He seems to be yet another United player too bogged down by social media.
I know he’s received online criticism recently but he is still overwhelmingly supported.
As far as I’m aware there’s been absolutely no discontent from game going fans either.

I know online abuse is wrong but seriously if our players are incapable of shutting it out and repeatedly get bogged down by it then genuinely they should look to move clubs. It’s Manchester United… This is the scrutiny you’re under playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. Letting a very small number of online “supporters” alter the way you celebrate a goal is ridiculous.

Fans are too quick to get on the backs of young players, the amount of slagging off on this forum at times is just shocking. Nobody has any patience anymore.

The non-celebration was just attention seeking and has probably drawn more attention to the criticism. Bigger and better players than him have had to deal with criticism so he needs just get on with it.

He's been shit for a while so he should expect criticism and a spot-on the bench. One goal shouldn't change that.

It's easy to say this when you're not 20 years old and play for Manchester United. Some of the comments in here about him after the game were disgraceful to be fair. People were fully writing off his career because of the Chelsea game. The lad lost his head and tried too hard after that resulting in a bunch of bad decisions being made in an attempt to recover from his scuffed shot. Some of you are just so self destructive its unreal, you won't be happy until we've got absolutely nothing and then you'll have been 'right' about the players all along.

This isn’t online. A fan said it to his face. Disgrace.

The moral indignation of some of you lot is embarrassing. He was rightfully criticised after an all time shocker of a performance against Chelsea.

He fairly mocked the fan channel idiot in the week and he also rightfully feels unhappy that fans are disappointed with some of his performances.

Whether he celebrates his goal or not is up to him.

He's our starlet. We must champion him. I'd be looking to play him up top and dropping Rashford and Hojlund.

Would love to see Eriksen, Fernandes, Ugarte, Casemiro all play together with Garnacho and Amad up top.

We look so poor with Rashford & Hojlund in the team.

Happening to Højlund as well. Telling them to stay of social media is really not what we should take from this. Maybe all of us (and I include myself) need to think about what we write about these kids online.

That’s part of football unfortunately. You need to be able to handle criticism that may come your way. Just like when you do well you receive a lot of praise.

I remember when Shoretire played under Ole and a few people on here decided he was 'never going to make it' and all the usual shite. Turns out they didn't know his dad was a poster on here. Awkward for everyone involved.

Personally I don't think there's anything wrong in criticising the performance, but people can't stop there, they have to get personal and make insults also. Just say the lad played shit today and move on, calling people 'thick' doesn't help anyone.

Completely agree. Its these kids biggest dream to do well for United and a choir of people online screaming about them being trash and never making it at United isnt going to help them.
It used to be us against them. Now its us against our own.

I didn’t find anything said about him in here to be disgraceful to be honest. Point me to the direction where anything disgraceful or personally abusive was said and I’ll withdraw that comment. as for the bolded, I don’t even understand what that means. Do you understand what self destructive means? You sound unnecessarily emotional. It’s football and it’s an internet forum.

Oh the one who told him to have a better first touch and Pass. Not sure that qualifies as abuse. If anything it was very apt. Our coaches should be telling him the same thing.

One of the most exciting young players around.

The criticism of Goldbridge, ‘The United Stand’ and shite like that sums up the absolute state of modern football fandom.

Can we not just get behind our young lads who will make mistakes?

I don’t care if he celebrates or not. I just want him to learn to pass the ball. Not just about passing beemgen he can shoot but learning the art of passing.

But his direct running, intensity and seemingly end product are very good.

Love him but a bit misguided today with his celebration. Rashford did something similar last year with his hand gesture. The match going fans are not the people slagging him off online, they are all behind him.

It was a grown man who I’ve recently found out is an “influencer” who showed up before a midweek European match whilst a player was signing autographs and taking photos and decided to say what he said. The intention was abundantly clear and Garnacho was within his rights to respond how he did. Is he right to let it continue to get to him? Probably not, but he’s a 20 year old lad who has a lot of pressure on him - it’s unsurprising it has affected him.

The guy who slagged him off was a guy who was at a game.

Why is it part of football? What other club turns on their own academy products like we do?
Other clubs fans turn on their players all the time. It’s irrelevant that it’s an academy player. And you know just as well as I do it’s apart of football. You always get trolls, your on thousands a week so should be able to take the stick when your not doing great, obviously people take it to far and halve of what is said doesn’t need to be said.

I don’t get the criticism, he’s 20 years old FFS, our forwards aren’t exactly smashing it, and he is picking up the slack with contributions at least. We seem to have too many fans that jump on their backs at the slightest opportunity these days.

Is this because of that random TikTok knobhead before the PAOK game?
That and the 100k+ accounts on twitter crapping all over him. I felt quite bad for him, he shouldn't have been put in that situation in the first place. He should be a bench player. Shame the guy earning 300k+ is an absolute no show.

Let’s be honest abuse online is in the main due to people being cowardly and hiding behind a screen. Never have the guts to say what they do in person.

That said though, in this day and age, most players will be active themselves on social media and beyond. They will read these comments and it will take its toll.

He's the last target left for those looking for any reason to defend the performance of others. Especially now Antony isn't getting a look in, and they wouldn't dare target Amad because they know that won't fly right now.

Garnacho is the only one left. He's someone who was still a teenager a couple of weeks before the season begins, but unless his performances regularly eclipse by some distance one of the most experienced and senior players at the club, he will always be a target by those who think how he's plays gets the other guy out of hot water.

But this is the problem. This is why we are where we are as a club. Too much of the outside noise affects our players and it shouldn’t do. I’ll say it now we’ll never ever be a successful football club again if we continually have players (regardless of age) becoming so affected by these instances. Even in the situation you just described. How many fans there wanted his autograph/photos etc and showed him love yet it’s the one negative comment. If this is how you handle that sort of situation off the field then how do you handle setbacks and adversity on the pitch. How do you handle a player getting in your face , abusing you on the field? Well we’ve seen how this United team handle it …. They completely crumble. It’s almost as if there’s a connection.

@Gabriel Djemba-Bebe fair, comment withdrawn.

Don’t think it’s social media. Saw a video of some guy being an utter patronising knobhead to him when he was signing autographs.

I think criticism of players is fine. I think our fan base recently are very impatient with young players and underestimate many of them. Perfect example is when I was saying Mainoo should be starting for England and most the people on here thought it wouldn’t make a difference if it was him or Gallagher.

But at the same time many don’t know when good players are no longer good enough or no longer suitable.

If that’s genuine it’s a disgrace.

Some of you lot here I’m looking at too.
 Any chance somebody takes himself a little too seriously?

Yet most fans without red-tinted glasses would take all those players above him in their team. Maybe except for Dembele who is still better yet apparently a bit of tricky customer.

Adversity is part of life. There is just no point in trying to shield them from criticism. Obviously they should be trained in how to take it and yes, if that means ignoring some or most of it, thats fine but thinking that "we" just have to be reasonable because they are so young is crazy. Those guys earn millions from a young age - we don't give a shit about their personalities and how it might be influenced.

At some strange the negative online fans will need to support the players and get some enjoyment out of the game.

Pundits and WUM will always slag United off 24/7. But it doesn’t mean the supporters need to follow along.

The classic ‘it’s not me it’s them’

I see!

The Pundits go on about it because lot of United fans react as well as accept that as the truth and start mocking the players.

I’d love to see how social media would take to Ronaldo between the age of 18-21/22.

Garnacho this season has still been scoring and getting chances.

Since when does being on thousands a week mean people are allowed to give you shit at your job? He's 20 years old and has had to take more abuse than anyone on this forum has ever dealt with so you can't possibly say he should just 'take it'.

He's got every right to say he doesn't like it if he wants to, or are we all too soft to deal with him not being happy about us giving him shit? Maybe we should just take it and get on with it? It's a part of football after all.

He's 20.

Anyone who doesnt expect a 20 year old player to have some terrible games now and again is spoiled

Great goal today

And yet, despite having an underwhelming start to the season, he's still putting up better numbers than the aforementioned players. Imagine his stats when he actually hits form and reaches his peak.

This comparision isn't helping either.

Garnacho is not Ronaldo, he never will be, Ronaldo was a freak even at 18. Garnacho can never fill those boots, but we have a lot of fans, like most clubs, who hear this kind of comparison and believe the hype.

In the current City side Garnacho might end up being the backup winger, there's no shame if that's where he ends up for United. He's a good player who's still learning and has a place in the squad, justifiably.
