Have to agree.

On the plus side he adds a lot of thrust, he's dangerous and occupies defenders. He's also young so you hope for and expect improvement.

However, he takes a lot of shots and a lot of them don't even hit the target. That's difficult to accept when our centre forwards are crying out for service.

Also tonight reemphasized that Garnacho is a winger. He's happiest pulling out wide with a wingback or fullback inverting so he can get 1v1s in the space. That's the position he's most comfortable in and where his game flows most naturally. If Amorim really is the future I don't know where that leaves Garnacho long term.

Ole would have loved this kid though.
If you compare his average position to Amads (even when he’s at 10), Amad is actually wider, so I don’t really think it’s an issue that he pulls wide as long as the other 10 is pulled more centrally, which is what happens in reverse when it’s Bruno/Amad at 10. It worked fine last night because Eriksen did that and Amad provided the width from WB.

Garnacho is still one of our best (maybe best) at finding himself in shooting positions, so if he can fine tune his work in front of goal he’ll be very effective for us. He did also manage a couple of very nice crosses/passes into the box last night that his teammates did not capitalise on.

In short, I don’t think he’s struggling with the new system as much as everyone thinks.

Had a good game. Cant score or assist every game and he was a big threat down the left throughout - which you would think would please lots of people who complain that Dalot is our main attacker down the left. When Garnacho plays he takes over.

He should have scored from the Amad cutback and hit the post instead

Yeah its more that the system doesnt completely suit him than him playing poorly. You would think a #10 would need a bit more craft and subtlety than Garnacho has but that doesnt mean that he cant be picked there, go on a great run down the left wing and cross the ball for a striker to score. It just probably isnt what we're going to see from an Amorim #10 2 years down the line when he's signed a full team of players... Or maybe it will be because our track record is that our managers do better with the players they have when they come in than when they've had 2 or 3 seasons of buying their own players

Played well and could / should have scored

Hence this thread is quiet
Jesus if that’s the barometer for a good game then we’re truly fecked. He’s was okay - very least you’d expect from a winger of his purported talent.

Missed two good chances as he does more often than not and still made some poor decisions. I get that he’s 20 but I don’t see it with this kid.

I’ll be buzzing with £60 million.

If he manages to put it altogether and improves decision making he's going to be a very good player.

Although, there is no guarantee that will happen.

You won’t be getting 60 million and it won’t be fully invested into new signings (possibly half on Dorgu) but each to their own

20 years old, has shown in the past he has the quality, has the potential but has struggled to adapt to a new system in a poor team.

if we sell him for 60m it would be a massive error in the future i feel especially after spending 40m euro on Zirkzee for example.....

United linked with the likes of Tyler Dibling for 40-50m with his 2 goals make you realise 60m for Garnacho is derisory

Listened to a podcast yesterday that pointed out that Vini Jr joined Madrid and lacked productivity until he turned 24 which was the first time he scored double figures in goals.

Keep our players with potential. They are the future.

Garnacho is our best player , always dangerous even in his worst form . Been involved in 37 goals and assists at 20 years old .

The ultimate 'at least he tried something' player, while failing at everything.

He's one of our only direct players, so he's crucial to us. We need to get him on the ball more and then get others around him to give him options.

At the same time, he does need to make better choices on the ball. He's not the most intelligent of players.

What role was he playing tonight, because ostensibly he was in the left 10 but spent most of the night hugging the left wing, with Mazraoui or Dalot (who switched sodes again) cutting inside.

Is this an instruction from Amorim because he realises Garnacho can't play centrally, or does Garna just naturally drift over to where he's most comfortable?

He did ok tonight. Lots of hard work and great attitude as usual. I don't think he was as dangerous as people are saying. He did well in the first half when he beat Wilson I think with a nice bit of skill and set up Mazraoui who wasted the cross. Maybe the paucity of the game has scorched my memory but I can't remember much else from a creative attacking point of view?

Edit: just watched the highlights, he set up Mazraoui who got fouled on the edge of the box, and did the cut back to Collyer, which ended up at Martinez for the goal. So a few decent attacking moments. But they were few and far between in the entire game from everybody.

Did OK.. If we do end up keeping him, then I'd love to see him tried at left wingback.. He has a good engine, and is good playing by the touchline and getting crosses in.

He's literally one of veryyyyyyy few I actually like watching being on the ball. Positive comments from Amorim too each that he's improving and he's sounding like he's liking him more and more and adapting a little to meet him in the middle on positional preferences in places. I hope he stays.

With United there is always a handful of bigger problems which can be used as excuses.

Tonight both Garnacho and the Cafe’s current fave Amad struggled to get into the game.

The main reason IMO for that was due to Hojlund being completely useless all game, offering zero hold up play.

Hope he improves (positionally in that inside left role). There's a good player in there with potential. Needs to improve his close control and management in tight spaces and he'll be a very good player.

Conversely, if he doesn't want to work on that game, he can be a very good winger at another club that plays with out and out wingers.

His potential is so high, his relationship with Licha is very good - he just needs a rapid LWB and he'll get a lot more opportunity to come in and shoot/pass (who am I kidding, he will be shooting).
I hope we keep him, being in this Dorgu (or similar) and he can have a strong end to the season.

Garnacho has improved quite a lot over the last month even. Looks to be coming to grips with what Amorim requires of his forwards.

He needs to become a better finisher, but we would hugely regret selling him right now. Seems one of the few players in the squad that's capable of creating decent scoring opportunities.

Our most dangerous player down the left, like always when he actually plays. Will hopefully be a good combination with Dorgu down the left. Rather than being sold to fund him...

If we sell one of our tiny number of promising young players we deserve our mediocrity

Actually looks a lot less selfish since he's been linked with a move away.

Making some smart passes and cutbacks in areas where he'd have looked for a shot 95% of the time previously.

Brilliant second half. Should’ve had a hattrick of assists. Great crosses with his weaker foot going down the byline. Great link up with Bruno and Mainoo. Starting to look like how he started the season.

He’s only 20. Should not be sold in any circumstances.

Good performance but it was hardly world class. Everything this lad does seems to be overblown on here.

You seem to have a personal grudge against him, constantly talking him down. More like a WUM trying to talk down our player than an actual fan of the club.
I was being tongue in cheek, give it a rest

Happy for him that he had a decent game, He's been due one.

The whole get rid of him thing built very quickly given how productive he is. 15 games under a new manager is way too early to decide a talented 20 year old who is always a threat can't adapt.

Said after the last game that he couldn't fit in Amorim's system, and he was fantastic today. He played slightly narrower and was actually running OFF the striker into more central positions and looked much more of a threat because of it. Excellent performance.
