If you compare his average position to Amads (even when he’s at 10), Amad is actually wider, so I don’t really think it’s an issue that he pulls wide as long as the other 10 is pulled more centrally, which is what happens in reverse when it’s Bruno/Amad at 10. It worked fine last night because Eriksen did that and Amad provided the width from WB.Have to agree.
On the plus side he adds a lot of thrust, he's dangerous and occupies defenders. He's also young so you hope for and expect improvement.
However, he takes a lot of shots and a lot of them don't even hit the target. That's difficult to accept when our centre forwards are crying out for service.
Also tonight reemphasized that Garnacho is a winger. He's happiest pulling out wide with a wingback or fullback inverting so he can get 1v1s in the space. That's the position he's most comfortable in and where his game flows most naturally. If Amorim really is the future I don't know where that leaves Garnacho long term.
Ole would have loved this kid though.
Garnacho is still one of our best (maybe best) at finding himself in shooting positions, so if he can fine tune his work in front of goal he’ll be very effective for us. He did also manage a couple of very nice crosses/passes into the box last night that his teammates did not capitalise on.
In short, I don’t think he’s struggling with the new system as much as everyone thinks.
