G/A: 7/11, 5/6, 2/3 in last three seasons with Inter, granted, marred by injuries, sold to Galatasaray, had a shit first year then improved since, in the Turkish league. By the same measures, I'd guess you want Nani back.

And for those of you who is outraged, no, I'm not comparing him to Ashley Young playing style wise, but there are similarities in making the step up to United.

Nani would be welcome back anytime this summer. He'd be great under Mourinho and would provide a lot of depth on the wings (even if he plays sparingly).

Also, even if Mkhitaryan was like Ashley Young - the latter was immensely successful here in his first year or two. So yeah, let's sign the Bundesliga/Armenian Ashley Young!

He got what, 8 goals and 8 assists in his first year, with 2 of the goals wonder strikes in that 8-2 match. By the end of 12-13 half of the forums wanted him gone and the other half losing patience. Immensely successful, ha.

I'm not saying that Micky will definitely, inevitably turn out that way, but there are just some feelings you get with certain players/transfers, and feck know the Caf got it wrong with its muppetry enough in recent years. Di Maria, Falcao, Berbatov, Kagawa, Depay, Herrera etc... It doesn't mean we should stop buying peak ready made players, but wetting ourselves because one has a fancy name, plays for Dortmund and had a great season out of the last 3 seems premature.

Did you watch him in his first year here ? He was fantastic.

I can't say I know an awful lot about this guy, but I'm very skeptical of signings like this in general these days. Seems like since SAF has left, few players are working out for us after being hyped. Time will tell.

It's almost like we've had 2 absolutely awful managers who couldn't tell their arse from their elbow

The two managers we've had since Ferguson left probably has a lot to do with that. I have far more confidence in Mourinho making the right signings and getting the best out of them.

Very true, I guess having a top class manager again is going to need some getting used to.

I watched every single United game under Fergie since I started supporting the club. I remember enough of that season. He started really well and got something like 4 goals and 4 assists in our first 10 games, did feck all for about another 10-15 before having a bit of a resurgence with 2 goals in a 3-1 win at WHL and the winning goal at Blackburn.

He was good enough that season, there were certainly cause for optimism, but he's nowhere 'immensely successful'.

Now you're underselling him to offset your bizarre Mikhitarian comparison. He was fantastic for the first year and was integral in our attack.

If you ask 10 United fans about who was our best winger during that season, I think about 8 would say Valencia, who was our POTY. Not Ashley Young. I don't need to undersell him. He wasn't fantastic. Half of his stats came in a single game against a depleted Arsenal.

A fantastic season for a United winger is at least 10-11 Nani or 11-12 Valencia. Standards have been lowered and it shows.

That just shows how good Nani and Valencia were at that point, which isn't surprising since they were United vets by that point. What's your next trick ? Bailly = Johny Evans ?

If he shows himself to be no more talented or composed, why not?

We are a powerhouse, we should expect excellence from our very well paid players. I never understand the 'bedding in' attitude towards players in their peak who are bought to perform/make an impact immediately.

And the Valencia Utd vet stuff is bollocks. He hit the ground running in 2010, his first season, got a terrible injury in September that year, came back and was instrumental in our late run to the title and CL final in 2011, became our POTY next year before inexplicably turning to shit attack wise since. There's no correlation between peak players bedding in and subsequent improvement in performance. If anything, from our recent history of purchase, if they don't crush it immediately, they are more likely than not to flop.

Not sure what any of this has to do with Mikhitarian other than to create a flamboyant thesis as to why Ashley Young was poor, thus giving your comparison some sort of credibility. It has none.

Alright ladies I think Ashley young has a thread in player performances

Oh so after detracting from the original point yourself, you accuse me of making shit up?

My points were simple. I see similarities between Mkhitaryan and Young, not as players, but the fact that they are of similar age at the time of making the step up to United, have good stats at previous team and decent work ethic, but neither shows/showed the technical brilliance that suggest they will be unequivocally successful at a 'monster club' like United. If people take issue with that then address it instead of trying to make out as if I'm comparing them as players or whatever.

He's like De Bruyne, incredibly effective in real football matches but doesn't do the things that make great Youtube compilations.

For some reason I haven't been able to go full muppet over this one. It doesn't have any of the "will they, won't they?" that a good transfer saga needs. It's the transfer equivalent to going to a bar and having a good-looking girl throw herself at you the moment you walk in the door. Great, obviously, but all the fun of the chase gets taken out.

Of course it's better than going home alone and having a sad wank in the shower like we did with Thiago, Hazard, Vidal and Fabregas.

In this case though, it's Slig's girl and he's trying to tell you she'll stay with him despite the fact she's grinding up against you as he speaks.

I'm very happy with this signing. He is versatile and fills a position where we lack serious quality RW (unless Memphis and Lingard improve a lot). He is also an experienced player but without being too old like Zlatan. And don't get that one wrong beacuse I like the Zlatan deal as well. So who is next? Must be a CM?

The thought of @slig raging at us getting him for €38m as opposed to Dortmund holding out for the €40m he so desperately wanted really tickles me for some reason

Mkhitaryan and Ibrahimovic would certainly be two big name signings. With Fosu-Mensah and Borthwick-Jackson coming through we will definitely be the team with the biggest names.

Mata is so gone.

It's all part of Woody's master plan, soon names on shirts will be charged by the letter.
