Bit of a waste to have him so deep so often, must be tempted to get him into one of the attacking roles, and though he tries he is going to struggle defensively against better teams as a wing back.

I feel a bit sorry for him tbh. I think he's another example where you can't trust a big club with your development.

The likes of Bellingham and co have shown you need to go to clubs like Dortmund where you're properly developed in the right position, and only then you move to a top club when you're established. Or else you just spend years getting fecked around.

He looks a way better fit in the front three than at wing back. Strange to put him there, but he still did well.

Best forward (attacking width) out there tonight, out of all the forward players including the strikers he's the one that will amass the most game-time under Amorim.

So clear that he belongs in one of the attacking positions, did very well regardless.

He needs to be one of the two in behind the striker, not Garnacho. Mistake by Amorim today.

Started the game very well for the first 10 minutes. After that he basically just did his defensive job and passed the ball backwards, up until that moment at the end where he almost made something happen. He's our most dangerous player around the opposition box so hopefully he'll get (and take) his chance at #10 soon.

I think Amorim was hoping we dominate which would mean Amad would be in their half, we didn't so he had to do a lot of defending, he did well and was excellent all game.

Can't play that deep again. Every time we get him the ball high up the pitch he looks dangerous. Has to be him and Bruno for the 10s.

Did really well. Still, needs to play as one of the three attacking players in this system. That's where he would shine ever more.

Further strengthen my thought that it should be Bruno and Amad behind the striker. Amad is wasted as wingback.

Best attacker we have and he's stuck playing wingback. Hope RA realizes this sooner rather than later.
Can't help to think he's a victim of his versatility. Why play Garnacho in the #10 and Amad out wide - surely because of the two, the latter can actually defend a bit?

Hard to find a place for him other than at Wing-back.

Having said that, looked uncomfortable today, but still made things hapen. He looks like he'll work hard at it, though, so I think he'll come good in the long run.

He's a bit too nice as well. This is where a good agent does wonders for a player - the likes of Raiola and co earned their money, by looking after their players in these situations. Kick up a fuss and force a move.

One of the 10s, obviously?

Amad's season is starting to remind me of Adnan's in 2013/14: The one shining light amid a whole lot of garbage.

I dunno if he's as good as he seems, or if he's just being made to look better because what's around him is substandard right now. However, I would like him to be getting closer to goal. Not sure his teammates are likelier to produce a decisive moment.

Looked great. Ironically, we need him further up the pitch as he's our best attacking player.

3 starts in a row, 4 goal involvements. 2 goals, 2 assists.

I want to see him as one of the 10s. His ability to shield the ball under pressure and turn his marker could be a huge asset when the ball is played through the lines there.

He should be playing in Bruno’s position.
But we all know he won’t.
Was best performer today after Onama.

Seems weird to criticise the manager for playing him at wing-back when he was both our best attacker and probably our best outfield player more generally from that wing-back position. That's typically a sign that playing him as a wing-back worked.

We could have played him further forward, but anyone we played at wing-back in his place was likely to offer less from that position. Particularly so from an attacking perspective if people wanted us to opt for the rather defensive approach of having two fullbacks in those wing-back positions.

Next time we need to try Mazraoui as a RWB with Amad further forward. But it was a very good game by Amad, and an assist

Because he's not physical enough to be up and down as wingback. THey showed his position's map, and majority of his time was spent on our half of the pitch. And even with those limited on opponent half, he's one of our best attacker. I know it's not always linear, but just imagine how much more he can create if he has more time attacking instead of defending.

I'd echo the sentiments of others in here - he should be playing as the #10 really. We'll need to find other players who are more suitable for the wing back roles.

I want to see him as one of the No.10s that Amorim is likely to set us up as, but it’s good to know he can competently play right wing-back.

Don't disagree that that might have been better for Amad's performance.

But then you have to play a different attacker at wingback instead, and I don't particularly see any of the other attackers doing as well from that position. Or you have to play a fullback there instead, in which case you're lining up quite defensively, especially for a game against a side like Ipswich.

Ultimately it's about what's best for the team. And there's not much benefit getting an improvement at #10 by playing Amad if you get a commensurate disimprovement at wing-back. And on paper we have a lot more options at #10 than at wing-back.
