out that he’s been one of the best in training. So he’ll be starting games. He hasn’t had enough games to show what he’s capable of because of his injury’s. His energy will suit Amorims style.

So? Loads of players train well but don't turn up on the day.

Where have you seen these reports?

It was only a few weeks ago Ten Hag chose Antony over an in form Amad because he was looking the best in training.

If Amorim is looking for players that can run and add energy, initially at least he has a chance to play.

Nah he choose Antony because of his love for him and not trusting Amad who’s been our best attacker for most of the season.

He’ll play two games and be out again for two months, rinse and repeat.
Then so be it. Aslong as the 2 games he plays he contributes then who cares. The starting AM should be Bruno and Amad anyway. But I read a predicted line up today that had Mount CM.

A massive player? I have my doubts, yet I don’t see things in absolutes like most of this forum, as in he’s either brilliant or utterly shite (the latter being the overwhelming consensus). The truth is that Mount has a history, two plus years ago, of being a top international class player, whose style and position fits in very well with Amorim’s system.

But it’s unavoidable not to consider how much football he has missed, how long it’s been since he had a sustained run of games, and how long it’s been since he produced his best. If he can stay fully fit and play to his best levels, he will be a big player for us under Amorim. But the last year and a half has taught us that that is a lot of ifs.

Temper your expectations, whilst remaining hopeful, is my advice. Mount was a very good, very productive, hard working, and dangerous PL proven and international proven player. But he hasn’t shown that level for at least 18 months. Mainly due to injury, and partly due to how he’s been used. He has everything to prove again. I have no doubt that a fully fit and firing Mount makes our first team and makes us better, but again, a lot of question marks.

He scores nowhere near often enough to take up one of only three attacking positions.

With his energy and mobility he could still be a vital player that allows us to press higher up the pitch, win the ball back in key positions and thus improve our overall attacking football to the point where we overall score more goals.

Have the same thoughts. Could be one of his favourite players if fit.

He was really good for Tuchel in a similar system and in my opinion is at his best in the wide half spaces. Under EtH he had no chance because he’s not a creative hub for a team but from what Amorim seems to want Mount has a lot of that.

Probably the best presser, good in possession, fit and selfless. The biggest issue is him trusting his ability a bit more in trying to decide games but hopefully good coaching and confidence will do that.

The longer a player is out, or the more recurring their injury(s), the more concern there should be about their body withstanding the stress and intensity of the press and the force of running numerous micro actions at full explosive capacity.

Mount was supposed to be our terrier extraordinaire; so good at it that we got rid of Fred for him to upgrade on that kind of action, no less. All those twists, turns and bursts to track runners are the most intense - albeit brief - elements of the press and the question has to be asked if he can do that at all, over a run of games. The demands on his seemingly broken body would be some of the highest in the team.

The Mount being referred to, we haven't seen at this club, which is unfortunate for both he and us given it was/is a forte and his intelligence and competence used to really back up the doggedness and understanding of how to succinctly run down the opposition.

I feel as though the leg break destroyed Shaw and the player we want him to be is mired in the problems his body now has. I do sincerely hope it's not the same story with Mount, as he has a potentially bigger role to play in an Amorim setup than he did under ETH.

I’ve never really liked the Mount signing but I think he could suit one of these ten roles perfect. Would be good to see him do really well there

The left #10 role is almost the exact same as where he played for Tuchel's Chelsea and where we saw the best of Mount. But if he wants to be a strong option there we need to see the ballstriking, dribbling, movement, and linkup abilities that made him so good. For United, he hasn't been fit or confident often enough to show much outside of some great pressing. I hope those on-ball abilities are still in there somewhere because I like Mount a lot and would love to see his United career kickstart. I think it would be wise for Amorim to not have him press like a madman, as good as he is at it, because it clearly puts too much stress on his body.

Would also be nice if he found his way into the starting lineup because he was a monster corner taker for Chelsea, and I cannot watch Bruno whack corners at the first man much longer.

Not true. ETH literally said himself Amad was doing well but he had to reward the performances of Antony in training.

This was the theory at the beginning of the year too, but if he’s not banging them in or creating enough it doesn’t matter how good his pressing is

The issue with Mount is not his G/A output, but his availability. The poor man is always injured. The entire team was underperforming regarding scored goals, as soon this issue is fix, many attacking players will display improved stats.

If he stays fit, and that's a gigantic if, Mason Mount will imo be instrumental in Amorim's system.

Need to shake off injuries before we can discuss and predict whether he can contribute.

He would say that wouldn’t he. Do you go for someone that does well in training but rubbish in a match or someone that shows what they’re capable of in a match?

I dont think it's just pace. He's lacking ability and physicality. He's weak on the ball and hides from the ball. But he runs around and presses aggressively. Jesse Lingard with a £60m pricetag.

His best season for Chelsea was very similar to Lingard's best season for us. Both had 1 great season, both topped out scoring 13 goals in their best season. Both played big parts in cup wins, albeit Mount's was the CL whereas Lingard played a big part in FA and League cup runs.

Then they both fell off a cliff. Mount has scored 4 goals in all comps in the last 2.5 seasons, which is abysmal. Lingard dropped off the same.

They even have near identical, very underwhelming England records. Lingard 6 goals 32 caps vs Mount's 5 goals 36 caps.
He hides from the ball as he is the trying the hardest out of all our players to win it back? Alright then.

Can we appoint Murtough and Arnold again just to sack them only for this stupid signing. I cant remember a worse signing in the past 15 years. Not only he is mediocre at best, but also not available.
