Last season I got absolutely blasted on here for saying United needed a centre back. Absolutely torched when I added "it won't be long until we have Blind and Carrick at CB"

"Don't be an idiot" "No we won't, don't be stupid" etc

What happened a couple of months later? Blind and Carrick were our CB's to the annoyance of Redcafe.

I think 35m for a 27 year old in the last year of his contract is a lot. And I'll stick with that. The rest of you will probably realise it eventually

£26m on a quality mid that we have been missing for a long time. Don't care if he is in the last year of his contract that's fecking £4m less than sane.

Imagine how much he would have cost normally. That price is a bargain.

Of course, but that title has been there for at least 2 days, so we must have a different understanding of what the words 'closing in' means

Actually the title has changed a couple of times in the past two days - but the substance of it is the same.

100 pages for this? The media only got wind of this when Riola started talking about the player wanting the move. It was pretty much done from the start.

Its amazing how we have dragged this to the 100 page mark.
The caf loves the transfer season.

Large parts of the debate were about if the price Dortmund is asking was justified and if might be too soft/slow/small/tall/handsome/replacewithwhatevercrapyoucancomeupwith for the PL.

Also a lot of moaning about how Dortmund is so mean to us while they give all the players that Bayern want to them for peanuts.

So just the usual baseless, deluded, Caf-transfer-season-crap.

Do you think our club is run by amateurs? Do you honestly think an experienced CEO of a company that generates £500m+ in revenue, backed by a team of accountants and financial experts, will spend over the odds and in turn lose out on other targets? Do you think by spending £30m on Mkhitaryan instead of £20m we'll only be able to offer £90m for Pogba instead of £100m?

You can't be that simple, surely?
Don't mind me I'm a Fm legend. Mu united saved career saw the club's value rise to 4.2 billion dollars.:D

Based on his time at Dortmund I wouldn't say he's a big game specialist.

CL/EL:
13/14: he was the first to get subbed off in Madrid and then wasted all his chances in the return leg, when Dortmund were dominating them.

14/15: he didn't really stand out in any CL games and was fairly anonymous against Juventus.

15/16: I won't count anything before the knock-out matches since no one really took them seriously anyway. Against Porto and Spurs he had four really good matches, the team in general stomped both of them pretty much.
Against Liverpool he was rather anonymous in both matches (aside from scoring a tap in).

Generally speaking his record here is very mediocre, especially in the CL.

BL/Cup:
If we look at the matches vs Bayern he was rather anonymous in them (bar the 0:3 victory in Munich in 14/15), in the last cup final he also refused to take a penalty, so two CBs had to step up.

Thinking about it he really seems more like a follower than a leader. Not someone to step up or bail you out when things aren't going your way.
I must say I have similar observations having watched him play for your lot against bigger teams. Ozil has always had similar reputation, though, bar a couple of good performances against Barca and I'd gladly take a flat-track bully who'll at least rank up the numbers against lesser sides as this was perhaps our biggest problem (we have great record against bigger sides). Think Mourinho can elevate Miki's mental strength as well, to same extent anyway.

I am tired of the Premier League proven mantra. Leicester won the league ffs.
Last season was Payet's first season here. Did that stop hi being great?

I think that saying is more dead than ever. People who use it are looking for excuses.

Just give him a few games before judging him, either way. A lot seem to be jumping the gun. He was good for dortmund, and yes he's had some bad moments too.
Silly season really does drag out and repeat conversations.

If he signs, he'll be our most intelligent player since Berbatov. Always nice to see a well grounded, classy player on the pitch. Makes a change from watching Lingard running around with his tongue out, and the Dutch Balotelli roaming around Manchester in explicitly expensive cars.

Are people actually moaning that he likes to read? Mental.
not sure whether they're complaining or more highlighting that he speaks x no. of languages and likes to read in his spare time. I was just giving my 2 cents worth on the matter that it's a nice change from what a number of modern players come across as these days.

Copyright on his song now by the way...."oh Henrikh, oh oh oh. Oh Henrikh oh oh oh....he likes to read some books, and is intelligent...Oh Henrikh oh oh oh"

again, we are slow to close our "supposed" deals. Is it normal that we constantly drag on with these transfers? Mkhi's transfer was supposed to be done and dusted at the beginning of the week. Now, it's probably next week.

Zlatan, we've been hearing things before the Euro started.
Other clubs have deals that drag but you don't hear about them because you are not clicking refresh on their forums every few hours.

Plus the transfer window hasn't even started. Buying players isn't like buying groceries where you just go pick what you want and pay. Lots of stakeholders and factors.

Patience.

Fees are obviously important as they affect the profitability of the club ultimately. Else why don't we just pay 80m for everyone? Point is as a club, there should always be negotiations.

But whether the price quoted for Henrikh is high or not is not solely dependent on the fact he is on his last year. Players can sign extensions any time and the price gets bumped. A year is a Long time and the player's head can get turned. As Long as the club thinks he can contribute and is worth that amount, then it should be paid.

Man Utd sign Mkhitaryan on a high fee - the caf complains that a 35 year old with 1 year left in his contract is not worth that much.

Man Utd sign Ibrahimovic for free - the caf complains that a 50 year old on a free transfer means something is wrong with him because if not PSG would have offered him a new contract.

:wenger::lol:

BBC: Utd make improved offer
Man Utd have also made an improved offer for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and are awaiting a reply

This seems to be another confirmation of the watzke comments to Der Westen. MUFC placed a better offer on the table, the BVB meeting on the weekend will allow Mkhitaryan to become a MUFC player.

Mkhitaryan and Zlatan in one weekend :drool:

We are playing a blinder at the moment. Confirm Kante or Pogba as well after the Euros and I will rub myself into a coma.

According to Kicker the new offer is 42.5M € which would be a new record for Dortmund when it comes to selling players. They really should take this offer and reinvest the money in Schürrle and Götze or whoever.

Isn't this sorta bad news in a way? I was under the impression we had him just about signed.. If we are making a new offer that means we're not as progressed as I thought and BVB could still reject the offer

With this offered fee, the transfer will happen for sure.

The new offer was supposedly made a few days ago. Sky and The Times say £26M, German press say a different amount. It looks like it will be confirmed next week, after Ibra is confirmed this week.

Don't worry, this is done. The Dortmund board have to formally approve the offer. Just bureaucratic nonsense.

Does this mean Dortmund def. wont sell Auba to City?

Well in this case the source of the info was Dortmund themselves, who confirmed all this days ago. New bid, making a decision by the weekend, want it sorted before training starts. Nothing new here.
