Do you think there will be a Deal or No Deal?

  • Total voters
    194
  • Poll closed .
Of course it looks like both Labour and the Conservatives are going to have to come up with a European Election Manifesto now. I can't even begin to guess what they'll be.
Labours cover page will have a pic of Corbyn sitting on a fence

Not really. 75% support parties committed to Leaving, only 25% Remain.

That's definitely how it will be spun, but a huge chunk of that Labour vote will be Remainers and I would imagine you're getting pretty close to just being left with Remainers in the Tories numbers as all well seeing as the nutters have gone off to the party rebooted after 3 months because it was run by racists.

The challenge for parties like the Greens, Lib Dem and CUK, is to convince people that voting for an overtly pro-Remain party (if that's your persuasion) is more important than tribal loyalty in this election, and the challenge for Labour is to consider whether they will win the most seats if they take a pro EU stance.

Alan Johnson, who ran the Labour remain campaign, said 66% of the Labour party voted to remain.

Yep, that's the number commonly banded around, but that is based on 2015. If you look at 2017, it is a bit tighter with 54% of Labour voters having supposedly voted Remain vs 24% leave.

That is the tightrope that Labour have tried to walk, but there seems little sense in me in trying to out Brexit the Brexit parties. If people are inclined to vote for Farage et. al. then they're not going to be won back by Labours vision for Brexit (or at least they can't be without finally losing the Remainer vote entirely).

The EU elections are a 'God send' for Nigel Farage and both May's Government and the EU have combined to give him an opportunity to 'rise from the dead'. You couldn't make it up could you... oh yes we just have!

Perhaps Farage is the only one who knows what he's doing?

It would be great if the BBC didn't give full blown coverage to Farage. Really doesn't give much credence to the idea that all speech is valid as then the bad ideas will be found out. That really doesn't work if a third of the country are absolute idiots.

And when news presenters/reporters don't hold them to account or check their facts....

But he is.

I like Corbyn as a protest vote option. But the man to run the country? Nah.

He won't be winning any GE. Winning the pre-election polls will be the the height of his political achievments.

It's funny how things work out. Remember 2010, when Farage was a UKIP candidate and he was involved in a light plane crash? I was amazed he walked away from that with just minor injuries, because the plane was wrecked.

I sometimes wonder if he feels he has a charmed life.

He's a cowardly populist. He agitates from the sidelines know he'll never have the heavy burden of actual power, all the while earning top 5% money from his profile.

No, the party leadership have been crystal clear on their commitment to honouring the referendum. If the membership are unhappy about that they should do something about it, but there's no sign of that happening.
They've been crystal clear about feck all

I think this country is permanently fecked.

Its just a split of the Tory vote in meaningless elections, isn't it. They'd all decamp back to usual positions in the event of a GE I'd guess, but even if they didn't, wouldn't it be a win for Labour? Don't forget that UKIP dominated the last EU elections simply because no one expect for hard line leavers gave a damn about the EU elections.

Yeah I did think that. Clearly someone is fecking up.
Going onto Britain Elects website, it looks like the Brexit Party has lost 5% of its voters within 1 day

(Both Yougov polls)

Or more likely, whatever method is being used to poll these people is flawed a strongly shows current events rather than long term trends.

My guess is the EU election polls are all over the place because it's generally a much harder election to predict than a UK one...with the added volatility of Brexit added onto that. Throw in a new party or two and you've got a recipe for chaos. But consistently seems like the Tories aren't doing well.

Might not be the worst move tactically for the conservatives to not field candidates (can't loose if you don't play) and spin it as being because they feel we shouldn't be taking part.. will of the people from the first referedu m ... Lets them put all resources into the local elections as well

In some ways its their only move, after all if May is serious about bringing us out of the EU, just what is the point?
The two questions most Conservatives will ask themselves over Easter is exactly that, is she serious and if we are leaving the EU why waste time/energy/money on fighting these 'non-elections'?

The Brexit Party is fighting in these elections as a protest vote over 'not leaving' and most of the other smaller parties including the Liberals 'are very serious' about these elections, wanting us to remain in the EU, so everyone knows where these groups (including the Brexit Party) stands, that only leaves Labour? What on earth will be their platform?

This is the point at which if Labour is to tear itself apart over Brexit it will be on the Rock of the EU elections, with inner city constituencies and some southern areas all wanting to remain and/or a second referendum, but with most of its strongholds in the North wanting a 'unicorn' Brexit solution, both of which seem at the present at least, totally unobtainable with May in power!

Therefore even more pressure heaped on Jeremy after the Easter break, he of all party leaders cannot afford the spectacle of participating in the EU elections without Brexit being settled first... which way will he jump? And if he does 'jump' (to support May) will his faithful Momentum buddies follow him over his own version of the Brexit Cliff edge?

I think a few in Europe might think they had cocked up somewhere along the line if May decided that. All UK MEPs would be either troublesome Brexit loons or left wingers, and the latter might be enough to swing the balance of power in Europe to the left, to the consternation of some.

EU - Britain seems to be not understanding how serious a undertaking leaving the european union is and at the moment is simply wasting time.
