Thought he played great after he lost the ball and gave liverpool a counter. Amorim needed to take him down a peg or 2 to let him know he's not the main character and you could see he played with far more maturity and was playing with his head up instead of head down looking for the glory.

I've never felt he needs to be sold or can't fit the system, the problem has been is his ego and thinking he's already top level with fans gassing him up calling for him to get the No 7 shirt and him having to hear ringing Viva Garnacho chants, it was bound to get in his head and have him believe he's the next CR7.

He can be a very good cog in the wheel effective system player if he works on his technical link up player and learn when to pick his moments to take chances, as he is not a great dribbler or finisher, so needs to focus on his movement which is one of his strengths which helps him find space and exploit gaps in defences

One of his first touches he lost possession cheaply and I thought it was going to be one of those performances from Alejandro, but he put his head down and put in a good shift for the time he was on the park. Played it simple, took the right options and of course set up Amad's goal with a lift footed cross into the box. No messing about, no tricks, just get the ball into a dangerous area.

What position was he brought on to fill because he seemed to play like an old fashioned left winger hugging the touchline rather than an inside 10 (which is probably why he had a decent impact)?

I wonder did he take it on himself to drift over the left to a position he was more comfortable with?

I don't recall them showing a replay of it, which is annoying as I really wanted to see what happened there. The lino flagged immediately, so it was over quickly. Annoying officiating, tbh.

The kid really needs to get his head straight. The most important part.

The officials have been super keen to feck us whenever possible this season.

This same linesman watched Amad get pulled by Robertson right in front of him for the entire 5 seconds and does not want to give a foul at all. It was only given as a foul after Amad made it super obvious that he was being pulled and left Oliver with no choice.

If he can spend the second half of the season adapting to the new system and get his G/A contribution past 20 then it will have been a worthwhile campaign.

Definitely has a part to play in the Amorim era, for now he should be limited to cameos and an odd start. Still super young and as long as he has the motivation to learn, he'll be great.
Also, the "10" position isn't just limited to playmakers. Amorim has used proper wingers there before, it's not about the skill, it's about the application. Garna defo has a future there.

Then again the cnut linesman on the other side also let Robertson turn Amad's shirt into a fecking sleeveless tee before calling a foul so it shouldn't be surprising.

This is a good point, he's definitely been a head down kind of dribbler, which often led to infuriating decision making after good work, so perhaps he's having to re-learn how to do it with better awareness of the game around him.

Whether by design or (sub conscious) choice, he's been taking on players less and it has resulted in us retaining the ball more and higher up the pitch. I'm not advocating for him to do that all game or lose all of his dribbling penetration but it's better this than whatever he was doing before e.g numerous take-ons a game without thought or craft.

As for the bolded, we'll have to agree to disagree. I think he's good at creating space to get away from a defender to possibly put in a cross, pass or do another move but I don't think he's great at all in actually 'beating' a player i.e getting past and clear.

He's still got a relentless attitude and if honed in the right way under a good manager, he can still improve loads of course.

One of the main reasons i value him is because i actually think he could replace one of the players that is actually leaving us.

Marcus Rashford.

I think they play quite similar and i think a peak Rashford is/was a valuable asset to the club/squad. Play as a LF, a RF, a bit selfish, a forward more than a creator etc.

Garnacho is also showing early signs of having Rashfords mentality which would be a big problem but for me at the age of 20 years old playing under a very strict manager should get him to change his mentality early or get him out the club.
