Kylian Mbappé | Player Performance Thread

It won't be 6 years now.

Big club like ours should plan long term. With this kind of player who 'dream' for Madrid we just can't so we shouldn't bother, and I think Mourinho won't either.

You referred to the Ronaldo situation which was 6 years. If ultimately he left us for Madrid he would have had to have been tremendous for us and there is zero chance we wouldn't make a profit. Ibra wasn't a long term purchase but I'm pretty happy with that one.

In reality we won't be getting him anyway, Madrid will, he's a fan and from what people are saying he seems absolutely sure to go on to be an elite player, they have an aging couple of forwards in Ronaldo and benzema so could use some youth.

Great talent but if we get him it will be Ronaldo situation all over again. Best to avoid.

That is really a myopic perspective tbh. Other than Latin players who have preferences for the La Liga over the BPL due to cultural similarities, European players in general do not. Real Madrid is the choice now due to recent successes in the last 2 decades, high wages and an amazing corporate branding through buying the biggest names in football, eg Zidane, Carlos, Figo, Ronaldos, etc. Many young players grew up idolising then, rather than the club initially, and over time, dreams and ambitions are created and established a bond to RM and Barca. Likewise, the effects of what we are doing now, will pave the way for many young Swedes and French talents in the near future. We need to get the biggest names in football, complimented with the best English talents and i for one is delighted to see the club doing all the right things under JM.

I think you underestimate the financial might of United and overestimate the pull of Madrid if we get back to winning ways I don't see Madrid poaching our best players Ronaldo's situation was different in sense that our management might have been more willing to do business for record fee despite posturing due to our financial situation back then but now we are different beast all together with different management style, aiming to become desired destination for top players and willing to pay the top dollar as transfer fee as well as top wages.

Agree that realistically it will be Madrid in a couple of years and it will be best for all parties. I just don't want to have a player who'll say "I dream of playing for Madrid" while playing for us again. We now are bigger than that.

If we avoid every young talent that dreams of Real Madrid or Barca we'll misss out on a lot of talents.

Good point, but there're also many players who are dreaming to play for us or at least doesn't have specific dream club like Ronaldo. Mhiki looked at us as a dream club. Griezmann has Beckham as an idol and no doubt would want to play for us in a number 7 shirt. Even Pogba had connection to us. These kind of players, we can plan long term with so they will be worth every pennies.

Meh, Cristiano started dreaming of us after 5 years, two PL titles and a CL with you...and i'm pretty sure us offering him £600/700k a week also played its part in his "dream"...

No we aren't. We were bigger when we had Ronaldo and were winning the champions league than now, when we've qualified for it 1 out of 3 years. I don't care if you quote some nonsense about revenue streams or developing in the south American market, we were bigger then.

My mate had money on Monaco to score over 2.5 goals yday, apparently Mbappe messed up big time in the last minute, could've scored or squared it? Anyone got a gif of it?

A player like Jérôme Rothen reached the champions league final with Monaco (Evra-Rothen on the left). He had the choice between Manchester United and PSG. He preferred to join his dream club and so joined PSG. Acquired for 10 millions, a high fee for that modest PSG: he never won a league.

If you want my opinion, he should have joined United and would have made a greater career. If he had failed in Manchester, then he would have been the welcome in Paris or any French city.

PSG wasn't a 'dream club' for Zlatan whose initial plan was to stay in Milan in 2012... and you know his impact.

I'm not interested in the dreams of players but their ability/potential to shine.

I´ve got to admit that Mbappe was really impressive against City and he´s the type of player I would like to see at this club even though I doubt Mourinho will sign him. It will be really interesting to see sales and buy´s this summer but after the great buy´s done last summer I´m sure Mourinho will invest wisely again. Hopefully we will be able to quilify for the CL so Ibra will stay for another year, apart from the impact he has as a player I think he´s also showing a lot of the young players at the club how to do things the right way.

Quite a nice one though

One of the best tap-ins you'll see!

He's been so dangerous tonight. Terrorizing the OM defence when he can be bothered. His balance is remarkable.

He's got 13 goals this season and with Monaco's attack, I would bet on him reaching 20 goals. Has there ever been a player in a top 5 league (PL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1) who managed to get 20 goals when they started the season as a 17 year old?

Owen? Fowler?

Owen? Fowler?
Fowler was 18 and didn't score 20 in his first season but Owen is a very good shout. He wasn't just 17 as well at the start of the season but he even turned 18 the same month as Mbappé (December).

Anyway Mbappés stats are simply insane for a player that young. Many of the games he only was used as a sub for a few minutes. Played only just above 1200 minutes and got 13 goals and 10(?) assists now.

Could he play on his own up front? Im not so sure - perhaps he could develop into it over a number of years. There seems to be an abundance of inside forwards, number tens, but not too many out and out strikers.

Yeah he's doing really well for contributions per minute.
That said, Monaco are absolutely flying this season, and although he contributes to that, I'd like to see how he goes when the team isn't smashing in multiple goals a game or have their backs against the wall

Contrary to a younger Lacazette, despite being 18, he's so powerful that he needs nobody to break the opposing lines.

The last young player (under 20) who impressed me was Dembélé last season with Rennes.

Mbappé is a striker and he plays regularly as a striker for Monaco.

1-0 Mbappe at home to Nantes. Kid can't stop scoring.

Him and this Monaco side are just so good to watch. I love it.

Hope him (and Jardim) stay in Monaco for another season.

That goal wasnt that impressive (Bernardo Silva and then the poor Nantes defence did most of the job, although the finish was ok), but his stats are really impressive. He's on 14 goals and 8 assists in all comps, so involved in a goal every 65mns.

Well that was a great header. 2nd goal and 3-0 Monaco.

I change my mind. I think he can get 25 goals this season, his goals and assists per minute ratio must be ridiculous.
