Kylian Mbappé | Player Performance Thread

Bayern could outspend Chelsea if they want to. They just don't flex their financial muscles that often because their home-grown talent is better and cheaper than in England and that's why people underestimate their spending power.

Exactly. Süle looks to be another excellent signing for example. 17m.

That's a subjective observation and I'm not sure it's a major factor in deciding where players go;some will choose the reputation of the club, others money and some location.

If I were French and of African descent I'm not sure Munich has more appeal over London TBH
It probably will in 2 years to be fair.

Who is Kylian Mbappe? Everything you need to know about Monaco teen striker and Arsenal target dubbed the ‘next Thierry Henry’
France Under-19 star Mbappe netted a hat-trick at the weekend and Arsene Wenger has admitted trying to bring him to the Emirates

By ANDREW GIBNEY, FOOTBALL WHISPERS - 22nd February 2017, 1:55 pm

WHEN searching for the next Thierry Henry, there are only two men that are allowed to pass judgement, and Arsène Wenger has already given 18-year-old wonderkid, Kylian Mbappé, his seal of approval.

Football Whispers take a closer look at the teenager that the whole of Europe are watching very closely.

Wenger told French TV: “Mbappe is exactly, well not exactly Thierry Henry, but it is true that he has similar qualities and the talent is similar, the potential is similar.”

The other man, is Henry himself, and after following a similar upbringing the teenage forward is now breaking all the Arsenal legends records for AS Monaco.

Henry told French radio station RMC: “When I first saw him play against Tottenham in the Europa League, as soon as I saw him, I knew he was a player. I said: ‘who is he?’

“At 16 and a half [years old], he was asking for the ball, he could dribble, he was having shots, he was winning the ball back and he loved the ball.”

The striker (right) scored a hat-trick against Metz
That was during Monaco’s 4-1 defeat to Spurs at White Hart Lane, with the young forward a glimmer of light in an otherwise poor performance from the Ligue 1 side.

Before the trip to London, Mbappe had only made a two minutes cameo off the bench in the league draw with SM Caen, then with his team losing, Leonardo Jardim unleashed him for the last 34 minutes of the 4-1 defeat. Mbappe helped set up Monaco’s consolation goal, and certainly stood out from the crowd.

Henry continued: “The desire was there. Mbappe has something special, let’s be honest. If he keeps his head on his shoulders, it will come on its own.”
Comparisons to France’s all-time leading goal-scorer are impossible to avoid. Mbappe was also born in the suburbs of Paris, moving to the Clairefontaine academy at an early age.

Just two months after the Spurs defeat, the youngster came off the bench against Troyes with 17 minutes to go. Into stoppage time and Monaco attacked down the left. Sensing his moment, Mbappe sprinted to keep up with play and his effort was rewarded, picked out inside the area to seal the 3-1 win and score his first goal for the club.

At just 17 years and two months old, that finish broke Henry’s long-standing record.

“He’s one of our most promising academy players and his emergence shows we’re doing good work,” said AS Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev.

“This also demonstrates that young players are given a chance here at Monaco. I believe that at Monaco we have the best sporting project in Europe for young players.”

During the summer, the forward became a national star as his performances helped France win the Under-19 European Championships. A double and an assist against Portugal in the semi-finals has standout moment.

Mbappe starred at the European Under-19 Championships
This season began with huge anticipation over what the young forward could achieve, but Monaco boss Jardim was quick to pour water on the hysteria.

Mbappe, as well as missing three games with a head knock, started eight of the opening 14 games on the bench, coming on as a sub three times.

Every now and again, the Portuguese coach would let him off the leash and the Frenchman would show his qualities.

Playing in a 4-4-2, similar to how Henry played with Arsenal under Wenger, Mbappe plays in the front two. He has the power and pace to push wide, take defenders with him and then burst past opponents, getting into the box.

Monaco’s style suits him perfectly. They love to hit on the break and Mbappé will hug the shoulder of the last defender, looking to get free.

Single strikes against Montpellier, Nancy and Bastia whet the appetite, then he teased with an impressive hat-trick against Stade Rennais in the Coupe de France.

As Jardim looks to keep his team fresh with the UEFA Champions League clash with Manchester City coming up, Mbappé is gaining more minutes in the league.

Montpellier were made to pay, a moment's lapse letting the youngster sprint beyond their back four and like Henry of old, he took the ball on the left-flank and finished calmly with his right-foot.

Metz were put to the sword last weekend and Mbappé’s hat-trick in the 5-0 thumping makes him the youngest player to score three times in the French league since a 17-year-old Jérémy Ménez did the same in 2005.

We should have him here to have both of the new Thierry Henry's in our ranks to piss off Arsenal dans.

He attacks the space off the ball and uses his sheer speed and acceleration.

I'm not talking about physicality or hold up play. He is very direct. So is Lukaku.

Physicality and hold up play is also used by Troy Deeney, would you say that makes them similar ? Mbappé is much more refined on the ball and can link up better than Lukaku already

Yeah I agree. He's better at dribbling. My focus is mainly on making a comparison to someone who is of similar quality and aggression.

Troy Deeney is not a bad call actually. He has fewer physical tools though.

Are you trying to kill @kouroux?

The guy is a talent.
I want us to produce such talents.
Not sure how Kingsley Coman or Koman got into Bayern, but Real have Isco and Morata, Monaco have this guy. Yes - we have Rashford, but I want to see us produce a talent like these guys.

Rashford arguably had a more impressive introduction into the first team, because we have a much more competitive league here in England compared to France.

We do have a tendency to downplay our own talents.

I see that Martial is currently being hugely downgraded in light of Mbappe's rise, as though the latter won't go through the inevitable lull that all young players do.

Feck off, Martial is the new Thierry Henry! Martin Tyler didn't blow his load live on-air for nothing!

Spot on. If Martial and Mbappe swapped careers but played the exact same way it would be Martial who would be rated higher. It's just because people grow accustomed to players styles.
It's all about whats new when people evaluate and compare young talents. This time last year Iheanacho was the next great goalscorer in European football and now look.

Rashford's introduction was out of this world. But Martial is not our production. I am not wishing for us to have better young talent - because we are stacked (Rashford, Martial, Shaw, Pereira - don't want to mention others, it will open another discussion). I wish we could produce more quality talent.

It's started. Mbappe would be a worthy replacement for Cristiano, who's his idol and I remember Mbappe doing Cristiano's celebration for France.
Balague has said recently that Real had scouts at the Monaco v City game and went back with glowing reports on Silva, and we're highly impressed with Mbappe. Balague is saying Mendes is trying to sign him up to be his agent, his current agent doesn't want Mbappe moving for atleast another season, maybe two, which I feel is the right course of action for his development.

Coman played for PSG and Juventus before joining Bayern, Isco played for Valencia and Malaga and Morata left Madrid for Juventus before being bought back

Also Isco and Morata are 24, hardly the same as Rashford, Mbappe or Coman

He came off the bench at Guingamp and is absolutely murdering them. Just won a penalty.

@GifLord He showed an excellent piece of skill to get away from a defender on the counter-attack out on the wing by the half-way line around the 83rd minute, any chance you could find and post it?

Gonna post in 3h when they show the replay

Yeah having one of the best players in the world for 6 years then making an incredible profit was terrible. Don't go near.

It won't be 6 years now.

Big club like ours should plan long term. With this kind of player who 'dream' for Madrid we just can't so we shouldn't bother, and I think Mourinho won't either.

If we avoid every young talent that dreams of Real Madrid or Barca we'll misss out on a lot of talents.
