Further to that the consultation this is all based on shows the following:

https://www.gov.uk/government/consu...on-units-of-measurement-consultation-response

What the responses said
17) The results of our analysis showed that 98.7% of respondents were in favour of using metric units when buying or selling product, either as the primary unit of sale (maintaining status quo) or as the sole unit of sale (purely metric). 1.3% of respondents were in favour of increased use of imperial units when buying or selling products, either by increased choice between using metric and imperial units or moving to a purely imperial system.

18) The breakdown of responses into the 4 categories is as follows:

Overall preferenceNumber of responsesPercentage of responses
Status quo (keep metric as primary unit of measurement)81,86781.1%
More choice (open to increased use of imperial measures)8700.9%
Purely metric (completely metric system)17,79817.6%
Purely imperial (completely imperial system)4030.4%
Total100,938100%

Certifiably stupid.

Wait so they did this to satisfy 1.3% of people?

‘We’re out of step’: how post-Brexit UK is drifting from EU standards
The UKCA quality standard is imposing unwelcome costs, from chemicals to construction materials

This is an article that sheds some small insight into some of the problems of Brexit which will become more apparent as time passes. Industry in the UK is beginning to wake up and anyone involved in industry or trading in the Uk will be starting to curse themselves if they thought Brexit would be a good idea.

The Tories don't care as long as attention is diverted away from their incompetence and they can persuade the electorate that the EU and or foreigners were to blame for the country's woes.

Unfortunately for the country, Starmer has bought into the rhetoric and probably believes that Brexit can work more than the Tories - so at present there's no light at the end of the tunnel.

UK - there's pandemic on the rise, let's get them vaccines in arms

EU - There's a pandemic on the rise, we need to get vaccines in arms. Yeah but we need approval from so many governing bodies. Let's wait, not enough people have died yet

Stupid post, UK secured their vaccines using EU protocols.

Brexit bonus? Was the EU stopping the shellfish in question from growing or being harvested? I'll guess the answer is no.

So we have a (debatably) new product that could have been sold far more easily, cheaply to a much larger market if we hadn't left. These giggling fools are truly embarrassing.

makes the "pint of wine" almost seem a reasonable talking point

Hang on, shouldn't they check to make sure these aren't foreign shellfish invading by the backdoor?

You can never be surprised by the total idiocy of Brexit.

The Prime Minister and Home Secretary actually visit Saaffeend to view the site of where the clams have been found, which can't be sold or eaten.

Brexit bonus. Desperation knows no bounds.

Mussels in the Thames have declined by 95% since the 1960s

There is no coincidence that this happens at the same time as the UK's membership of the EU. Bet you can't counter that Paul.

Sunak says, in protecting international shipping, the UK is upholding international law. (Ho Ho Ho!)

The Houthis’ attacks on international shipping have put innocent lives at risk, he says. They have held one crew hostage for almost two months and they are causing growing economic disruption. Global commerce cannot operate under such conditions. Containers and tankers are having to take a 5,000-mile detour around the Cape of Good Hope.

This is pushing up prices, and reducing consumers’ access to vital goods, he says.

And he says people should not accept the “malign narrative” that this is about Israel and Gaza. It isn’t, he says; it is about protecting shipping.

See Sunak and Shapps sh!tting themselves about focussing on trade on the other side of the world. Could be a few awkward questions as to why .

Although obviously they haven't seen a satellite map of what the ships are actually doing and that it won't make any difference to their new trade deals as a) they're worthless and b) the CPTPP doesn't come into effect until after the GE at the end of the year.

I've warned people that Brexit could happen anywhere with the right circumstances. People think it was just Brits being stupid but that was only part of it.

All far right politicians want to cause as much disruption as possible throughout the world in all countries.
Sadly the UK fell for it because they were lied to and so badly informed. (And they have more than their fair share of gullible and stupid people).

https://www.euractiv.com/section/po...germans-including-far-right-back-the-eu-poll/

EU membership is strongly supported by an overwhelming 87% of Germans, with most far-right voters also in favour of remaining in the bloc, according to a new poll published on Thursday (Nov 2023).

Brexit trade checks will cost £330m a year. Starmer must revisit this disastrous deal
by Simon Jenkins

The price of the Tories’ new border regime beggars belief. In a cost of living crisis, it’s a bill we can’t afford

While sheer exhaustion might postpone the question of the UK returning to the EU, that need not apply to the customs unions and treaties that form Europe’s economic area.

This moron, Jenkins, was a pro-Brexiteer.

It beggars belief how moronic these people are. He doesn't understand what he's voted for, he still thinks there's some kind of menu that can be picked from. He still thinks Brexit can be renegotiated .He doesn't understand what a Customs Union is and means. He doesn't want all the inconvenience and costs that he promoted. This is what you wanted.

:lol:I googled Simon Jenkins worst columnist and these were in the top three. They're from 2012 and 2013, so seems he's long been regarded as dreadful.
I was trying to find a compilation of worst hits I remember- the guy is wrong on everything.

Hmm, somebody pays him for trotting out rubbish.

His colleague on the Guardian, Larry Elliott, another Brexiter, was apparently in the year above me at my school but I don't remember him. he's a tw@t as well.

Tourists heading to Europe could face 14-hour queues at Dover from October
New EU entry-exit system could lead to gridlocked roads if scheme goes ahead as planned, MPs hear

So the implementation of this scheme has been known for years. the Uk were even part of the original plans for the scheme way back when , but MPs have only just become aware ?

The chair of the committee, Sir Bill Cash, total moron and Brexiter who had no idea what he voted for, said: “Queues of more than 14 hours, vehicles backed up along major roads, businesses starved of footfall: this evidence paints an alarming picture of the possible risks surrounding the entry-exit system’s implementation.
