I think he's lightweight.

There are times when he's done the defender for outright pace but the defender is able to do enough with body strength to stop being beaten.

He is only 20 but he doesn't physically look any different to his U21 days to me. Don't think he's quick enough to be so light.

If you can get shrugged off the ball by a defender, then you haven't beaten them for pace. This is what I'm getting at about his pace not being good enough; he isn't fast enough to beat players, and he lacks the strength or technical ability to make up for it.

He's very fit, that's the one area in physical terms he excels, but other than that he's lacking in all areas physically.

I know this isn't your statement, but the idea that he's "plenty fast enough to beat his man" is obviously false, as he's one of the worst players in the league in terms of success rate when attempting to do just that.

Man Utd 4:1 Real Sociedad New
One of his better games id say, still has a lot of work to do when it comes to passing, shooting and especially dribbling. But he pressed like mad and tries to push us forward all the time.

Did well, encouraging to see him looking to pass and cross the ball. Like Hojlund he desperately needs a goal.

Thought he was decent again today.

And I disagree with Savage. He looks much better at R10 than L10.

He might lose the odd cut in and shoot opp, but he is forced to run much more directly forward with the ball on the right, rather than horizontally in field from the left.

Gets us up the pitch so quickly on turnovers. And he is picking up assists too.

Gradually he has been looking more and more assured on the ball since the Rangers match. He's still got a hell of a lot to do but he is contributing a lot more in play now.

I agree with you. It's like playing him on the right is forcing him to be more of a team player. He's looking good. As you say, he's really good on the counter; he runs well with the ball and creates space for himself. Imagine him with a little more power to his steps - just that little bit more top speed and he would be absolutely lethal.

There's a lot of wanting him to succeed in here, which I get, he's one of our youngsters and seems like a lovely guy, but he was anonymous today I thought.

He worked hard to his credit, but ruined most of the attacks he was involved in. From scuffing a shot instead of playing a 5 yard pass to Bruno who was wide open with the goal gaping, to passing straight to a Sociadad defender on a break when it was 3v3, to being put through by some Zirkzee brilliance and not shooting the one time it was the right decision to do so, and instead played a poor pass to Dorgu in a much worse position.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a better player going forward than he's showed for a while now, but his inability to know what's going on around him on the pitch will limit him to being inconsistent at best.

Much stronger and well rounded in that right position. Really enjoyed his game recently. Mixing up his actions in the final third too which is going to make him a nightmare to play against.

He was frustrating at times with a few of his passes, but showed a lot of energy and was definitely working hard for the team. Pressed well and played a lovely pass to Bruno for his hattrick goal.

I think that playing on the right will help him more in the long term to develop his game.

Playing on the right takes his stubborn habit away of cutting in and shoot all the time. He was much more selfless and pressed excellently.

I still find it so odd that people think he should be the finished product at 20. People forget how inconsistent Ronaldo was still in his 3rd season.

Last season he improved massively as soon as ETH moved him over to the right. Signs that the same might be happening again. It's not 100% as at the beginning of this season he was performing a little better on the left again, but it does seem that the right might be where he's more effective.

There was actually one time yesterday that he should have taken the shot instead of passing, but the rest of the time it's been a big improvement to see him playing for the team instead of being so selfish.

Leicester 0:3 Man Utd New
Delighted for him, funnily the better finish was the one ruled out.

If he can go on a scoring run like at the start of the season that will be helpful.

Good game again.

He needs to stay on the right in this system. On the left he's too much of a one trick pony. However on the right he can go outside or on the inside that's what allowed him to score that offside goal.

Hojlund should have played it earlier I think
I'm not sure. Højlund needs to get the opponents to commit one way or the other before deciding whether to pass or not. But I only saw one replay so maybe he was a fraction late.

Hojlund should have played it earlier I think

He could have played it very slightly sooner (one or two extra touches), although as previously mentioned the defenders took a while to commit and open up the space for Garnacho.

Even so, Garnacho is able to look along the defensive line, he shouldn't be straying offside there, it was really careless.

It's a shame too as he finished really well.

Glad he got the goal today. His confidence in his finishing clearly dropped off this season as he's had a lot of really bad luck, but even still... My fotmob says he's on 8 goals and 8 assists for the season. As long as he stays fit I'd imagine that'll go up to 10/10 despite a massive drought in the middle of the season. His ability to know where to be to make decisive moments is his truly elite talent and is what will take him really far in his career.

Goal will do him a lot of good, some encouraging signs though. He’s working harder, not being as selfish and growing into the role on the right hand side in this system.

still a bit too flashy, but granted we lose so much control due to some experts Eriksen or Dalot, he's done well to get his goals. Good instincts to get them both with a powerful strikes. let's keep this up.

Still lacks quality on the ball but he does work hard and has exceptional off the ball movement in orthodox wide positions. Less selfish on the right and seems to be more tactically proper for Amorim's needs for now.

I think he deserves credit.

There was obviously a section of our players that had become arrogant and complacent. A group that he was clearly a part of.

Where others have reacted to being called out/or dropped in recent times with public backchat and asking for new challenges, he has, eventually, taken it on the chin, buckled down and improved his work rate and defensive shift.

It would have been easy for him to kick up a fuss and act like he was above it, as others have done, but he hasn’t. He deserves credit for that and he did really well today.

That's the thing about him. He seems to need constant reminders not to let his ego get in the way, but at least he then gets his head down and works hard.

He had too much put on him too soon by a struggling team these last couple of seasons. He's a decent player.

I'm a fan of his so I can be bias but its kinda funny how both EtH and Amorim use him on the opposite side to force him to be less greedy.

You would normally setup to suit the players favourite side, but with Garnacho when he is on the LW he tends to be more selfish and go hunting for goal far more than he does on the RW.

Glad he (and Rasmus) got a goal tonight.

At some stage I would like to see him used as a wingback just for an experiment.

His work rate is becoming noteworthy.

Still the most talented on the pitch.

Ruben was never going to give up on him, which is starting to pay off.

Either stay and be a legend, or go with a massive profit.

Do you not think that it could be a club culture thing too? We are perhaps seeing it with Mainoo and the reported contract demands. I think egos and player power had been allowed to grow unchecked. We were giving youngsters too much too soon.

I think, the fact that he has turned around and applied himself is admirable, especially when you consider what others have done when faced with the same challenge.

17 G+A this season. He has exceeded last years tally of 15 in lesser games and minutes. There is improvement - maybe not as visible as team has been languishing.

Yup, Rashford went to Villa but Garnacho buckled down and worked and worked and has been working since.

Yup, so much for his attitude problem some on here claim he has.

All he has done is work his absolute hardest, when he was out of the team he knuckled down to get back in, now he is back in he is one of the first names on the team sheet along with Bruno.

Another great game from him yesterday and all of a sudden those bashing him for his lack of meaningful stats are having to change their approach.
