I reckon the goal moved on that one, only possible explanation. He was really good but during a 10/10 performance he would have scored the 1-0 after that great pass from Zirkzee and not totally miss the goal.

I've been a huge fan of his the whole way through and have criticised ETH heavily for his lack of playing time but I wasn't expecting him to be this dogged and effective in defense. He is such a complete player, even being strong in the air. I reckon he could play almost anywhere except CB or in goal and give a solid performance.Notching up those assists. I didn't see the game but I was impressed from the highlights that two of our goals came from him pressing so effectively. I always assumed his size and lack of directness was why EtH preferred Rashford and Garnacho.
Ole didn't bring him it was Club led recruitment and he wasn't any better in his treatment of Amad either .
Amad could have hit his stride way sooner had he been shown bit more trust by his earlier managers and also not been unlucky with injuries .
Clearly talented, how on earth didn't he get any chances in the last seasons?
MOTM performance today
Agree with all of this, and I just want to reiterate that as much as I've rated Amad for a while, my stance was always that I wanted to see more talented players be given opportunities to shine instead of constant persistance with mediocrity or incompetence. No one can predict whether young/inexperienced players will instantly make it or not, but given our rock bottom floor as a team in recent years and seeming lack of players who can just "play good football" for 90 minutes (not saying score a wondergoal or do anything fantastic, but just help the general play of the team), I thought giving Amad a good run of games was an obvious choice that was simply never given any thought by ETH post Xmas. And then he compounded it after Amad saving his ass in the FA cup game by fully benching him another 5 games or so without hardly a kick when we were desperate for ideas in the team. The bolded first sentence is generous but going by that metric, we also can question/criticise when they can (aka can't in our case) see when a player is not playing well/tired (Garnacho/Rashford/Antony etc). Thus, they should then give another talented player, with the right skillset and work ethic a chance through subs and rotation. It's basically the whole crux of the 'why wasn't Amad playing more?' we find ourselves in. Except we keep seeing 'he was injured, wasn't ready, ETH sidelined because he did perform or is his style of player' etc still bandied about.
I've said this before but I have sympathy for ETH because it was evident in last year's pre-season he was hyped and ready to play both Mainoo and Amad. Unfortunately for him and them, both got injured. However, what I can't excuse is the over playing of Mainoo in the second half of the season and the lack of minutes given to Amad, when all our options were massively inconsistent (even Garnacho who was productive).
It's not 'scandalous' in the same way constantly playing McTominay (and asking him to abandon midfield) and Garnacho/Rashford despite their troubles (fatigue/form) last season was i.e all things to the detriment of our football. I can understand why ETH did it and it's because he didn't know what he was doing or couldn't achieve it. Except this cost him his job. That's pretty scandalous to me. Of course I'm not equating not playing Amad as the reason to his downfall but it was symptomatic of his reign here, a lack of adaptability and actual coaching to give the players a platform to perform.
Yeah that was rough, although I do think that's an underratedly difficult chance compared to how it looks at first glance. Tough technique to get right with the angle he was running in at and the angle/pace on the ball approaching. But he couldn't have gotten it any worseHe was really good but during a 10/10 performance he would have scored the 1-0 after that great pass from Zirkzee and not totally miss the goal.
Didn't realise Martinez was suspended... That's a shame. Shaw should do a good job in there in his place though. I guess Maz pretty much has to stay at CB then which means that unless he's dropping Malacia in at LWB against one of the best teams in the league, Dalot will probably start there and Amad on the other side. I do hope Garnacho is used as a super sub after the hour mark, he hasn't quite clicked in this system yet in my opinion.I honestly don't have a clue. Shaw will certainly play LCB because Martinez is suspended, and Ugarte will start as well. But I don't have the faintest idea on the front 3. I just hope Garnacho doesn't start. Would rather see some combo of Hojlund/Zirkzee/Mount/Bruno/Rashford/Amad for those 3 spots right now.
Looks to me like it'll be Dalot and Amad at WB again, hopefully Dalot rediscovers some form although I didn't think he was bad today. We have a higher chance of winning if Dalot gets benched and Maz plays LWB.
You're probably right, looks like that's what will happen anyway.I'm desperate to see Amad play as an AM but honestly I think Vs Arsenal I'd keep him at RWB. He is playing so well there at the moment I wouldn't change things around too much in such a tough game.
Agree, I'd keep Garnacho benched and waiting for that 70 minute mark if we can keep it tight. The tough decision is what to do with Rashford/Hojlund/Zirkzee. Rashford probably needs Zirkzee to play off of if he starts, while Hojlund would do better with Mount next to him instead of Rashford. All 3 are coming off of quality performances, so it probably depends ultimately on how Amorim wants to approach the game.Didn't realise Martinez was suspended... That's a shame. After watching him in that spot for two games the first thing that came t mind was: “good thing you didn’t waste a ton of money on someone like Frimpong”
I’m sure Amad can do well in multiple spots, but wingback is so pivotal for what you want to do and he looks SO good. I was shocked at his defensive energy.
Good for him.
His goal against Liverpool last season came from him pressing well in fairness. Ever since he's back from loan, he's been a pressing machine. I think it's the combination of both his quality on the ball and his off the ball work that makes him undroppable.great performance. i don't think anyone saw it coming that it would be his pressing rather than his quality that made him undroppable.
We will need the workrate of Mount for this one. And Amorim will surely play Hojlund after He got a rest.Agree, I'd keep Garnacho benched and waiting for that 70 minute mark if we can keep it tight. Ole also bought Maguire and AWB on world record fee for their positions. Then there's Sancho. Don't think any would be bought by EtH or Amorim (all are not suitable for their systems).Ole > ETH.
Ole saw it years back and brought him in.

Probably. Maguire is still a good CB. But most likely Amorim would opt for a different CB profile if given the chance to spend a world record fee for CB..Feel like Maguire might also benefit from Amorims setup, which I didn’t think I would be saying after the last couple of seasons.
Ten Hag bought Antony instead of Kudus. I don't think he is a good judge of talent.
Amad has been brilliant, up there with Onana and Mazraoui as player of the season. Even if on some days the end result can be lacking, his movement, work rate and general play is still a boon to the team.
