I think BVB is just holding out for a higher price. I know he's running out of time on contract but they paid £25m for him and I'm sure they will let him go at £30m.
To be fair they didn't sell Lewandowski when they had the chance, if Dortmund think they can't replace him for that money I doubt they will sell...although I hope they will since Mkhitaryan would bring so much creativity to our team.

@Sphaero Do you think that Dortmund will be interested by a Brandt financed by United?

Dortmund paid €25mil for him so £21.5mil so United should not at any point pay over £25m for him.

He's improved since then but he's in his last year and at £25m Dortmund get there money back plus a little more.

Better than losing him on a free and losing €25m business wise it makes no sense.

The price of around 30 million sounds fair with only 1 year left. He's a 50 million player (if he was tied down) who happens to be available due to the contract situation.

Too many reliable sources going with this story to be false, would be an excellent addition. Think we should just stump up the €30m and be done with it.

I dont think they will be a clear #2 next season. Depends on if they can keep hold of Auba and sign good replacements for Hummels and Gundogan and for Mkhi if he leaves as well. Wolfsburg and Leverkusen will give them a run for their money.
Wonder how long Auba will hang around after all the major departures. We just have to make sure we get Mkhi signed before City up their bid for Auba then there would be a real possibility of them keeping Mkhi for another season.

Herrera
Schweinstiger
Schneiderlin
Martial
Zlatan
Mhkitaryan

Him and a rejuvinated midfield can give us a really good chance of winning the league

My opinion: No.

We were really interested before he went to Leverkusen years ago, but he thought that at Leverkusen he gets more playtime. Now he is just to average for us. Also not the player like micki, brandt plays more wider, and doesnt got the defense skills of Micki. He wouldnt help us.
Another point is, that i dont think Leverkusen wants to sell another player after Castro to us (they showed this in the case of Toprak) especially their best talent they got.

But everything can happen. Iam personaly very curious who we would buy if an offer comes in we dont reject.

Apologies for asking such a lazy question but can I ask how many of those who have watched him regularly know how good he actually is and to what extent he'd be a good fit at United? I remember reading a player we'd been linked with recently as a 'Liverpool-type' signing but could not remember if it was Mkhitaryan. Let's hope not. Either that or the person was talking nonsense!

Thanks in advance to all those willing to take the time to give some insight!

He's had a brilliant season, contributed to so many Dortmund goals. Comfortable on the ball and direct. Sometimes likes to hold on to the ball too much though. Dortmund were very prolific though last season and much to that owes a lot to the system they play. They had almost 5 players scoring double digits amount of goals in the league alone including 25 for Auba.

Its easy to forget Miki was terrible in front of goal the season before when Kloppo was still there. It's hard to see how he would fit in at United. He can play the No.10 role but he plays a sort of dynamic wide forward role, roaming in and out for Dortmund. Its actually a strange system they play because when you watch the game, Miki goes wide and forward and Schmelzer overlaps him as a wing back OR Kagawa moves in front of him which lets him move more central during possession. Traditionally you would only have the Fullback overlapping the winger but TT's Dortmund seem to have more fluidity.

I think its the fact that TT wants to somehow incorporate Miki, Rues and Kagawa without taking away none of their creative freedom and it has worked really well this season. I think he can shine for us however he needs that support to let him roam and get forward. Just look at Kagawa and his time here to see how different systems doesn't always work for certain players. I'm not saying Miki can't adapt but he's not a traditional winger or No. 10, that's for sure.

Thanks, I thought about Brandt because Mör, Dembélé and Pulisic can play centrally.

How was Mkhitaryan before last season? Is it a one off or is it consistent?

Wow, in 2013/2014 he almost matches a lot of the stats he produced this season, but in nearly half the amount of games.

I wonder what sort of goals/assists he would have got that season if he played 30 games?

His stats are actually better in his first season if you do it per 90 minutes, not sure what interceptions have to do with an attacking midfielder though.

Dortmund were really dreadful the season before last. They were bottom of the league up until around Christmas so the whole team were not performing, not just Miki. His first season he spent quite a long time out injured too.

Thanks, so hes good every other season. Not looking forward to next season with him then lol. Wouldn't mind him at all, an upgrade on Lingard definitely and Valencia.
The middle season was the one where Dortmund were at the bottom of the table in December

Ah ok, forgot about that. Hes forgiven then for having an off season. Hope we get him, think he will make a good impact here with Zlatan up front, also means we have a lot of money left over for a marquee signing.

Interceptions are important. He is not only an attacking midfielder! He is our "overall"-midfielder. Tuchel uses him just like you have to use him with his skills. Thatswhy he was the best Bundesliga player by far, and much morre important our best player in all competitions. He has got severel tasks to do in a game. Describing him and his style of play as only "an attacking midfielder" you dont describe him very well.

For me, its the best player ive ever watched at Dortmund.

Not seen him play much really, but from youtube, word of mouth etc, I'm all for this.

From what little I have seen, he can play left, centre or on the right, hard working and has a cracking shot on him with both feet

Slig guy reminds of Everton fans in newbies when we appointed Moyes, for some reason.

I saw somebody mention that the defensive side of his game was good too so i thought I'd add those stats in just to show he can defend too.

The other 2 on the last year of their contracts move fuss free, I knew it wouldn't be that simple with the one we want.

If his personality is as sensitive as suggested then I don't see how forcing him to stay will result in getting much out of him on the pitch. Hopefully it's a tactic to bleed more money out of us. Hummels went for £30M I think so it will probably take about the same for Mkhitaryan, but with Reus out until next year it could be even more difficult.

Well, that explains why you are so adamant to keep him another year...

Those matches and minutes numbers are wrong.

He had a decent season in 13-14 but nothing like his 15-16 year.

For some reason the games and minutes played stats from his 13/14 season are completely wrong. He played in 31 Bundesliga matches and had 2452 league minutes that year.
31 Bundesliga, 10 champions league and 5 DFB-Pokal.

You're right those stats for 13/14 are incorrect but the goals and assists etc seem correct.

£31.7million, way more than we should be paying for a player on his last year of his contract.

I don't get this. The thing is, if he wasn't in his last year, they wouldn't sell even for 50, so now he is and 30 million is not outrageous.

Why is 31m unlikley? Our opening bid was 20m odd.
I get this feeling reading other forums and twitter that German fans don't want to see him leave. Every article and post has to tell us how he will stay until 2017. It's very strange.
The exact same thing happened during KDB transfer last season as well.
