Do you think there will be a Deal or No Deal?

  • Total voters
    194
  • Poll closed .
I meant what is in for them? There must be a benefit for them I assume.

That their young citizens would get (relative) freedom of movement in a country that many of them previously (and still do) visit and work in, as the largest speaking english country in the continent.

Why would the EU want this and why would Labor be against it? Afraid of the gammon vote?
Because they are afraid of countries like Turkey joining the EU and do having loads of young Turkish men coming as they please to the U.K. strikes fear into the oldie voters

Probably to attract the best and brightest from the UK as the country sinks and perhaps to repatriate those who go to the UK and bring back their experience and English skills. I imagine there would also be some soft power influence

Next up - exit visas for anyone wanting to leave the UK to prevent the brain drain

Fecking traitor! You'd be added to the hit list if anyone could find it. The person looking after it was signed off sick by a doctor so we had them executed for being workshy.
I saw the light but it took me 30+ years and I left a few years before the Brexit vote :D

It's not possible and never has been possible for Brexit to be a success and never will be. Covid and Ukraine have been a brilliant excuse for the UK government because they used it to convince the public that that's the reason, whilst also lying about how they were brilliant at dealing with Covid because the UK left the EU. How gullible can a nation be?
Covid and Ukraine has affected every country in the world.

So what is or was expected: Lower immigration - no - told you so - higher immigration - lower from the EU but much higher from elsewhere.

Taken back control - no - what of - unless the UK up anchor and separate themselves from the rest of the world - they have to deal with the international community and abide by international laws including trade laws and human rights laws and many others.

Democracy - haha - government now does what it likes with no accountability. Wave a flag.

Trade - the UK always traded with the rest of the world but somehow the brexiters convinced the gullible otherwise. What's more the UK have far less deals and access to global trade than they did when they were in the EU.

Saving money - no - still paying what they owe plus Farage's pension etc - and the cost in hundreds of billions in loss trade and income.

Stop Freedom of movement - that killed the dream for millions of Britons. When these fools are fingerprinted next year when they go on holiday to the EU, it will be so hilarious.

Now what are they expecting:
New checks and costs - it's what they wanted should have been in place a few years ago but they got a grace period. Should kill trade a little more.

Trade deals: Aus & NZ - they'd have been better off without them.
CPTPP - not even ratified yet - complete waste of time.
India - if that ever happens it's for India to sell their services to the UK not a benefit for the UK.
Other hopefuls - Canada and the USA not interested.

Starmer even said he wasn't even going to try.

Only hope is Starmer learns and Customs Unions and Single Markets - or the best hope Labour get voted in and the remove him and replace him with someone with a backbone and knowledge

Freeports: We'll let the poor souls discover the next catastrophic decision.

Trade deals: Aus & NZ - they'd have been better off without them.

Australia loved this deal. Great terms for Australia due to the Tories being prepared to get reamed as long as they had a trade deal to wave about.

Hilariously Australia's greatest concession was relaxing working holiday visa regulations. Given we desperately need people to pick our produce, in places Australian's generally don't want to live, which is very hard work for not great money it was another bonus for Australia.

Just wait to they get really desparate and agree one with the US, cholrinated chicken and GM food!

Yes it was good deal for Australia, nothing in it for the UK. The EU have signed a much better deal with NZ than the UK did but the Australia/EU discussions collapsed a few months ago.

Had been shipping to Australia since the early 90s and it was the most pain in the a*se country to ship to after India. Especially as the UK love red tape so much.

The UK are/were desperate for anything and have now got their hopes pinned on the CPTPP and India which will be worthless to them. These countries want to sell to the UK not buy from them.

It’s somewhat ironic that the U.K. go cap in hand to India begging them to buy their products after what colonial Britain did to that region

Yes, but the Brexit mob like Mogg and co., because of their exceptionalism, think they these 'developping countries' are interested in buying British products. What has the UK got that they want to buy? If they want and can afford 'western goods' they'll buy from nearer to home like Japan or Australia plus they want to develop their own industries, which is why they are called developping countries.

So the Brexit mob - first started shouting WTO WTO WTO, then it was No Deal No Deal No Deal and now Its CPTPP CPTPP CPTPP , not having a clue what the consequences of this was and believing all the bs from people like Mogg, Truss, Widdecombe , Badenoch -the list goes on.

One day reality will hit although they won't admit it.

The reality

"Plans unveiled by the Business Secretary include proposals to remove regulations that make it hard for pubs, restaurants and cafes to get permission to serve customers outside."

What EU regulations prevent this?

That is the only reference to pavement dining in the entire article.

Kemi Badenoch yesterday announced a package of reforms to boost businesses.

Plans unveiled by the Business Secretary include proposals to remove regulations that make it hard for pubs, restaurants and cafes to get permission to serve customers outside.

Pubs could also be given the automatic right to sell takeaway pints. Temporary allowances were granted during the pandemic but are due to expire next year.

Yesterday's package will also loosen some regulations on gambling, including allowing bingo halls to install fruit machines.

And the official definition of a medium-sized business will be doubled to those with 500 employees, removing thousands of smaller firms from onerous red tape, such as the requirement to publish 'strategic reports'.

Small firms like cafes and corner shops could be permitted to 'self-certify' for some functions, meaning they would not be 'subjected to needless inspections or mandatory training courses' before they can serve customers.

Mrs Badenoch is also introducing a Whitehall principle that extra regulations should only be imposed when 'absolutely necessary'.

And regulators will be given a new 'growth duty' requiring them to show that they are helping firms to grow 'at every opportunity'.

She said a regulation programme introduced in the wake of Brexit had already cut 50million hours of business admin per year, saving firms an estimated £1billion.

'This Government is seizing the benefits of Brexit by reducing burdens on business, pushing down the cost of living, and driving growth in every corner of the economy,' Mrs Badenoch said.

'These reforms will give entrepreneurial businesses more opportunity to innovate, experiment, and capitalise on the UK's global leadership in key sectors.'

Business leaders welcomed the news.

Tina McKenzie, of the Federation of Small Businesses, said that smaller firms 'suffer more' from badly designed rules and 'contradictory regulatory requirements'.

She added: 'We're especially pleased that the Government has adopted the principle of regulating as a last resort, instead of as a first response.

"Brexit didn't turn out as people anticipated" - it did, but it's not over by a long chalk and there's worse to come.

"The country was designed for 55 or 60m people" - When was this? 1000 years ago, 100 years ago or maybe the government should provide the services according to what the population is. I mean when the population was 20 million the services must have been incredible. What a numpty.

Not to worry, United fans:(

the other thing about that quote is that Brexit was sold to us to lower immigration but it’s gone the opposite way, which again anyone with any sense predicted beforehand

Exactly - remember when they insisted that there were too many Europeans and not enough from the rest of the world (nod and a wink) .

with guys as clearly switched on as Jim economically I simply don’t believe they were genuine in their vocal support for Brexit as a good move for the country. For whatever reason business or personal he felt it suited him and that’s it. There’s no way someone could look at the situation and not see a glaring hole that would need to be filled by more migrants

In my experience it wasn't the owners of companies but the team behind them that determined the success of the company.
Brexit for him was about taxes and probably personal.
Ironically he lives in just about the most densely populated country in the world. How do they cope?

Having your own swimming pool with a view of the sea in the Mediterranean sun probably helps.

Britain would be a lot better if everyone had a pool
