Using Maz as the no10 when Bruno was unavailable was the worst in the way ETH treated Amad. Even if ETH doesn't rate Amad in that position(which is surprising), that was an opportunity to try our 'better' academy players. That's what pep, arteta and co. does very well.
That’s not completely true Arsenal and city fans both have had players they’ve highly rated who pep and Arteta just don’t play as much as they’d like. People thought Pep underplayed Foden for a few years, barely played Palmer (and look what happened there) and Arteta was roundly criticised for not playing Nwaneri more when Ødegaard was out injured (even though he is 17).
Regardless ETH was wrong to not utilise Amad

His ability to just steal the ball so cleanly is uncanny.
He accelerates and closes distance so quick, just at the right time, the oppo doesn`t realize he is in danger. Just sticks his foot in and takes the ball, thank you! Incredible useful feat for an attacker

Yeah his anticipation is great.

Probably my new favourite player. Will be a huge asset for us and hopefully a starter for many years.

Always bet on technical players! The ball is glued to his foot.

Diallo….a proper footballer.
First touch, aggression, anticipation, awareness, adaptability. Need more of them

Quite a few situations where things doesn’t instantly come off, but his overall aggression and determination turns it into a golden chance. Main man behind 3 of our goals yesterday.

Spot on

He’s probably one of our smallest players yet he never shirks a challenge or shits out of a one on one. Rashford and Bruno would never show any bollocks like this lad does.

False. Pep and Arteta dont use academy players when an opportunity is there.

Pep plays them when the team is playing well in games there is little to no pressure.

Arteta doesn't at all.. we saw how Arsenal fans were moaning about lack of game time for ESR and this season with Nwanyeri...

Any talks of his contract situation? I just hope we offer him wages which will keep him hungry. Those loan spells really did him the world of good and a solid example of how a loan in the lower leagues is great experience for developing your game.

And Goddamn me he is too fast for premier league defenders He just leaves a trail of dust each time

Nightmare to defend against.

Does he lack some pace?
He’s doing great, but I wondering if that might become more noticeable in the current role.
Looking at somebody like Quenda, he seems more explosive.
Amad seems to bring tenacity and skill to that area.

No? He's pretty quick.

His intensity is a breath of fresh air, has been missing down that right side for years.

He's far from the fastest in terms of his top speed but he's pretty explosive and, more importantly, seems to have great timing of his runs, both off and on the ball. But yeah, I don't think that wing-back is a perfect role for him long-term.

He's not Dan James but he's more than quick enough over short distances which is what really matters. Top end pace is pretty overrated unless you're specifically a teams looking to sit deep and endlessly hoof balls over the top to chase.

I watched some of Quenda’s highlights and it appeared his role was to press and counter into space from around the half way line. He did this affectively as he’s rapid and could get away from surrounding players quickly.

Amad has been doing similiar, but it has seemed like after the initial break he doesnt have the same explosiveness.

He's not as quick over long distances, but Amad is also not really a RWB either and is doing well just because he's such a naturally gifted footballer that he makes it work.

Yeah, this is my point.
I’m not being critical of Amad, he’s showing great effort and versatility.
But just looking forward to the potential of those wide roles. It seems like a very important part of the formation.
Strangly despite 343 seeming very far from the United way, the rapid breaks from the halfway line is part of the Fergie tradition with Giggs, Kanchelskis and Beckham.

Who said you need to be strong big and tough to press defenders to retrieve the ball? A similiar agile player on the other flank with keen eye to press and we have a perfect attacking system that making playing from the back difficult. Midfielders can move higher up, defenders can breath easy. Fantastic modern day player we need.

Its not all about formations. Its about the players mentality and instructions. They all matter more.

Lazy comparison but his profile reminds me of Valencia in the way he just gets the job done. It's so easy to like players like that

I'd say your comparison is working really fecking hard there tbf. They're not even remotely similar

there was a thread who's the biggest talent... Pellistri, garnacho or amad? i think it was obvious even back then. Amad all the way.

PS:Pellistri is gone, so i don't even count him any more, Garnacho needs a good mentor, Amad has the right attitude and is by far the most skilled and intelligent footballer out of the three, granted he still needs to learn

Playing in this role is part of why he has impressed so much. I dont understand the rush to move him higher up. Amads best qualities is that he gets stuck in, and is fantastic at progressing the ball, and playing at RWB gives him the chance to receive the ball in a deeper position out wide, with less pressure on him.

As long as he continues progressing, he may move to the AM role, but lets give him the chance to carry on this good form and build on his confidence.

I don't think Mazraoui would suit the RWB role in this iteration of the squad, as he isn't a powerful runner, and he is too good to not have in the side. So for now I like him in the RCB role, next to Amad.

We had this guy in the squad (cost us a fair bit of money also) and decided we need to spend about 160m on Sancho and Antony for the right wing

Now I know Amad was younger but feck me there’s no planning there what so ever

How have we let a situation arise where he is less than a month away from being able to negotiate a free transfer away from us?

We have a 1 year option.
According to Romano, the reason he didn't sign a new deal earlier was because of issues between his team and ETH. Negotiations are expected to go another now under Amorim.
He probably was unhappy about his playing time.

He keeps reminding me of Di Maria, especially with Benfica where he didn't seem to have a definite position. It was all about his mentality and individual skills. Maybe we shouldn't shoehorn him into one position but see him as a potentially high level Swiss army knife, I think that depending on the system he can be used as a CM, AM, winger or wide midfielder/attacking wingback. In any case to me he is important for the future and my favorite player in the team.

I was pulling my hair out under ETH as to why he didn't play Amad more. Now with a clearer structure in place and manager who looks like he knows how to use him he will blossom into one of our most important players already in this year.
