Do you think there will be a Deal or No Deal?

I think Eastern European migrants were the biggest contributers to the economy because they were generally young so healthy, had fewer children and often returned to their home nations. I.e. they paid taxes but were not an economic burden on the state through use of public services like hospitals & schools.
That and the fact there are a lot less of them and they all tend to actually be in employment. It's such a bullshit statistic that...

Trying to figure out how those comments can't be a pisstake.

No they haven't. Fake news.

What impact on society, hearing people speaking another language, I used to do that when I lived in the UK, my wife and I spoke to each other in French in public so people couldn't understand what we were saying, must have driven the locals insane.
Oh nice re France.

Well even if it’s the perception f it turning non-English speaking that’s enough. My point is try to understand what folks are actually feeling instead of just belittling and constantly telling them they are wrong or their fears are unfounded. Otherwise there’ll be more Trump moments IMHO.

Where the uk building industry relies on eastern Europeans to exist, the Dutch builders I've had at my house have nothing but contempt for them, and this at a time when there is enough work for everyone.

Why would Dutch builders being xenophobic be a surprise to anyone?

I'm old enough and ugly enough to have experienced life in the UK before and after they entered the EU or EEC. If it's not the EU citizens who'll get the blame, it'll be those from other countries or if not them the Commonwealth immigrants, if not them it'll be the Irish, if not them the Scots and the Welsh, if not them it'll be the those from up north or those from down south or east or west or country or town or even from the next village or the bloke next door.

My point is it's nothing new and the government encourage this xenophobia to deflect attention away from their failures. What do I care where my next door neighbour comes from or what language he's speaking, I'd rather be concerned at what type of character he has and how his behaviour affects me.

That’s a fair post re the immigration debate in general.

Slightly cynical IMO but then again I’m fairly young so don’t have tangible experience pre EU.

Immigration is just one slither of the (EU) issue (for me personally anyway).

Ps pardon my poorly worded posts, iPhone typing is so tedious!

BigBill from London has revealed the reason!!
:lol:Trying to imagine whether some fat guy in London really has a vein throbbing in his temple while he fumes about smaller chips cos of the EU or it's just someone taking the piss. Could very believably be either.

Hi Labour, what’s your actual position on Brexit?

“Go feck your self” is the correct response? Odd.

Opposition ministers have absolutely no obligation to answer petty little demands from government ministers, and even less when said ministers phrase it in demanding terms. “Go feck yourself” is exactly the response that letter deserves.

Alternatively if Keir wants to be nicer, he could respond with something like “Dear Raab, I’d be happy to answer your questions, just as soon as you explain to the country exactly why we’re staring down the barrel of a huge economic disaster brought about solely by the arrogance of the last prime minister and the abject incompetence of the current one. I look forward to hearing your excuses for why future generations of British people may well face much harder lives than their parents did”.

Not a fan of referendums then huh?

Wasn’t it brought as a question to the people precisely because it’s such a complex / emotive topic that has no clear answer, not forgetting the difference of opinion amongst the politicians we’ve elected.

And re Labour just telling them to feck off, pls don’t complain when they are taken as a laughing stock on the topic, or not heard whatsoever.

It’s Labour summed up: no idea what, we don’t have to tell you anything....but we know that you are wrong (whatever you are saying).

Laughable

Ps guys guys guys - I think the Scottish people need another one to see if this is the ‘In’ they all voted for! :p

No one is seen as more of a laughing stock on the issue of brexit than the government.

10 month process, points based. My medical health, financial health, qualifications, etc etc were all scrutinised (despite being married to a Canadian!).

Thanks for making my point; this is what regular folks are fighting for in the UK!

If you're such an asset to Canada surely you're simultaneously an equal loss to the UK? I presume you benefited from UK healthcare, education and other social services during your childhood and youth. By moving to Canada you're taking away the return on the investment the British public has made in you, all while you benefited without having to contribute anything (until you became working age). How is that morally any better than someone moving to the UK for the benefits!?

Canada has one of the highest emigration rates p/c in the world and is pretty piss easy to get into and stay if you want to. You picked a pretty f*cking terrible example to try prove your point, especially when their PM constantly states how important immigration is to them.

The EU doesn’t need us, we need them so much more....our delusion is absurd, oh wait:

What? It’s a fact she’s only getting 10 minutes, I just happened to link to an Express article about it. There are many many many articles saying the same, google it. You think it’s fake? Jesus Christ stop being so tedious!

So lets say these reports are correct.

First of all getting the right deal is more of a pressing issue to the UK then the EU. Sure we're all bracing for a financial hit. There again, its not the EU whose forfeiting a trade deal with more then 60 countries + unrestricted access to the very continent it makes part of.

Secondly Brexit is not the EU's doing. No other EU country wanted it and we stood helpless as the UK voted to shoot at its feet and that of every single country in the EU. Throughout that time, people who likened the EU to nazism were promoted, while everything under the sun, from the EU institutions to EU court right to EU migrants were blamed of basically everything that is wrong in the UK.

But that is not all. While the EU brought at the table one of the most experienced trade deal negotiators in Europe, the UK did diddly squat for most of the time. First the UK PM resigned, then the EU waited patiently for the UK to actually activate article 50, then the UK triggered a general elections which ended up weakening the government, then that same government placed a lazy idiot who barely ever bothered meeting Barnier for trade talks and who thought that its possible to make trade deals with individual EU countries, then it came out with ridiculous proposals which was cherry picking only to settle for the so called Chequers deal

So seriously can you blame the EU for not spending every second left to discuss a deal which will probably be voted out in parliament or worse still modified few months later? FFS it cant even commit itself to pay what the UK owns the EU, after the former AGREED to pay for it in the first place. I am actually surprised the EU is still negotiating at this point. I would expect the EU to take a hardline approach threatening to ground every single plane going out of the UK and into Europe up until the UK pays every penny it owns the EU in cash.

After the last couple of years I'd guess the former.
Those evil EU dictators are now even controlling the rainfall.

He may be right, we've only had about 1mm of rain since early June.

We had a bit of a soggy August after the heatwave tbf. The story is obviously stupid, but the weird conflation of the EU and Europe, the geographic land mass of which we are part of, is odd. After we leave the EU are we guaranteed more tuber friendly weather:confused:

No but we are guaranteed* trade deals with places that grow them.

*not guaranteed

Why is that bullshit?
Because the averages are skewed because in a countries population it is safe to assume that a certain amount of people will be unemployed or low income earners. Immigrants to a country nearly always have full employment so of course it would show the average per person is higher, because the two statistics are not created equally. Also, a lot of immigrants tend to take up skilled employment as doctors, financial advisors, IT specialists, etc. and those jobs always have a higher salary so of course more tax is paid. It's like saying the average height of immigrants is higher than the average height of nationals, it might be true but the samples to create the statistic are heavily influenced by a higher number of factors for nationals than for immigrants.

If you were to base those samples on profession then you would see different results I bet.

I'm not following you to be honest. Those are the variables that the report is supposed to be demonstrating, aren't they?

The mexican standoff charade now reaches its climax. Perversely this is probably good news for the Rees-Moggers, they can sit back and let May deliver the No deal brexit they have their hearts set on.
