Probably our POTY up to this point in the season
Don’t be that guy. He was absolutely horrendous individually last season, whilst being pretty incredible this season.Hate to be that guy but since I got absolute pelters in here last season...I told you so!
Felt he came in last season more focused on being a leader at the back than the best gk he could be. Seemed to lose concentration often. This year he's just knuckled down and it's paying off.Don’t be that guy. He was absolutely horrendous individually last season, whilst being pretty incredible this season.
It’s possible for him to be bad and then improve!
He had some shocking performances last season, particularly in the Champions League. However, his poor form was vastly overblown outside of that. In the second half of last season, he was very solid and largely cut out the mistakes. Yet, you'd still come on here, and people were micro-analysing every goal we conceded in the most tedious manner imaginable. I still think a lot of it stemmed from the De Gea fanboys, who couldn't let go of the idea he wasn't a top player anymore. Even last season, Onana was a huge upgrade on De Gea, and he was given precisely zero opportunity to settle into a new team and league by a large portion of fans. I will never understand the reactionary nature of football fans in truth.Don’t be that guy. He was absolutely horrendous individually last season, whilst being pretty incredible this season.

Used to have mini heart attacks over the years whenever a ball was crossed into our box with DDGHis cross claiming is absolutely elite. So good.
Yep. This was by far my biggest gripe about DDG. Legend but even in his prime he was so shaky with set pieces and crosses. Was really frustrating to watch other keepers just pluck crosses out the air like it was nothing!Used to have mini heart attacks over the years whenever the ball a crossed into our box with DDG
I'm sure our defenders were always nervous as well, so much calmer now having a keeper fully in command of his box and always aggressive and proactive towards balls flung his way rather than waiting for the danger to develop before reacting.
Been a night and day difference when it comes to defending set pieces and long balls given Onana being the furthest thing from timid between the sticks.
And de Gea was some 2 cm taller than Onana. It doesn’t stop Andre from claiming crosses one bitYep. This was by far my biggest gripe about DDG. Well blow me. Must be a first. It's quite impressive that he needed a full season to adapt to the club and play to his potential. You don't often see that in football
Been impressed with him lately, but him standing still on his line when he knows how dangerous Arsenal are on corners - and when the ball was so close to the goal on both occasions - is shockingly poor goalkeeping.
In the first half alone Onana catched/punched more crosses than DDG used to get to over the whole seasonBeen impressed with him lately, but him standing still on his line when he knows how dangerous Arsenal are on corners - and when the ball was so close to the goal on both occasions - is shockingly poor goalkeeping.
So DDG and Onana are both best in Europe this season
The man has been outstanding this season, but it cannot be denied that his performance against Arsenal was suboptimal. These things happen. We match forward onward with a keeper who’s been performing at a very high level this season.
We all know thatAt shot stopping. I’m willing to bet big money I know which one of them is better with the ball at his feet and dealing with crosses.
It definitely can be denied. It’s just more of the irrational criticism that this thread is crammed with.
