I'm starting to utterly despise how he pushes the ball in the feet of opponents strikers and then looks like deer in headlights.
He’s basically Barthez.
I didn't like him at Ajax and of course ETH thought otherwise. Hermansen at Leicester should be an upgrade.I think ultimately, a really good keeper wins you points when you don't deserve to win...Onana does the opposite and actually costs you points.
If Amorim has a really good keeper, we'd have picked up a fair few more points IMO and the pressure would be far less. He's simply nowhere near good enough.
Because it's trendy. Some never saw him play, others just watched or remember his second season at United. Even then, he wasn't as bad as Onana.I really dont understand the hate for Barthez.
He was nowhere near as bad for us as people seem to make him out here.
Im genuinely convinced he is pulling an Ali Dia stunt!
Even Taibi wasn’t this bad
You’ve only got to review 50% of the goals conceded since the turn of the year.I think ultimately, a really good keeper wins you points when you don't deserve to win...Onana does the opposite and actually costs you points.

His distribution was insanely good in that game, everyone was excited by that performance. Why do players never perform like they should here?I remember watching him vs city in the CL final and I thought he was world class in that game alone. Turns out he’s really not.
Are you accounting for the fact that if we sell him we'd need to sign a replacement goalkeeper which would add amortization + wages, on top of the loss we made on selling Onana for below his book value? You're failing to take into consideration the amortization and wages that we'd be on the hook for next season were we to keep him. The real PSR "breakeven" figure would be much lower than that.
He's been at the top of the ladder since about day 1 for me. He's been consistently atrocious and can't even do the very basics of a gk.It is impressive how he has climbed the ladder of players urgently needing to be replaced this season, creeping over flops like Maguire and Casemiro on his way to the top.
Fair, although I think we should shy away from an expensive replacement for now - try to identify a transitional keeper who can put in consistent 6-7/10 performances while we get everything else sorted out.Are you accounting for the fact that if we sell him we'd need to sign a replacement goalkeeper which would add amortization + wages, on top of the loss we made on selling Onana for below his book value?
It's not that we can't accept a penny less than book value but we can't be taking huge losses on our sales and then signing expensive replacements on top of that.
Id rather play a youth keeper than himFair, although I think we should shy away from an expensive replacement for now - try to identify a transitional keeper who can put in consistent 6-7/10 performances while we get everything else sorted out.
Exactly, Barthez has very good reflexes too and was a really good shot stopper. He was just a bit mad. Onana does not have the skills that Barthez has. I wouldn't mind a Barthez now to be honest.Because it's trendy. Some never saw him play, others just watched or remember his second season at United. Even then, he wasn't as bad as Onana.
He was the youngest GK to ever win the Champions League at the time (Marseille, 1993). He also played a major part when France won the WC and the Euros back to back (1998 and 2000).
Very composed under pressure, he had a great left foot as well, and was known for his quality distribution. His only (relative) weakness was crosses, in great part due to his lack of height.
Seeing him being compared to Onana is absolutely hilarious and tells you quite a bit about the poster and their football knowledge.
He's exactly like Barthez without the positive eccentricity. These are things Barthez would do.You must be incredibly young or just not clued up on Barthez at all.
Barthez was far superior than this clown and it’s incredible you would even try to either lower him to his level or up Onana to his.
Educate yourself.
Awful keeper, fails at the basics, he's very average in that sense.
Correction: he's a liability.I sincerely wish he was average
Many poor or average players have world class performances against top teams once in a while.I remember watching him vs city in the CL final and I thought he was world class in that game alone. Turns out he’s really not.
Barthez made mistakes but was a phenomenal agile shot stopper with great reflexes. Basically the complete opposite to Onana. He's exactly like Barthez without the positive eccentricity. These are things Barthez would do.
