Again, why do you all care about transfer fees so much? We could afford €70m for him, it doesn't matter. The only thing that shout matter to us is how good he is.

Oh this again.

People care about transfer fees because money is not infinite and paying €70m would mean less money to spend on other targets. As we stand, €30m is great business which
  • does not put a lot of pressure on the player from the media/supporters
  • saves us quite a few millions for other targets.
That's why.

Bloody hell, I can't help but get excited about the new season. If we bring a marquee CM, we'll be a really strong contender for the PL.

..............................DDG............................

Darmian......Smalling........Bailly.............Shaw

................Schniederlin..Herrera...................

.........Miki...............Rooney.............Martial...

.......................Ibra/(Rashford)..................

Hopefully this is the kind of thing Mourinho has in mind for us next season.

I'll be surprised if that's our strongest XI come the start of the season. I think Rooney will play where Herrera is, Schneiderlin will drop deeper, and we'll sign another midfielder. Also think we need another defender, and if it were up to me I'd replace Darmian.

Why Smalling?

Granted he had a very solid 6 months or so but apart from that he's been average. I just think we could do so much better in his position. He's just a one-dimensional player, doesn't even pass the ball that well, tends to panic when opposing players get near him....and don't get me started on his grabbing. He got found out a couple of times last season because of it. His marking ain't brilliant but he has put a few good stops in to be fair to him.

Didnt he play like 50+ games last season? I mean playing that many games will eventually take a toll on your performances. Both him and Blind practically had no rest last season.

Exciting transfer! Watched him last season, he had an awesome season. Can't believe some people don't want him, there aren't any better options out there

Good lord. :wenger:

"One-dimensional, can't pass the ball that well." Which player have you been watching?

Was one of our best players in his first season and last season really only was bad towards the end. Loves the club and gives his all always. So a fair few care

Completely disagree. I think his attitude masked some real mediocrity. I genuinely think Fellaini did more to warrant being kept thsn Herrera last season.

I'm much more concerned about Mata.

Did Smalling miss any games? I know Blind was rested near the end.

Phil Jones will probably be moved on after Rojo.
They both made 55 starts this season. The most any player has done since Gary Pallister in 1994.

Missed three games due to a shoulder injury (5-1 W v Midtjylland, 3-2 W v Arsenal, 1-0 W v Watford). He was also not in the squad for the away loss v Bournemouth.

Other than that and a game v Ipswich in the FA Cup (played 70 mins), he played every single minute of the games he's played.

There ya go, plus his cunning red card plan in the FA cup final to get Palace to attack was a masterstroke :D

That's not really the problem though, the real problem is that he can't match Beckenbauer.

Mkhitaryan chance creation last season was 81 in 31 league matches which is roughly 2.6 per match

How our other attacking midfielders compared
Mata: 53 in 38 matches = 1.4 per match
Rooney: 42 in 28 matches = 1.6 per match
Depay: 12 in 29 matches = 0.4 per match
Martial: 37 in 31 matches = 0.8 per match
Herrera: 21 in 27 matches = 0.7 per match
Lingard: 14 in 25 matches = 0.6 per match

Can't be bothered to work out how Mkhi compares across the league but Mkhi should create more chances for our strikers, however I would take our stats from last season with a pinch of salt as LVG's restrictive system definitely had an effect on our chance creation.

Not overly excited at this one. Perhaps its the let down of the Falcao and Di Maria experience. I was even disappointed with BFS last season. I cannot get aroused at this one

Mother of god you want schneiderlin and Darmian gone as well schneiderlin was the best DM in the league for nearly three years straight van gaal runied him. I think the two players who will thrive the most under mourinho are Darmian and schneiderlin. If smalling was named Christoffel smallus you'd think he's great your the type of person who loves a Name rather then the player. Smalling has been immense this year.

11 goals and 15 assists from out wide in 31 appearances in the Bundesliga last year according to whoscored.

When was the last time we had a proper threat like that outwide? (Barring Martial).
20 assists in bundesliga in 31 games

Watch Herrera absolutely excel under mourinho if he's given the time of day. Hopefully we play a 4-3-3 because that's what suits our current squad best. In that formation Herrera can be a really exciting and productive player.

Yeah I think mata is almost done here. Love the guy but selling him for a good price is not the worst idea

wanyama!? seriously?

it really is impossible to please some isnt it.

This is a quality signing.
