Copa America 2015 | Tournament over, Eboue misses the final, everyone lols

Player to watch for the tournament btw, Bolanos for Ecuador. Absolutely class, been excellent every single time I've watched him. Carries Emelec at times, especially in the Copa Libertadores.

Just scored an absolute screamer. I really do watch far too much football.

Game 8: Chile - Mexico
Sanchez has one of the most punchable faces in football.

If we want to be a pedant they were technically the home team against USA in 1995:smirk:

How exactly? Bolivia is on the Andes, Uruguay is completely flat and on the other side of the continent. Are you purely basing it on distance? Language? From any other perspective there's a stronger case for the US to feel more at home. They are just seizing the opportunity of being in the weakest group I've ever seeen in a Copa América.

The 1995 side wasn't too bad actually, they only lost by a single goal to Germany at the World Cup and Marco Antonio Etcheverry was a better player than any the US had to offer at the time, possibly even since.

I didn't watch the game yet omw home from work. Usually I'd be mad because you spoilt it but not today. I basically picked the worst team but a draw and a win ain't too shabby :D

We want a Larissa-like photoshoot.

They were the designated home team for the game. E.g Home dressing room.

Nice response by Chile though. Great header Vidal.

Would be hilarious if Bolivia won their group. I think I would still be laughing through Christmas.

Anyone else watching on the BeIn Sport stream? Their co-commentator is awful, he sounds like that ex-Chelsea guy with a heavy accent who sometimes features on MotD 2 whose name I cannot remember.

Great save Bravo.

Honestly, what is the point in inviting CONCACAF teams to this fecking thing when they are going to send a B squad at best? I don't see much incentive. International experience I guess but I can't imagine many of the Copa players will become regulars for Mexico, for example.

Some perfectly executed headers on display tonight, wow.

Vidal and Raúl Jiménez with some crazy headers... great game, 3 goals in 10 minutes

100M Mexicans and countless more in the USofA.

Bollocks, just remembered this is Mexico.

Probably the two most insufferable sets of fans in football sharing that stadium.

Can't win really. :(

Another header, this one totally unmarked though, but a great move nonetheless. Edu Vargas, 2-2

Vargas is a different player for Chile. Hope he stays in the PL somehow.

As a Mexican-American, I can tell you that all of the Hispanics I know don't give two shits about the this tournament. It's not heavily advertised here and even if it were, they know their football. They'd know about the squads.

But YOU are watching, despite the squads. Many of them probably are as well. That's the point.

It's your NT after all, whatever the squad.

I'm not watching, actually. I checked the score and saw the squad. Realized that this Mexico squad wouldn't accomplish much but they are delightfully competitive right now. I don't know how many of them even get the BEin Sport that has broadcasting rights here. That's an extra channel you have to pay for. I can't imagine many have it.

But, to be clear, I was born in the States so I consider myself an American first, though I do root for Mexico a fair bit.

Good man, I can never wrap my head around people who do the opposite, being "All But Country that Adopted Him/His Parents".

Not surprised the broadcasting rights are a mess, that's what triggered the whole FIFA inquiry after all

The rights probably play a bigger part than any. The Gold Cup, for example, is being broadcasted by Fox and Univision, which is guaranteed viewership over here.

Yeah, and the whole logic of inviting Mexico was selling the rights to Univision, which has always been the norm.

In fact, I can't grasp how they gave themselves away by making such ridiculous deals, anyone with half a brain can work out it makes no sense as an outcome from a fair competitive tender.

Me either. You're printing money if Univision got the rights. BEin must've offered an unreal amount.
