Quick game... wonder how many people can point to Armenia on a map of Europe (without Googling of course)?!

It's the orange one in the bottom right corner - on Turkey's East border[/spiler]
The one to the right of Turkey. I know because of the Armenian genocide which Turkey were involved in

I think it's the orange one but not sure

Substantial upgrade on Mata. The guy is intelligent just as Juan but also can dribble past defending players and got much more dynamite in his foot.

Overall, he's the addition LvG was craving for but failed to deliver - fast & creative asset in attacking formation.

Adnan suffered due to change in Manager and im afraid Jesse might go the same route. How woul you know he wont get to Miki's ability when he is just starting his career
He'll be 24 this year...

Wanyama compared to mkhitaryan my god I really don't think people realise just how good this guy is.

Doubt he is comparing their abilities becuase they play different positions. So its not fair to say this one is more excellent than the other. Admittedly there is no scientific rule on how these transfer fees are arrived at but you can logically tell if a player is over-priced based on performances and age. Its all about opinions really there is no right or wrong answer until the player actually delivers

Oh this again.

People care about transfer fees because money is not infinite and paying €70m would mean less money to spend on other targets. As we stand, €30m is great business which
  • does not put a lot of pressure on the player from the media/supporters
  • saves us quite a few millions for other targets.
That's why.
What are you talking about? United have spent an absolute fortune over the past few years and will continue doing so. Overspending on a player will not change that. Don't be so naive.

I agree the only way the fee is relevant to us is the pressure it puts on a player. Besides that, I don't care how much we spend as long as we improve our squad.

The colours on that map make it look like the Ukraine is a dinosaur trying to hump Romania.

Very good deal for a player in his prime. If i recall, we paid more for the likes of Fellaini and Mata (not that i'm equating the two) so this is very good business.

Someone can link to a write-up of him. I've only seen him in highlights so no clue about his ability to play RW which I assume we're buying him for.

Wouldnt believe the Sky numbers at all. I m pretty sure he wont go for below 40m€, but English media are always fast when it comes to pulling numbers out of their asses.

With regards to the transfer fee, I think Sky might have reverse-Depay'd it. BBC mucked up the Depay transfer fee in this way: £23m (or thereabouts which was the quoted sum) -> €31m -> £31m

Everything that's been suggested is that Dortmund would settle for €40m. Sky then translates €40m -> £32m -> €32m -> £26.8m.

Surely the BBC and Sky aren't that stupid

The leaked document for the Depay deal makes it seem the BBC were close to the actual figure also

What would be a perfect caf player?

Has pace, can play on both wings and at nr. 10, possibly as a striker, not too old (28 is too old), must have potential but not to be raw, must stay and not wish to go to Madrid anytime soon..

Anything else?

Griezmann basically, which is why it was good that that link got shut down early before things got too mad on here.

How interesting. Di Marzio vs Bild.

If the former was correct then his credibility would shoot even higher. Bild is very reputable.
It's Sport Bild. Sport Bild from what I've learnt aren't anywhere near as reliable as Bild. Comparable to the rags here.

104 votes for no, what do people want ffs?

Think there are very few players in the world that there will be full agreement on here. I'd imagine even if we get Pogba for the 100m or whatever, there will be those that will say better to spend on 2 or 3 players instead for that amount.

To me he may not be a superstar but, is in top echelons players available / gettable in a position we absolutely needed reinforcing in, so will be a great addition. Just hope he beds in well.

Yes he will be 24 but its still his going into his 2nd season as a 1st teamer. He was a late developer and that doesnt make him a poor player

Next season will be his 4th season of senior football not his 2nd. Hes had two years in the championship. People seem to keep overlooking this.

Hes not a late developer. Decent little hardworking player but unfortunately nothing more. Last season in a poor attacking side he wasnt even a standout performer.

I hope he improves and becomes better but he would have to improve massively to have a long term future at United.

When it comes to Dortmund matters that is not even remotely true. Sport Bild has been probably been the paper with by far the best hit/miss quota in the last year. Especially Ostendorp (their lead writer when it comes to Dortmund) appears to have strong sources inside the club. The only journalist who has currently a closer connection to the club is Röckenhaus, who acts as the media mouthpiece of CEO Watzke.

It is not even Bild vs. Sky here, it is "Ruhrnachrichten" (BVB´s media partner) vs. Sky. The former quotes the fee close to 40 Mil. €, the latter 32 Mil. €. I know whom I trust more in this case.

On the contrary, Sport Bild have been quite well informed regarding Dortmund's matters in the more recent past. Bild have a lot of informants everywhere but it seems like they don't hesitate to make shit up, so you can never been sure with them.
FWIW I've read that Ruhrnachrichten (and they are basically Dortmund's mouthpiece) is sticking to the €40m figure.
Either way that shouldn't be an unsolvable obstacle.

That is my guess as well.

Has the Premier League ever had an Armenian before?
